^ haha, nah Rich Boy is straight. come on, tell me Throw Some D’s isnt a better single than pretty much any other single from the south in a while. i dont think he’s a great rapper, but he’s got decent rhymes and some of his songs have hot beats. besides, he got Dre 3000 on the remix to his shit and a verse from Andre is never a bad thing lately.

whats good pockets. Yeah man, I know all these smack battles contain writtens, mook, lux, etc all memorize writtens in a battle. The fact is a battle where 2,000 or 5,000 etc is on the line (smack/fight club etc) is different from a battle where theres absolutely no money on the table. You gotta come prepared knowing you’ll have to rap for like 5 rounds each. There are few real freestylers that can come up with strictly off the top raps/punchlines for that amount of time. I know Jay can freestyle, but you gotta admit he isnt as punch line oriented as cass and mook etc. Again battle rap is different from freestyling. But I’d take cass, mook, and jones over jay in a battle (written or not, consisting of mostly punchlines).

COMMENTS: Never mind that El-P album. Black Milk’s Popular Demand is the rap album of the year so far. It’s like a modern day Stunts, Blunts and Hip-Hop, but with somewhat better rappin’ (admittedly no huge feat, but still). Even if you don’t normally mess around with a lot of J Dilla/Slim Village-style hip-hop, I’d recommend checking this out. If you do, then obviously this is a no brainer.

Most battle rappers don’t straight up freestyle. Mainly because it’s hard to come up with real good punchlines right on the spot. Plus you do have to come prepared, if you don’t go into a battle prepared(especially one thats got money up for grabs) then you’re most likely going to get murked in the battle.
