The Snowman Has A Meltdown

Peep how Monie Love riles Jeezy up during this interview. He started out alright, questioning Wayne’s comments towards Jay, but then he lets Monie get under his skin and starts talking reckless about Nas. Come on Jeezy, you’re technically not even a rapper, and you’ve said it yourself. Now you getting all emotional and questioning a legend’s street cred like that has something to do with hip hop?

"You got it misconstrued, all fucked up"

  16. Engineer Says:

Hip hop is social commentary…..essentially anyway….Why do you have to have street cred in order to make commentary on what you see on a daily basis..So does that mean that thugs, gangstas, drug dealer should be the only one’s that rap? That’s ridiculous.

  17. 911 Says:

what the fuck does that have to do with anything, much less hip hop being dead?

    It is the reason its dying……{that fake Suge Knight shit}

  18. Mac Brown Says:

Jeezy represents the mentality of todays youth………even though this nigga is my age if not slightly older.

He doesn’t quite know the full history of hip hop. Believes only in the modern concept of what sells is hot. Doesn’t appreciate it as an artform at all.

Nas is a legend, one of the best who ever did it and an easy candidate for GOAT. I get on the Little Homey, cuz well, he’s the Little Homey. but when niggas like Jeezy and the those two nobodys from Atlanta radio start opening thier mouths, I gotta speak up. these niggas can’t crack Nas’s blunt, much less question his album title or his intentions.

Really what the fuck Africa as a whole hasnt developed the way it should have with all its natural resources readily available for them to profit from as a whole continent. There is many reasons that its still 3rd world, Slavery, Diamond trade and shit. But for people like Russell Simmons to align himself with Jews as opposed to Africans is completely disgusting B. Someone mentioned earlier why these rich fucks like Russell dont build a fucking Palace of Marble in Botswana or some shit. I will tell you why because he would be looking at the people he has chosen not to help, everyday in the fucking eye. I am in no way saying Black Americans are reasponsible in helping Africans or whatever but I am saying is if you align yourself with DeBeers and they are Jews, you are now thereby in slaving your very own people to dig up a diamond that they get 15$ for and he ends up selling for 5,000$. What part of the game is that?

Hip-Hop isn’t Dead, it just gave birth to new sub-sets..and through these new genres Hip-Hop Lives. We have to face the fact, that what we called Hip-Hop back in the early-to-mid eighties, is never coming back. Hip-Hop changed from 85 to 95…from Big Daddy Kane & LL to Nas & Big…Hip-Hop has always been, and always will be a reflection of the times, in the black community. Did Raekwon not rap about crack/cocaine on the purple tape…did Big and Jigga not do the same thing…so why are we surprised at today’s artist

While we at was hip hop dead when he came out with that pop shit with ginuwine? Was hip hop dead when ghost put out that pop weak trash “tush” with missy elliot? Hell no. So now hip hop is dead??

While im at it let me school your ass on y hip hop is dead up “north” U see all the ny releases come from niggaz in they late thirties…dudes that was around when I was a teenager. Where is the next generation at? Ill tell u cause ny so full of egos that nobody aint put nobody else on cause they got greedy for the limelight and DIDNT WANT TO PASS THE TORCH.
    Niggaz still want to rule

The SOuth? all the hot cats in they mid 20’s. So dont get pissed if the south seems a little agitated. We just tired of the implication that hip hop died cause we got the light. Yeah lil wayne comments were not needed but niggaz wanna talk like he 3-4 years in the game dissin a vet and that aint the case…

Wayne been around since 95-96, the same motherfuckin time as jayz he was younger, wrote his own shit, and was still hot despite the fact he didnt curse. He went platinum in a group and solo so I think wayne got more than enough notches on his belt to talk

  105. B.Payton Says:

lol Jeezy is looooosin it lol

  106. Blue Says:

Southern rappers in general are real sensitive when people say “hip hop is dead” simply because the South is having the most commercial success at the moment. I wouldn’t expect anything less from Jeezy or D4L or any other artist out of the South that can get a deal and eat right now.

Nas says hip hop is dead because he believes it just like many other people who grew up when you could actually turn on the radio and hear what the essence of it was all about. Even though I myself was born and raised in the ‘A’ and can remember quite vividly when most anything coming out of the South was pretty much ignored by the rest of the rap world, I agree with Nas. The hip hop that I grew up on and loved is dead is far as I’m concerned.

However, I am happy that cats who have walked the same school halls as I and lived in some of the most fucked up conditions of anywhere in the country are getting rich, even though the music is subpar. The fact is hip hop has been raped and taken advantage of by many who couldn’t care less about the culture or the people affected by it.

But what is kind of ironic to me is that some of the same people who complain about hip hop’s demise could have actually done something about it (and still can). But I think they were too busy spending that money and fucking with those dumb, money hungry broads so be worried about it.

    Hip-hop is a culture.

The ‘NEW’ Era of Hip-hop is grindin’ hustlin… and main focus is makin that cake, that paper at the end of the day.

The ‘OLD’ Era of Hip-hop was for the love, no doubt they wanted to make money, but it wasn’t just with the intention of makein paper.

So the OLD lookin’ to the NEW, feel like it’s lost its flavor, and cats aint doin hip-hop to contribute to it as a whole, they just rapein it for what its worth… and then sayin fuk da game. So the OLD cats that made it what it is today, feelin like the new cats is doin it dirty.

I THINK Jeezy was just pointing out that a Nas has rapped about the same shit he does but the difference is he lived it Nas didn’t. So of course Jeezy gonna talk about it 100x more than Nas cause thats his life. And that was relevant to the interview cause Monie said some shit like theres not the same diversity in hip hop or whatever.

Someone mentioned the 4 elements of “hip hop” but c’mon graffiti and breakin being a big part of hip hip died ALONG time ago.But unlike the east coast the south has always kept dance a part of the culture. And I’m surprised more ppl don’t appreciate the positive aspects of how the music has changed instead of only the negative. Now ppl who are part of hip hop and are artist have many other options to express themselves and they can get paid doing it so like the music its changed but its far from dead.

Lyrical content is what really matters to me. Scarface is more of a hood, spiritual, wordsmith. Phonte is more of a b-boy,everyday regular, lyrical cat. Both them dudes got skills but have different styles. To me you really can’t compare the two. Phonte is more on a Mos,Kweli,Common type of vibe. Face is on a TuPac,Ice Cube(old not new),Kool G Rap vibe. Both are good at what they do but, to me you can’t compare the two. They styles are totally different.

  244. NoMamesBuey Says:

I haven’t heard Nas’ whole ouevre. But I love Illmatic & have bumped it (pause) when it came out & ever since.

I always thought Nas “journalistic” in his approach of describing life in the Queensbridge projects. He would talk about the good & bad aspects of various things with a “fair & balanced perspective”, no Faux News.

On Illmatic he definitely was NEVER on some “I’m the kingpin, I sell the most, I eff the most hoes” steez ala current TI.

On “One Love” he alludes to selling crack & that the “jakes will never stop it” but then another track he notes “the streets have me stressed somethin terrible”. And he’s not claiming to be a kingpin, just a “regular Joe dealer” here.

Even if Nas did shift into a “faux kingpin steez” on some album (can anyone confirm this?) it wasn’t on Illmatic, the Nas album which influenced other rappers deeply

Jeezy is lame for “going at” Nas. Nas should “ether” this cat.

What I don’t get is that there are so many crack/thug/gansta rappers that ARE ACTUALLY GOOD RAPPERS whether studio/regular joe dealer/kingpin ganstas in real life, that how is a Jizzy big? This “steez” has been done to death & done very well by Kool G Rap, Jay-Z, Big Pun, BIG, Scarface, etc. How is there any tolerance or fan base for a no-talent rapper that is the 1001th gansta/crack rapper?

Mannnnn, who cares? Them niggas suck. Let ‘em have their fun. That’s like havin’ the gifted and talented kids go to the basketball court and disrupt the retarded kids basketball game. Pointless. They’re harmless. Lets just get our practice squad, go to the rec center, and work on our game. Lets get a board and have a vote on all the old niggas. They can be coaches and managers but allowin’ them to run the court only slows the game up. The other dudes who show up late for practice and got lackluster skills but think they nice… tell them they gotta get benched and improve their game, or go play with the retards (”now make it rain”). We need to take it back to the basics: 2-1-2, triangle offense, screens, back door passes. Fuck them sloppy ass crossovers just because you think it looks nice. Work on your handles and speed combined and watch how quickly you go around the defenders. Lets get these cheerleadin’ ass niggas (”yes” men) up outta here. It’s nothin’ wrong with being a fan, but dawg, even Jordan had terrible games. Lets acknowledge these guys faults from the break and add some constructive criticism. Most importantly, STICK TO THE GAME THAT WE PLAY BEST. Tryin’ to play everyone else’s game will only lead to failure because we weren’t built for that. Defense wins games and right now everybody - from the midget who wanna play center and the Jolly Green Giant runnin’ point - tryin’ to control the game. Play your position. With the being said, lets go out there and make it happen…

Jeezy (to me) has no skills but I can relate to his music. And these two cats get exposure out the ass. Where as LB can’t even get in rotation on the radio or BET. I love the South but it’s more than one type of music that going on down here. That’s why I hate when uptop cats critize our shit. Because they really don’t know about our underground sceen. I could name 10 emcees from the Carolinas alone who would lyrical murder NY top rappers any day of the weak. 311. Two-Times Says:

Jeezy used to be Lil Jay………

  312. NoMamesBuey Says:

    Nerod,

    Agree again.

This is part of a larger trend I see in the current era.

2 types of music fans - connoisseur v radio listener

    1. radio listener (RL) - finds their music from BET, MTV, clear channel radio, dance clubs. The media has consolidated into a few companies. I guess big media they find it profitable to push a few artists over & over on their playlists. RL doesn’t want to hear from their homie that LB has a great new album, they just want what’s “hot” & popular.

RL listens to LESS VARIETY of music than say 5 yrs ago

    2. connoisseur - gave up on BET & clearchannel radio since “90% of them dudes suck yo” or “get that bullshit Britney Spears & Yung Jizzzy shit outta here mayne”. So connoisseur discovers music via friends, review sites like hiphopsite.com, sites like okayplayer, or blogs like nahright or BC. Connoisseur trades mp3 archive discs with close friends & thus has a near infinite backlog of albums cosigned by friends to choose from. Connoisseur discovers old classic shiz he “slept on” or was too young to check for originally. Connoisseur realizes there’s ill talent in the underground he’d been sleeping on like Foreign Exchange, Akir, & Apathy. Connoisseur realizes there’s many other ill genres like Afrobeat or Artists such as Ozomatli to check for. The near infinite backlog becomes infinite

Connoisseur listens to MUCH MORE VARIETY of music than say 5 yrs ago

    The problem is that
    1. connoisseur fans are a tiny part of the market, at least 95% of people are RL fans
    2. connoisseurs have a “justice” notion (I’m guilty here too) & feel compelled to endlessly point out to RLs how easily shits on

IMHO he future of rap & other popular music will depend on the RL/connoisseur split. Every percentage point added to the connoisseur segment means more quality artists can do their music as “their job” in order to supply the connoisseur market

  316. hoodtalk.org Says:

All True Story, Trenton Is a Small City and pumped out a lot of Real Hustlers who made real money in the 80’s, And Jay was one, That Valencia Chick, Real, she looks like Beyonce’s older sister (Jay-z’s thing for light skin women), He Actually attended Trenton Central High School for a while, while he lived there with his Mom & Grandmom, etc, etc, etc, and one things is for sure, and anyone who grew up with that cat during that time from Trenton will tell anybody, he had Big Money THEN. Also back in the day most rappers left the reality of their environment off wax. Niggas was gettin busy back in the day too, but they just didn’t brag about it like today.

Now the only time you hear that type of variety is a “special mix.” Hip Hop is fucked up.

In fairness to Jeezy, Nas says on Money Over Bullshit that he’ll stick a gun barrel up a certain Capo’s head, and goes on to say that “you don’t live what you rap.” Haha, as if you do, Nas. But Jeezy, he just got pissed and said some stupid shit. As for hip-hop being dead, this year has seen 2 quality releases from Ghostface, critically acclaimed albums from Lupe, The roots, and now Nas- I have to admit I wasn’t really feeling any of them besides More Fish, but it’s far from dead. Plus there’s a lot of quality stuff coming out of the South and not just loud-beats-and-crack-talk, has anyone heard Trae’s album or Z-Ro’s?

Wayne, Jeezy, TI, they are not thinking of the upliftment of the culture… they’re thinking about caking up for themselves only. They’re all scared of Hov’s ability to eat into their sales, and of Nas exposing them as “Not Hip Hop”. Like I said, just doin’ your little rap thing is not being Hip Hop.

  553. G7 Says:

^I just don’t understand what their problem is. They think the whole thing is about the south. If they would open their ears and eyes they would see that Nas and Jay have been addressing the wack music in the north so what is their problem? And only the south seems to be complaining about the whole thing. I don’t hear anybody in the west coast whining.

Jeezy pretty much summed it up though. He compared Jay retiring and coming back to a hustler that did a bid and came back trying to hustle, and the new cats on the block ain’t havin it. Rap is filled with street-type cats, so they view this in the same light as they would a similar situation on the street.

Word, that’s worth remembering. I can see it from Tip and Snowman.

Not sure how much Wayne hustled though? Is he really coming with the mind of a street dude, assessing the comp, or is he coming with the mind of an 8 year old batty-bwoy?

I think he did, he may not have moved bricks, but if his daddy has been Baby for dang near his whole life, chances are he’s done a little this and that. Wayne seems to have a drug problem, so I’d blame the other 50% of his ridiculous comments on that.

And its funny how all of these rappers talk about how shit was in the 80’s, but I rarely hear the negative aspects of how the 80’s fucked things up. True Story, The 80’s spawned the Birth of The Snitch…where its cool to Be tough, talk shit, commit crimes, play the game, get locked up and snitch because you got caught. There was nothing COOL about the 80’s at all! Yea we had the best run for HIP-HOP in the 80’s but everything else was fucked up. If its 2007 and your still talking about cooking crack and movein weight (and to these cats, anything between 2-48 ounces is weight…yawn)…Hip-Hop “IS” Dead. The 80’s are over.

The record labels are just as much at fault for this debockle as well. Once the money began overshadowing the artistic integrity of the music, everything went down hill from there. Artists like Jeezy are just a product of the changing hip hop environment.

Personally, one thing rap teaches AGAINST is gratitude. Everything is cars, money, airplanes, etc., teaching us that happiness is found in material things. What I’ve recently found is stopping to appreciate the fact that ya mom is still here, and that you have A CAR, and that I can keep the heat on (especially in cold azz Detroit) is where happiness is. Then more will then be attracted to you.

  575. Foekist Says:

  576. Jamz Says:

The most phucked up thing about hip hop in the new millenium is that it teaches the youth nothing valuable anymore. I mean groups like PE, Brand Nubian, X Clan, Stetsasonic, Poor Righteous Teachers, etc. atleast gave the listeners a positive choice if they didn’t want to listen to NWA, Ice T or The 2 Live Crew. Nowadays, the majority of rap uses sensationalism type tactics glorify crime and encouraging naive folks to spend money on useless material items.

frank lee has a point…if you can handle nigga, then you might as well go head and say nigger. dont be offended just cuz the “er” for of the word is used. “er” or “a” they all mean the same thing. the word nigger does not need to be redefined, its roots need to be re-examined. if it makes you mad good. eliminate all forms of the word. get mad about, black people as a race are so gullable to that forgive and forget shit. “if we use it then it will loose its power”. get the fuck outta here! you gotta know where you come from to know where you goin… just like slavery, just like being placed in projects. most black people dont even know the history of their own people. they only know what was designed for us to know. do you think if people in the hood knew why they were in the hood, they would want to make it out and stop glorifying the shit. the government put its “niggers” and projects, and they love it now, and they are gonna pass that love down generations to come. it keeps them niggers right where they wanted them…hows that make you feel? nigga

    Cee-Lo:
Well I woke up this mornin with the same frustration from situations like these
Got a call about some work from one of them temporary agencies
No high school diploma or any college degrees
    I can’t enlist but they’ll draft me if there’s a war overseas
    Oh please
Of course I can slice some OZs
But see I’m one of those aspirin MCs
And uh bills are due so at times I’m doubtful and everyone disagrees
But I’d rather struggle on my feet than to live on my knees
So my uniform tight workin all night at Mickey D’s
Got about 90 dollars and some change after the government
    get they fees
These minimum wages ain’t enough to feed my babies
Purposely these limitations on black folks opportunities
So I quit cuz I’m tired of being one of those overworked
    underpaid employees
Stop carin at all went on and did a few small burglaries
It seems like my face done turned into forgotten memories
And I ain’t gettin away with nothing because I know he always sees
But see right now I need to see how I can get this here dope sold
I done stuffed in my pocket as many rocks as it can hold
They gon get high so I’ma get my money even though it’s freezin cold
Now how many times you done heard this story told?
Believe it or not, it’s some very intelligent junkies
But dependencies is eatin away at they souls like disease
Anyone can turn into somebody who covets and envies
Unequal economics can easily make you some enemies
And the crime rate never drops to the cops ride around in threes
I knew he would have killed me if I did anything but freeze
They found the rest of the dope in some nearby shrubberies
In a dimlit room being questioned by these authorities
And they gave me some time in correctional facilities
And now my woman’s gotta take on a man’s responsibilities

I’LL TAKE IT EVEN FURTHER AND SAY ITS THE BEST IN YEARS I REALLY CAN’T FIND A BAD SONG ON THE ALBUM. NOT ONE FILLER TRACK I CAN’T PINPOINT THE WORST SONG ( CAUSE THERE ARE NONE ) AND ITS A BATTLE FOR BEST SONG ON THE ALBUM THERES SO MANY SOON TO BE CLASSICS ON IT

^ Better than food and liquor?

    =======

haven’t heard HHID yet. I can hold off til the 19th. Food and Liquor will be hard to top, but it has it skippable moments. A lot of people thought Nas was gonna come half ass on this album but i guess he’s proving people wrong. A lot of people still need to catch on to food and liquor though. Hopefully with time that will happen.

Smh @ Bol saying Anthony Hamilton = “budget Gerald Levert” thats why I can’t take him seriously at all but I agree with him that the production didn’t sound like the best money could buy and Nas sounded like he was going on out this time with production so as far as production I did expect more

I wanna hear that “NY Stomp” track Nas was hyping up a month ago. I know its not on the album, but hopefully the retail comes with a few bonus tracks. How could he hype up a track and then not put it out?!?! Unless he changed the title of the song??

The clispe were on the miss jones show this morning

^I almost turned that shit on too. did u listen to the interview? I already heard them on another radio show calling wayne a “faggot” so I’m sure it was more of the same he kisses men talk

Off topic I’m curious how many ppl think of Clipse/Pharell as southern artists? I’m from the south and never have. Never considered VA “the south” I know its below the Mason Dixon line but still..personally I always thought of them as VA artists or maybe east coast artists but not southern artists. (A friend whos from ny was tryin to argue with me that the clipse are southern rappers)
