Snitching is a complex situation because of the lack of thorough governing in our communities. People should understand that before the major drug operations during the 80’s and early 90’s in Amerikkka, we used to govern our own neighborhoods sans the old heads (or O.G.s, depending on locale) on the block. The men and women in that neighborhood were the “muscle” and handled situations accordingly, depending on the severity of the “crime”. For instance, if someone was wrongfully or innocently murdered at the hands of another, then the men in that neighborhood would approach the person who did it and handle the situation. The punishment could come via beat down, killed, or simply asked to leave and never to return to the hood again. A child that broke someone’s window would be handled by the women via a beatin’ from damn near every woman that lived on that block. And lastly, by the mother/father of that child once they were in the confides of their own home. Discussions between the child, parents, and the violated brought forth reciprocity. An abusive domestic situation between a man and woman was handled by both parties of men and women: the men, telling the man of his wrongful actions and his repricussions for puttin’ hands on a woman; the women, consoling and comforting the abused woman until the anger was nulled. None of these situations required a cop to be on the scene. Blacks/Latins of those communities knew that the law would inflict unfair punishment on those individuals, which in turn broke up the homes and neighborhoods.

Unfortunately, with the removal of the old heads/OG’s off the streets, the neighborhood is being goverened by youths who have no remorse for human life. Snitching is not only shunned, but thought of as vile even when the situation was wrongly handled by the assailent. Women and children are getting threatened without warrant and it’s destorying the community. I’m sure many of us have witnessed acts that were against the law, but often we understood that the “code” was what kept many of our OWN relatives and friends out of jail. I think the biggest problem that’s amidst in snitching is: when is it the right time to tell the police? The justice system deals unfair sentences to our people. But allowing violent acts to happen without “justice” is just as destructive.

If your family member, that you loved dearly, killed someone and you knew about it… would you tell? Or leave another family disheartened because someone in their family was killed by a member of yours?

Not sayin’ either is right or wrong, but simply puttin’ forth a situation that could easily sway your arguments in either direction.

Unfortunately, nothing is like it used to be anymore, and the old days will never come back.
You want those days to come back? Where people were mature, responsible, had common sense, character, balls, knew real “codes”, everybody on the block taught the youngins something, etc?

We can…..just turn off your TVs for good, throw away the playstations, listen to your elders, TURN OFF YOUR TVs and act like fuckin men.
