The Jiggaman was all smiles recently when the team announced that its new arena in Brooklyn, Jay-Z’s hometown, would be called the Barclays Center, after UK-based Barclays Bank, which is paying $400 million over 20 years for naming rights. But just after the January 18 announcement, local politicians and journalists quickly rang the alarm on the deal, criticizing the team and its majority owner, Bruce Ratner, for taking money from a bank whose founding family profited from its ownership of slaves in the 18th century and was involved in controversial dealings with the South African government in the 1980s.

***I used to be a lot more actively militant than I am now…back in junior high/high school (I still refuse to stand during the National Anthem), I had a lot of disdain for the so-called founding fathers and their hypocrasy in starting a free society on the backs of slaves….shit, even Lincoln was willing to compromise and allow for the continuation of slavery, to end the Civil War…I still harbor some resentment, but instead of letting shit like that eat away at me inside, I just use it as a reminder of how two faced people can be, especially when it serves their interests….if you choose not to deal with corporations that dealt with slavery and aparteid, what’s to stop you from taking it a step further, and not dealing with companies that have some history in the Jim Crow Era, or who have been subject to discrimination claims at some point? Sometimes, it’s just not practical or constructive to rage against the machine at full speed…..

If these people were doing dirt since back then and all the way up to the 1980’s (so, about 200 years), there’s a good chance they haven’t changed their opinion in the last 15-20 years. You can’t accept something just cause your favorite rapper is doing it. You have to be man enough and have enough balls to say “that shit is wrong….I’m not supporting it even if it don’t get me nowhere”.
I repeat, not everything is ok. People should be smart enough to point out what isn’t and be strong enough to not accept it.
Just my opinion.

yeah i use to hate those big ass gaps, but back in the day i use to just go work out grab something to eat and plot on some things around the yard, i was in the programming office like everyday with some scheme to do what i wanted on the campus, and using their dough, if they would say no to one idea the next day i had two more, i had 1 job for 1 week when i was in school and stayed straight from a cash standpoint, promotions is the way of the world

But PBS was NO different. They acted like tavis smiley was supposed to be the black Charlie rose. But they give him a horrible looking set and only gave him 30 minutes. The shows were different but the overall quality was pathetic and Low budget.
PBS’s way of saying we tried to help a nigger but he didnt want to stay. Shit, You gave him dirty ass shoes packaged in a new shoe box.
