MIMS I’m sure is not that terrible, …ok he rode the souths coat tail to get in the door,…BUT, people use all different types of tactics to get in the game. Look at what 50 did, but he gets a pass? I’ll be the first one to jump off the bandwagon of hate MIMS is getting. He shoulda titled his Album “Now That I Got Your Ear”. ….Because a nig gotta do what a nig gotta do.
^^^@ cold…good title suggestion…I shit on MIMS constantly (no Life After Death Skit), but he’s actually a mediocre artist, not the second coming of SNAP, or some shit….nothing memorable, but outside of “this is why i’m hot”, nothing I’ve heard has been horrendously unlistenable, either….he’s a middle of the road artist at best, though….kinda like a NY version of Petey Pablo…
Mims’ strategy for getting people to listen to him is wack, but he’s actually alright. He’s far from horrible. What he’s doing is gonna work for him. I guess that’s the main thing.

^ I havnt really heard nothing else from the kid, but heard an interview and liked how he conducted himself, not ignorant, and articulate so we’ll see.

^ Why is it wack 7th letter 7, can you really blame an artist having ANY strategy. I mean look at the game, the politics of it all. At one point you could get in the game with mere skills alone, but we all know the days are long gone. Now the Dopest m.c’s are still on the block, the niggas with the gimmicks are in steady rotation. A nigga with a strategy you cant blame, its the industry who you should blame.
Its totally different from the last one, i loved the last one. Really dissapointed by this. Its not nearly a violent, no weapons. there is only about 18 rappers in it as well
true the industry is to blame, but people riding the south or using southern style to get their foot in or stay relevant is getting tiresome. That’s why I said its wack. But if thats how he wants to make a name for himself then all the power to him.

****Damn, there were weapons in the second one? BTW, the wackest, but most violent rap-themed video game had to be that Wu Tang joint

18, thats it?!? That’s nothing compared to the last one. I still play Fight for NY here and there. That one will be hard to top.

I know we used to get 4 player free for all on the old xbox, still do. Me and my boy played the new one a completed it in about 7 hours. u dont even get 4 player on it now. I really feel like writing a letter to someone about it!!!!
The last artist I remember breaking into the game having a significant effect and still standing, of straight up freestyles and skills. Who didnt use beef as a tool (n/h) is Fabolous, every other rapper within the past 5 years or so, has used some sort of gimmick. And even those dudes are fly by nights one hit wonders

Do what Lupe does. Be yourself and just rap your ass off…nhoc. The problem today though is these young artist don’t have that kind of talent like Lupe to drop a cd with no gimmicks. Half of these rappers out now shouldn’t even be allowed to hold a mic.
Good mornin fam…..what a great way to end the 1st quarter, with a shit load of albums……here’s hoping at least the Red and Prodigy end up being good…because the Young Buck already didn’t pass the test, and I have very low hopes for Mr. Make a Mil saying nothin

Lupe’s gimmick was to be so left field though. You can’t tell me that he doesn’t have a clear vision of how he wants to present himself
and Cold not a bad call on the Fabolous….but I gotta say the Clipse came out after Fab and they did pretty solid….and I mean what about Kanye? That’s a pretty beef free rise to power
^but G7, you still gotta remember its a business at the end of the day, so how much of your artistic creativness is one willing to sacrifice to have an impact

being yourself is a gimmick??? Everybody should have a clear vision of how they want to present themself. Doesn’t mean that it’s a gimmick.
Lupe - Co-signed by Kanye, and then indirectly Jay-z and Pharrell
Fab - Cosigned by Dj Clue…and Lil Mo?
Clipse- The Neptunes
and my thing with Lupe is that I wonder if how he’s presenting himself is how he actually is, I’m sure by now you’ve heard his much earlier work where he talks about poppin shots and what have you.
I like Lupe (nhjic) don’t get me wrong, but he was alot of hype with alot of lyrical substance, but in the end didn’t say a whole lot on some songs. That to me is pefectly fine I like a turn of phrase as much as a lyrical lesson, but I don’t want to oversell the kid

I hear you Cold. The game is fucked up. Well as long as I have my 90’s cd collection I’m straight. I have enough from that era to not have to worry about the bullshit that’s going on now.
the south dont count Conor,… there whole movement is one big gimmick, and not saying that talking about Coke is a gimmick, but when it becomes your whole selling point (no Pun), then you gotta question that. I never really listened to them so maybe I’m just singling them out, but still, I havnt heard anything from the remotely close to profound.

WHATS GOOD NAH RIGHT ?
HOW MANY TIMES IS PRODIGY GONNA DO THE WHOLE 11 MAC 11′S, 8 38′S AND SO ON AND SO ON ? I SWEAR IT FEELS LIKE HE SAYS THE SHIT IN EVERY SONG

haha. Prodigy is such a clown. Half the guns he talks about he can’t even lift up. I don’t even check for him anymore. The tuff guy act bothers me. I had HNIC in the whip yesterday, but that was him in 2000 though. Seven years later, same shit.

I AM JUST NOW LISTENING TO ROTM FOR THE FIRST TIME, AND ITS NOT THAT BAD ITS GOT SOME DECENT SONGS BUT DUDE IS A SHELL OF HIS FORMER SELF. HE IS DOING THE SAME SHIT AS HE HAS HIS WHOLE CAREER JUST NOT NEARLY AS GOOD
…u know… one of the things that make rap corny right now is niggas and coke rap. Heron & Meth is the big thing now. coke will always be coke, but how many times can niggas talk about the same drug. the same drinks, the same cars, the same bitches, the same planes (which most wack ass rappers dont know the diff. between a G4 & G550)… shit is just corny. rap about real shit. like “i used to live in the hood duckin bullets and shit, now i live in the burbs, fuckin Socker moms and shit”… or somethin…
plug I was really talking about the Clipse, but as far as the South, I can honestly say the only CD I’ve copped was a face joint,… downloading is a different subject, I gave T.I a listen, then I used the cd to scrape of my rejected inspection sticker.
now yall talkin like that prodigy aint fire?!?! yall need a diaper change today. that prodigy is hotter than that nas and jay put together. dude gave his fans just what they asked for. gun talk and slamin beats. I ask that hov gve me some slamin beats and he let me down with those london producers. nas… eh shid was ok. but as far as getting what you asked for from one of your favorite artist, i couldnt be more satisfied wit lmno p’s tape

PLUG YOUR OUT YOUR GOD DAMN MIND SERIOUSLY THIS ALBUM IS NOT SPECIAL. I WAS DISAPPOINTED BY KC BUT IT WAAAAAAAAY BETTER THAN ROTM AND HHID CRUSHES IT.
ROTM HAS LIKE 4 DECENT SONGS ON IT AND HE DEFINTELY DOESNT IMPRESS LYRICALLY, NO REWIND FACTOR, NOTHING SPECIAL DUDES BLAND AND BORING
I’ll say this….. if we truely count p’s tape as a mix tape, its the hottest mix tape I’ve ever heard, but I need another week to confirm this. as far as beats go, GGGGGGGOOOOOOTTTTTTT DAAAAAAAAAMMMMM!!!!! Alchemist put his soul *cues landlord* into them beats.

prodigy is just so corny. Absolutley nothing he says can be taken seriously. The way he talks, raps w/e you’d think this dude would have been in jail 30 times already. He may have a few parking tickets and thats about it. There’s nothing authentic about him. Even if Jay and Nas didn’t give you what you want to hear, P ain’t seeing none of those two lyrically. Not even close.
come on man. the prodigy is decent… beats are the saving grace.. prodigy’s rhymes while sometimes decent are also sometime incredibly unfocused “i got leann rimes passin me the weed”.
devin the dude’s album is on fire… hate on that album on your own peril

Wallace signs on to endorse affordable Marbury shoesAssociated Press
MOUNT PROSPECT, Ill. — Stephon Marbury started it. Now, Ben Wallace is joining the cause.
Wallace is lending his name to the Starbury Movement, endorsing an affordable line of sneakers and apparel started by the New York Knicks’ star. Wallace will begin wearing the Starbury II basketball shoe Thursday when the Chicago Bulls play his former team, the Detroit Pistons. And his own sneaker — Big Ben — is expected to hit the market in late August or the fall.
“Kids don’t really understand what it takes to go out and buy a pair of $300 pair of shoes,” Wallace said at a news conference on Tuesday. “We don’t understand the pressure we put on our parents when we’re growing up. This is one of the things where I think the parents will appreciate it a lot more than the kids right now because it eliminates so much stress from the parents. All parents want to see their kids have nice things.”
“Once parents and their kids begin to see that other pro athletes are getting down with this, then it just makes a world of difference.”
– Stephon Marbury
Launched a year ago, the Starbury line is expanding from 50 products to 200 — nearly all available for $14.98 or less at Steve & Barry’s University Sportswear. It includes a joggers shoe, skater shoe, casual shoe, gym shoe, woven shirts, jackets, jeans, T-shirts, shorts, hats and other accessories.
At a time when youngsters feel pressure to wear expensive brands of shoes and clothing and are even being killed for what’s on their feet, Marbury and Wallace are trying to provide an alternative.
“Once parents and their kids begin to see that other pro athletes are getting down with this, then it just makes a world of difference,” Marbury said in a phone interview. “It’s not just one person doing it. Other people are wearing the shoes. Other people are putting their feet inside of shoes that they’re saying are cheap.”
Marbury and Wallace are not paid to endorse the products. Instead, they earn royalties on sales.

Stephon Marbury, holding a Starbury One sneaker, has gotten the support of Bulls star Ben Wallace for his athletic apparel line.
Marbury and representatives from Steve & Barry’s started developing the line after discussing it over dinner about a year-and-a-half ago, while Wallace joined in about four months ago.
Marbury said adding the four-time defensive player of the year “gives the brand some credibility,” and he plans to get more players involved. He hopes that, in turn, will help spread the word to children and their parents — that there are good, cheaper alternatives. Alternatives he wishes were available when he was younger.
Growing up on Coney Island in Brooklyn, Marbury couldn’t afford the top brands. So he wore “everything. No specific shoe.”
For Wallace, it was a steady flow of hand-me-downs.
The 10th of 11 children and the youngest of eight boys, he grew up poor in White Hall, Ala. He knows he had shoes, but which brands? He couldn’t say.
“I had to wait in line,” said Wallace, who was wearing a White Sox cap, jeans, a striped short sleeve shirt and a pair of white Starbury low-top sneakers. “It’s tough at times because you see everybody else getting new shoes. You want to be a part of that crowd. Sometimes, you’re just not able.”
But with the Starbury line and the Big Ben sneaker coming out, there are more opportunities.
Although the shoes are inexpensive, Marbury and Wallace said they’re as durable as the more expensive brands.
“If you were to cut this in half, there’s absolutely no difference between this and the most expensive sneakers on the market,” Steve & Barry’s spokesman Howard Schacter said, holding a red, white and blue Starbury II. “This provides arch support, a reinforced heal. It really is the same deal, and what Ben and Steph are wearing on court is exactly the same shoe.”
Marbury said: “It’s not that they’re cheap; they’re just affordable. Now, as we begin to sign more players, kids won’t feel that burden.”
Wallace acknowledged he had doubts, but they went away once he tried a few pairs.
“They last just as long as any other pair,” he said. “I hope people do realize that regardless of how much you do pay for a pair of sneakers, eventually they are going to wear [out] somewhere.”

SMH @ mixed up fans
@ Conor… Can I keep it real wit’chu son? (c) Alchemist skit from first album
I have to agree with Plug and say that shit is lava. Why? *Novel*…
For me, albums are always about expectations. There are certain things that I expect from certain artists before I even know what’s going to be on the cd. Like most people, I usually try to read the artist interviews on different websites before the album drops so that I know what to expect. For instance… artists like Jay, Nas, Ghost, and a few other vets… they usually come up with themes for their album so you kinda have to prepare yourself for what you’re about to hear. For instance, most Jay interviews about Kingdom Come were very vague so the only thing I could use guage KC was the Black Album. KC is NOTHIN’ like BA in comparison so the first time I heard his singles when they dropped, I wasn’t too fond of them (no favorite student). But as I listened to the album and understood the cohesion between songs then I had more respect for it. But still don’t think it meets up to BA’s standards.
This leads me to ROTM. Artists like Prodigy, MOP, and Redman… you know EXACTLY what you’re gonna hear before the album drops. Therefore, all I wanted Prodigy to do was stick to the script and he did that… with the best beats I’ve heard since Lupe’s album, no bullshit. Lyrically, yeah, you’re EVER gonna hear those Infamous rhymes again. Times have changed and I knew once Murda Muzik dropped that I wasn’t gonna get the same ish. But, he stayed consistent in his flow and just turned up the violence and ridiculousness a notch for the fans. And backed by superior production. Talks of guns, drugs, disrespectin’ heffas… all of what I expected of Lmno P, and he lived up to that “standard”.

Hello Nah-rightians.. Went to the store yesterday, copped the Red Gone Wild..
Nice. Gotta admit I liked the funk doc bringing back some fun and weed smoke to the game..
What should I cop next?
Devin, ROTM, Sean Price..?? Shit is getting expensive, but Im trying to support the artists! Thanks. peace
The problem is that we still hold people like P, Meth, Red, Jay, Nas even Dre by the old standard. its not the same game anymore, im more about trickin ppl into believing ur shit is the business and hope enough people buy it before word spreads its not. there is no loyalty, fans arent as loyal to artist and artist arent as loyal to their fans

***Revisiting this (no houseguests from hell)….nastradamus was by far f Nas’ worst album (even though Nas is G.O.A.T., IMO), canibus fell off, at least his marketability did, and 50 and Ja became R&B sangas for he TRL crowd….the worst thing P did was make that god awful “Hey Luv” song, and that godder awfuller (lol) Blood Money album….

ROTM is a pretty good album. It has some good Alchemist beats. I agree that P has not grown as an artist. All the hype is the fact he got some dope beats on the album and moved up since Blood Money. HNIC I think is a doper album.
Red Gone Wild is a banger. Both Sooperman Luva’s have been played non-stop.

I put in a comment about Soopaman Luva passing EPMD’s Jane as the best series ever, and that I thought DMX’s Damien had a shot at the title back in the day, but the comment didn’t make it thru digital purgatory, AKA eskay’s server…..
>>***Revisiting this (no houseguests from hell)….nastradamus was by far Nas’ worst album
===
It was his weakest effort for sure, but I think Nastradamus is far from wack. The only real wack joint on it is the one with Ginuwine. But tracks like project window, nastradamus, life we chose, last words, family, come and get me, quiet niggas are all bangin’ imo. Not his best work, but still dope songs.
***maybe I need to re-listen to Nastradamus…first I need to get over the post traumatic stress that Ginuwine song caused me…I still cringe and get all twitchy and skittish (no crackhead) when the video comes on…
Kanye West’s management team, Hip-Hop Since 1978, has just signed an exclusive partnership with Bryant Management to co-represent Lil Wayne. Hip Hop Since 1978 is a New York based management/production firm run by Gee Roberson and Kyambo “Hip-Hop†Joshua. The two will now work in conjunction with Lil Wayne’s manager, Cortez Bryant, to further Wayne’s career in music, TV and film. “I’m excited to bring Hip-Hop Since 1978 onto the team,†says Bryant, who runs Young Money Entertainment. “I’m positive their combined experience, expertise and well-cultivated relationships will help us take Wayne’s career to the next level.†Kyambo Joshua also expressed his enthusiasm in a press release. “Obviously, we see in Wayne an incredible talent and an undeniable star quality,†Joshua states. “It’s an exciting time in his career and we’re thrilled to be on board.†Wayne’s highly anticipated album, Tha Carter 3, will be released this summer and will also feature production from Kanye West.
Taboo, of the Black Eyed Peas, was arrested on Tuesday morning near L.A. on suspicion of driving under the influence. According to the Associated Press, officers took the rapper into custody following a collision in the city of Industry, which is located about 20 miles east of L.A. Lt. Mark Relyea, of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, says that Taboo was cited for possession of marijuana and medication without a prescription, as well as DUI. He was released Tuesday evening, and is due back in court, although no date was disclosed

that’s the problem everybody has with that album. They’ll say Nastradmus is wack and then mention how wack the Ginuwine track is and that’s it, nothing else. “Nastradamus was wack. That one joint with Ginuwine…..” It was really the only garbage song on that disc. That song ruins people’s perception of the album.
I don’t wanna hear no other rappers complaining about Def Jam or Jay-Z promoting their artists, because I’ve seen and heard this nigga Redman more this month than I ever have in his whole career. I’ve even learned to respect him more. He was spittin that style that Ludacris spits way before it was cool to spit that way. I hope he goes Plat. I’ll be the first one to jump off the bandwagon of hate MIMS is getting. He shoulda titled his Album “Now That I Got Your Ear”. ….Because a nig gotta do what a nig gotta do.

At one point you could get in the game with mere skills alone, but we all know the days are long gone. Yeah but if you’re going to count the co-sign

So Fab jumping on any remix and clue tape he can doesn’t count, but rapping about Coke does? I’m not following now.
What about David Banner he pretty much just rose up off of music….no huge co signs, but I guess he did have Fliperachi on the first single…sooo
I’d say Buddens generally did what Fab did….but since he’s serving take out food at Chik -a- fil now, voided
Paull Wall or Slim Thug Or Chamillionaire? or have they been around to long, which is also possible, or do we count from when they blew up?

Mary Altaffer/AP Photo

“It’s an exciting time in his career and we’re thrilled to be on board.†Wayne’s highly anticipated album, Tha Carter 3, will be released this summer and will also feature production from Kanye West.

that’s the problem everybody has with that album.

I’ll be doing my share to help the big homie get a plaque.
