Dr. Donda West, mother and manager of hip-hop superstar Kanye West is set to release a book this spring entitled Raising Kanye.

A source close to Kanye has revealed to SOHH that Dr. West is finishing up a book to be released in the coming months. According to AOL Black Voices, the book will be co-written by best selling author Karen Hunter and is scheduled to hit shelves on May 15 on Simon and Shuster’s Pocket Books imprint.

The book will tell Dr. West’s story as a single mother and detail her struggles raising her would-be famous child in the African American community. A spokesperson for Simon and Shuster reportedly revealed that the book will also feature never before seen photos and anecdotes of both Kanye and Dr. West.

The former chairman of the English department at Chicago State University, Dr. West, who also worked as a teacher and attended night school to earn her doctorate, later resigned from her position to take on the responsibilities as Kanye’s manager. The book will reportedly also outline her experiences as the Louis Vuitton Don’s manager during his rise to fame.

I think recently it’s become cool to shit on the Blueprint, the highs on that Cd were ridiculous and it kicked off a pretty solid group of CD’s from Stillmatic, Ludacris’s Word of Mouf that winter, Clipse first Cd that summer and to The Fix later on the next year. The Fix being underrated despite the 5 mic rating

Btw, I made a comment yesterday in the midst of me raving about the G. Dep/Loon collabo album (I’m still a fan, eff yall)…

I was sayin’ that I peeped the movie “ATL” the other night for the first time (my late pass is on the desk). The movie didn’t suck as bad as I thought it would… Brooklyn was my favorite character (no ex-Jazz player)… reminded me of myself. But what I DIDN’T like (besides some of the sub-par acting) was the portrayal of darkskin people throughout the movie:

Jason Weaver: a slow-ass bamma, with gold fronts, who is too old to be in high school and finally graduates… only to open a shop, making gold fronts

The Twins: two gold diggin, ghetto thieves who had the negative influence on their friend

Big Boi: drug dealer

Rashad’s (T.I.) Uncle: lethargic, middle aged loser who thinks that he is owed somethin’ for takin’ care of family

New New’s father: a sellout; ashamed to claim his former residence while depising those who are raised in it

Esquire: a wanna-be; did whatever he needed to do to “fit in”, even if meant sacrificing his integrity

Buffy: sexual object; no speakin’ parts [Disclaimer: But on the realz, who gives a damn? I still envy the dude who played Esquire for that classic scene. COT DAMN!]

Now, on another note, all the people who did “better” for themselves happened to be of light and light-brown complexions:

T.I.: graduates school, creates his own cartoons for the daily paper

New New: graduates school; solidifies her “Blackness” by goin’ to Spelman (which many people do who choose HBCU’s)

Ant: gets his “act together”, stops sellin’ drugs and continues school

Brooklyn: becomes the manager of a restaurant

I know the movie is labeled “comedy”, but honestly, I didn’t laugh much during the movie. Though that can be based on personal preference, I was just pointing out some things that caught my attention. Maybe it was just bad casting by the casting director. Or perhaps those were the people who were available AND could fit in the budget. Either way, it’s not somethin’ that I could ignore.

^Honestly, I don’t think these other little dudes would exist. They set the bar during that era of what was acceptible and what wasn’t. Both had teams that were strong and very much prevalent in the street (i.e. TNT at the Rucker). Reckless talkin’/rhymin’ would have led to some very unfortunate boot-to-grill situations.

Btw, I made a comment yesterday in the midst of me raving about the G. Dep/Loon collabo album (Iâ€™m still a fan, eff yall)â€¦

I was sayinâ€™ that I peeped the movie â€œATLâ€ the other night for the first time (my late pass is on the desk). The movie didnâ€™t suck as bad as I thought it wouldâ€¦ Brooklyn was my favorite character (no ex-Jazz player)â€¦ reminded me of myself. But what I DIDNâ€™T like (besides some of the sub-par acting) was the portrayal of darkskin people throughout the movie:

Jason Weaver: a slow-ass bamma, with gold fronts, who is too old to be in high school and finally graduatesâ€¦ only to open a shop, making gold fronts

The Twins: two gold diggin, ghetto thieves who had the negative influence on their friend

Big Boi: drug dealer

Rashadâ€™s (T.I.) Uncle: lethargic, middle aged loser who thinks that he is owed somethinâ€™ for takinâ€™ care of family

New Newâ€™s father: a sellout; ashamed to claim his former residence while depising those who are raised in it

Esquire: a wanna-be; did whatever he needed to do to â€œfit inâ€, even if meant sacrificing his integrity

Buffy: sexual object; no speakinâ€™ parts [Disclaimer: But on the realz, who gives a damn? I still envy the dude who played Esquire for that classic scene. COT DAMN!]

Now, on another note, all the people who did â€œbetterâ€ for themselves happened to be of light and light-brown complexions:

T.I.: graduates school, creates his own cartoons for the daily paper

New New: graduates school; solidifies her â€œBlacknessâ€ by goinâ€™ to Spelman (which many people do who choose HBCUâ€™s)

Ant: gets his â€œact togetherâ€, stops sellinâ€™ drugs and continues school

Brooklyn: becomes the manager of a restaurant

I know the movie is labeled â€œcomedyâ€, but honestly, I didnâ€™t laugh much during the movie. Though that can be based on personal preference, I was just pointing out some things that caught my attention. Maybe it was just bad casting by the casting director. Or perhaps those were the people who were available AND could fit in the budget. Either way, itâ€™s not somethinâ€™ that I could ignore.

^Honestly, I donâ€™t think these other little dudes would exist. They set the bar during that era of what was acceptible and what wasnâ€™t. Both had teams that were strong and very much prevalent in the street (i.e. TNT at the Rucker). Reckless talkinâ€™/rhyminâ€™ would have led to some very unfortunate boot-to-grill situations.

^^Yep, a lot of artists slipped in the game when 2pac and Big were killed that didn’t even deserve a chance. Unlike the Death Row and Bad Boy era, there are no real dominant rap labels or crews setting the standards any more. The measurement for talent has really dropped over the years, and I personally blame No Limit for part of the demise….
