And I think what everyone is labeling as hypocrisy is just what some would call being HUMAN. How one-dimensional do you think these people are? I shit on Tupac a lot because even though he attempted to convey a positive message through SOME of his songs and interviews, he was most remembered for his unneccessary antics of thuggery that wasn’t even him. He allowed some mogo who sign his checks to be the puppet master of his life. I respect the artists who choose to exemplify decency as a artist even though they might be caught up in other things in their life outside of the studio. Who woulda known John Forte was smugglin’ bricks in his trunk based on “Stayin’ Alive”? Nobody. Who woulda known Loon was knockin’ niggas out in Harlem and was made a Crip in Cali based on “How You Want That”? Nobody. Who would known Mos Def be madd late on his child support payments and had kids by various women? Nobody. I respect these guys as artists but I’m not surprised if they want to talk about other things in their raps because they’re human Black men just like the rest of us. But what does make me mad is when artists continue to exploit the negative things they have done/seen and not insert any realism into their craft.

For the most part, I’m anticipating Sai’s release and I think he’s done an excellent job puttin’ out music that has a message. But I’m not surprised if he also releases music that has talks of gun play and other street related material. For most people on the East, we’re used to this and can respect it because it adds to the not-so-serious side of an artist which creates a balance. I think more people would be less upset if they understood the mentality of the artists they listen to (which is why I would never buy anything Dipset related) rather then judge them for doing songs that aren’t consistent with the “theme”.

right click My Computer, go to Properties > Advanced > Performance. On the advance tab go to the Virtual Memory section and click ‘Change” increase the size there to like 2 and 1/2 times your physical RAM.

^I understand that too. But sometimes I wonder if we just happened to be smarter or more aware during our hip hop era as teens opposed to the shorties that are coming up now. Wu, BCC, M.O.P., Onyx and a few others all talked about some wild shit but to my knowledge I never knew anyone taking what they said literally. I understand the responsibility lies within the artist, but just how much should one person bear? I guess a fair rebuttal would be that we had a balance of music on the radio. You and I both grew up on Ghost, Rae, Jay and a few others with coke talk in their rhymes. But we took it for what it was worth and respected their artistry and lyrical ability. We have a balance of music out there for kids if they really wanted to listen to it, but most don’t care about that. Kanye is probably the biggest sellin’ artist when it comes to “positive” rap music. Common, Talib, AZ, Little Brother, and the Roots, barely make it to 80K their first week. But who’s to blame? You know it’s good music… I know it’s good music… but if the kids aren’t buyin’ it, then what else is there to chalk it up to besides lack of interest? As much as I can’t stand Jim, he’s what’s hot right now. And we know who’s buyin’/downloadin’ it.
