As far as Wayne goes…to me he is a good rapper/emcee. His flow gets better all the time. His comment on Jay was a little sideways but like you said he probably took offense to Jay’s lyrics on Trouble. Between Tha Carter duece, Dedication deuce, that shit with his fake dad and Weezyana, he’s dropped more good shit recently than pretty much anyone else I can think of while Jay has hung out with Bill Gates, gone on some bono-type save the world shit, forgot to market half the talent on his label, mailed in some quarter-assed guest spots, and released a borderline terrible album, probably the worst of his career. I know fucking Rolling Stone gave it three and half out of four, but I think they gave KFed one and a half, so that’s a bit skewed.

I think the reason why Weezy is getting so much hype right now is that he personifies a certain swagger that young people feel they need to try to elevate themselves and make their mark in the world.

I’m 23 and getting myself into law school from a poor background and I feel like the shit that Weezy spits speaks to me in a way that motivates me to go all out. That’s what music is all about to me.

The new Jeezy is dope too, but Weezy comes honest about feeling proud of things that others might be ashamed of. He knows how to rep and he’s carrying the torch for a lot of people of color from the City, that’s why I fuck with Weezy and all my people fuck with Weezy.

I’m sure successful people who love hip hop fuck with Jay for the same reason: he speaks to your struggle and epitomizes the shit you’re proud of.

I won’t even try to argue that Weezy is a better rapper than Jay. Rap is art and art is subjective.

But Weezy definitely connects with the youth more than Hov right now. I don’t think that’s much of a stretch.

So in 10 years, it might not be a stretch to put Wayne up there with the greats.

To make an analogy which combines my favorite two pastimes: Weezy is Mayweather and Jay is De La Hoya.

Actually that’s pretty accurate as far as the Jay Z and DLH. They both make a ton of money. They’re the standard bearers of crossover appeal and taking their games to a status unknown before them. But there was always something about them that made people hate. Jay revolutionized the use of the self in hip hop, imo. His subject matter was his life and he made his listeners believe that the aspects of his persona that he glorified were things that the listener could appropriate into their lives. In other words, the success of his career, and the nonchalant way he spoke of it, became much more than lines and verses–they became attitude, oeurve, an entire way of looking at life.

I mean, I come from a crowded ass American City. One of the basic facts about living in a City is that you’re always around a lot of people who are out for money. You have to figure out, what can do to get ahead, where’s my niche, how can I hustle harder. And the appeal of Jay is he provides the soundtrack to that kind of successful thinking, at least that’s the way I see it.

So I would submit that Jay’s claim to being the best ever is very tied to making the most money ever.

Now don’t take this the wrong way, it’s just a critique for you. When it comes to news, I think you are biased to the point where it gets annoying. Any news regarding (for example, The Game) you ridicule and laugh at. On the other hand, any news regarding Jay-Z you praise. As a matter of fact, I have not seen you say one negative thing about Jigga.

This post (Weezy’s comments against Jay-Z) is of course, no different. You dismiss Weezy’s comments right away only because he’s going against your hero. You fail to consider that his comments may be accurate.

Jay-Z is *NOT* as good as L’il Wayne *right now*. Frankly I don’t care who the best MC really is… I’m not a stan of any rapper. I just like quality lyricism. And when I evaluate a track, I completely disregard who it’s by. If it’s dope it’s dope. That being said, Jay-Z is NOT as good as L’il Wayne (right now), from a completely unbiased perspective.

You have to think, when L’il Wayne works so hard on his raps, it’s annoying when Jay-Z comes back to make an ignorant comment like “I’m hiphop’s saviour/so after this flow you might owe me favour.” Especially when he’s part of the reason why hiphop may NEED a saviour, since he puts lames like Jeezy on and shits on wicked lyricists like Method Man and The Roots.

Kingdom Come was trash. And you didn’t say one little thing about that, despite the numerous bad reviews scattered across the net.

Weezy VS. Jay-Z? The track “Amen” on that recent Lilweezyana mixtape is better than any track on Kingdom Come. If you don’t see that, you’re either def, stupid, or both. When such tracks exist, you actually wonder why Weezy makes a comment like that? I got a question for you eskay - “do you listen to music or do you just skim through it?” lol

Weezy can’t convince me he’s better than Jay when we ALL know Kingdom Come is Jay on cruise control and still a much better album than 90% of what’s out on radio, this the general consensus has agreed upon. Not to mention if we are to count record sales, Jay has the highest selling record, gotten the most promo, and exposure..so how isn’t it Jay’s house still?

@Pagoda: While I will agree Weezy has a connection with the youth right now I believe Jay has more ears as far as the number of youth. Ppl keep saying the young ones are looking at Jay like he’s old. If memory serves me right, ‘Hard Knock Life’ was popular in ‘98 when many of today’s 18 year olds were about 9 or 10. Not too far behind for them not to have Jay as one of their fans.

There are alot of posts on here and I dont have time to read them all.
Wayne is kinda feelin himself but shit he is entitled to his opinion just like everyone else.

I DO THINK, however that Jay should have waited to put that album out until he showed his complete potential in his position at Def Jam. We all know Jay kan sell big numbers but what about everyone else signed to Def Jam that hasnt come out yet? Jay could put out an album any day of the fuckin week and sell out of the stores and Im not hatin but he should be giving “his artists” a chance rite now.

Weezy is right, I agree with him all the way. I do believe that he is the BEST RAPPER ALIVE!!! I like Jay and all, but he not really fuckin’ with Weezy like that especially on Kingdom Come (that album is so wack!!).
