Nas @ Nokia Theater 12/22

Video courtesy of Grandgood

Me and my boy caught Nas’s early performance at Nokia Theater in Times Square last night and it was off the scale. The highlight of the performance was easily when The Little Homey brought out Cormega to perform Affirmative Action, effectively squashing their long running beef. Foxy also came out and did her verse, but unfortunately AZ was nowhere to be seen.

I have to give it up to Nasir though, he went well beyond the call of duty and kept it dirty with songs like “Doo Rags” and “No Idea’s Original.” Me and my boy were speculating on the way to the show that he’d either bring out Jay to do “Black Republicans,” or Game to do “Hustlers,” but our high was blown early when those were the first two songs he did, without either guest star. It was all good though, the little guy tore it down in spectacular fashion and gave New York the show it wanted, but definitely didn’t expect to see.

nas mad at az cause he’s too good. personally i prefer mega but nas dont see him as enough of a treat to continue beefing with him. he coulda made up with prodigy but now that p is back at it thats out of the window. oh yeah nas must not think jay-z is a very good rapper anymore or he wouldnt have made black republican.

bringing a rapper you used to have beef with on stage is the new black. i predict game bringing out 50 at a show and then turning around after the song and scratching 50 and pulling his hair while uncontrollably crying.

How funny is it that Foxy really thinks she’s relevant to hip hop anymore. I mean, last I checked she dropped 2 albums in the last 10 years. The first went platinum (thanks to JAY Z writing 90% of the album and you can check the credits on that) and the second tanked. One jigga blew up and didn’t have time to write for her anymore, shit was a rap for her! Damn, Trina’s had a better career that Foxy!

that shit was ill. Mega need to put out another album. AZ shoulda been there tho, but it would be crazy if the Firm got back together and did a show in NYC.

  19. G7 Says:

wow! he performed doo rags and no ideas original. he rarely does those songs. Surprised he didn’t fuck those up. He must have been sober…lol.
That sucks that AZ couldn’t make it. From what I read at sohh it was confirmed that he would be there. Maybe he’ll make the show tonight in Philly.

that skeleton pacing around on the stage with them is jokes!!

  20. elprezzo Says:

..maybe AZ’s schedule just couldnt match up with the show tonite…i doubt he was purposely kept off the show cause why would you bring back mega and foxy, but not bring back AZ? Thats the main dude his fans wanna see him reconnect with…

I was at the show on the 20th at BB Kings and AZ didn’t show to that either. This cat fell off the map, aint like he can afford to be doing that either. This guy esco put on one hell of a show, one of the best I’ve ever seen in my life. I seen Hov in June at the Reasonable Doubt joint and Esco was more personable last night than Jay was. Esco went through the whole catalog, from Live at the BBQ, to NY State of Mind, to I Gave You Power, Nas is Like, Rewind, this cat was off the hook. Props to Esco for bringin NY back

  24. Chris Howell Says:

And Mega comin out to do Affirmative might be one of the illest moments I have ever witnessed. Historic night for NY hip hop

^ LOL. It depends which Foxy voice you’re talking about. She’s had like 3 of them. Her normal voice, her Lil’ Kim voice(see Chyna Doll) and sometimes she raps with that ugly deep voice she does.

^That’s that bullshit. I hope he got a good reason for not being able to make it because that seriously is a crab move if he vouched not to show up. Maybe Nas didn’t call him (which I don’t see why not because Mega’s beef with Nas was well-known and deep rooted). In the last few months, every time a journalist would ask AZ about another Nas collabo he always says that all Nas has to do is hit ‘em up. But anyway, I’ll way until further input before I put him on blast. Either way, go cop that Format album…

On another note, I was amped as fuck like I was actually there when watchin’ Mega walk out on stage. With that being said, I hope Jeezy makes one of my Xmas wishes come true by killin’ himself.

^That’s a good look. That song they did together on SD was one of my favorite from the album. Nas needs to consolidate that album into one, on some BP 2.1 type ish. I’m still gonna give it another listen though before I can say that for sure though.

  52. miss l Says:

Its good to hear that the show was hot cause I’ve seen Nas a shit load of times and hes on my worse performers list. Glad he sobered up and realized if ur gonna do a damn concert then do the damn thing!

Cormega and Nas is a good look but why is AZ missin in action? Actually if Nas and AZ do a few collabs together again then thats > than them gettin on stage and performin old tracks so hopefully thats in the works. It might be wishful thinkin but I think its inevitable. If Nas can record tracks with Jay and perform with Mega then his ass needs to give fans a few new Nas AZ collabs or atleast one new collab.

Mick Boogie mentioned the AZ Nas mixtape hes doing and that AZ was recording new material for it so maybe Nas will give Mick Boogoe a new verse too..I know thats not quite a collab but its better than nothing for the time being.

Nobodysmiling.com : There were a few urban myths going around stating you guys used to help write Joe’s rhymes, any truth to that?

Triple Seis : Yeah it was Pun and I; Cuban didn’t write for him. Till this day there’s got to be someone writing for him, it’s probably Rick Ross right now.

  55. D. Billz Says:

I don’t see how people don’t put 2 and 2 together. I told cats on here a LONG time ago that Pun was pennin’ his joints and before that it was King Sun. Don’t get me wrong, Don Cartagena is still one of the greatest slept on albums of all time. But truth is truth. There’s no way your skills should diminish over time. Actually, the opposite should happen. And I know MADD people on here saw that YouTube clip of him takin’ forever just to put together those wack ass bars that he thought had steam on ‘em.

^This is an interesting theory. But being that Nas has helped 50 (before the Shady deal) and Bravehearts (to no avail) I’m gonna go with AZ’s ego gettin’ in the way. Mainly because the homie (Duepayers) said that AZ was on some sadidy ish not too long ago during a radio interview *lol*. Though I still defended AZ after hearing about it, this missed opportunity with Nas could possibly solidify why my peoples don’t really get down wit’ dude. Plus I don’t see why Nas would make amends with Mega and not AZ. Now Nature, on the other hand…

  59. Foekist Says:

If anything, I respect joey’s creativity and style changes. He’s changed his style like 5 or 6 times. his gimmick is to blend into whatever the style is right now to remain somewhat relevant.

  60. D. Billz Says:

Joey kinda came with it on the biggie duets jump off though. Quit hating, Joey better than a lot of these fools out here.

^What up Foe? But come on fam, the evidence is too blatant. Every since Joe has been writing for himself (which I’ll say started with the JOSE album), his skills have been no way up to par with his previous work. This has nothin’ to do with the commercial success he’s had with his previous joints (like the ones with Ashanti and R. Kelly). I’m talkin’ about pure, quality lyrcism that made him hot BEFORE the commercial success. See, what people fail to understand is that crossover success doesn’t mean there’s a lack of talent and/or lyricism. Jay has successfully crossed over since Vol. 1 and no one ever questioned his lyrical ability since then. Sure, everybody has their picks about which are the best albums verse for verse. But even listening to KC people are still sayin’, “yo, money is still potent with the pen”.

But Joe? Nah. There’s nothin’ Joe has dropped in the last 3 years (or more) that had any replay value. Or even first play for that matter. When Pun died, so did his career. But now that he got his “down south” flow down pat he shouldn’t have any worries: it’s a lot easier to write a verse when you repeat the same words over and over again and stretch out a syllable for a whole bar.

  61. D. Billz Says:

    I do.

^ he only does it cuz he knows Jay cant measure up to NaS if he had 3 lifetimes to try. but we joke about Jay too, i mean he’s old and irrelevant now, its them stiff knees (c) Jimmy. eskay is just mad cuz he hates NaS, but knows he’s one of the most important figures in NY rap, so he knows he has to post shit about him but he makes up names to make him seem unimportant. eskay and them just do it to piss people off, like Sour sayin NaS lost at his own concert after he got 3/4 of the Firm there to tear it down.
