I’m over happy this mixtape’s been upped, Saigon is the shit. Can’t wait for his album, but I guess its just perfectionism holding up his project. I mean, beside Saigiddy, Papoose and Grafh, who is really holding lyricism down without an album? I dunno man….

Pap is boring to me. His voice is annoying. I feel like his whole style is a gimmick, the gimmick being “look at me i’m lyrical. and I’m thugging for real” meanwhile this dude is not involved in any crazy thug activity. PLUS he doesn’t have any message to his music. Fuck punchlines. what are you actually saying?
Sai on the other hand has a message, dude has character (so I’m not BORED like i feel when i listen to Pap) and his music has variety. Doesn’t require serious concentration to get it and when u do get it, it’s something sensible.

I for one, thnk it’s a bit dumb to say any of these relatively new MC’s can touch the likes of Jigga or, dare I say it, Nas. I just think we have to look to these new artists, cos even though I have no problem with Jay being 36 and still rapping, its not really relevant to the younger ones. I’m mid-twenties myself, and while I enjoy the grown man rhetoric, I enjoy hearing these younger, hungrier artists. The likes of Saigon are the future, given the chance.
And yeah, I’m probably one of those so-called ‘new faces’ on here. Been reading these comment boards for weeks and finally decided to hit one up myself, so one love to all that have come before me (n/h). Whaddup ‘Old Heads’? LOL

I have at least 30 mixtapes with a Papoose track. Around half of those are full length Papoose mixtapes, and he has some crazy dope songs spread across all those discs. Combine all the good and you get at least 40 great songs. Not just okay, but great. Which is more than I can say for Jay-Z first four albums.
Must Listen Papoose:
Salute The Dream (Game Dis)
Stuttering
Across The Tracks
I Run These Streets
Love Is A Battlefield (seriously)
Faces Of Death
Alphabetical Slaughter
That’s just off the top of my head, you really need to get on the torrents and get every single mixtape. Jive gave him 1.5 million upfront, they have big plans for him, you need to get the heads up and expose your friends so you can take credit.

^I feel what you’re sayin’, but it seems to me that rap is the only genre of music where the older artists aren’t respected or the history isn’t researched. Young rock fans can give you the run-down on Led Zeplin, Queen, Rolling Stones, Kiss, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, etc. even though they are a part of the new generation. Even reggae/dancehall fans respect the forefathers like Shabba, Patra, Chaka Demus, Levington, Marley, Mad Cobra, etc. and wouldn’t think twice about pickin’ up one of their albums. It seems rap is the only genre where you’re “too old” to do music instead of just growin’ with the music. I believe that as long as the artist remains relevant and continues to make good music, then why should he have to “retire”? Why can’t we just grow with the music? Of course I’m going to enjoy Jay or Nas’ music more because I was a fan of theirs’ when their careers began and realized at a young age that they made music that was timeless when you break down the catalog. But they’ve both taken chances and have matured with the times. And I bet if Rakim, BDK, Poor Righteous Teachers, EPMD, Slick Rick, Doug E. Fresh, Roxanne, Kid N Play, etc. had a Back In The Day concert, you could bet money that people like Jay, Nas, Ghost, Rae, Snoop, Cube, etc. would be there because they appreciate what those artists have done for THEM. But it seems as the genertions come and go, the pioneers are forgot about.

According to your rebuttle, 15 full length Pap mixtapes. Let’s say each one has 20 songs on it. That’s 300 songs. If out of those, 40 songs are “great” than that means that means that 2/15 Papoose songs are great. That sounds like a pretty weak average to me.

Don’t get me wrong, I grew up with Pac, B.I.G., Nas, Wu-Tang, Jay….I’m always going to check for these artists, even if they’re still putting out material at 60…I just love hearing new artists trying to break through. As time goes by artists change, and I have learned to accept that. I’m never going to get ‘Reasonable Doubt’ Jay back, we’re never gonna hear ‘Illmatic’ again, so to hear that next up and comer spitting it fresh like it is, you gotta keep your ear to the new generation. All I’m saying is that for as much reliance as we place upon the ‘Old Heads’, we gotta enjoy watching the ‘New Heads’ come up, and not try and knock them down before they get anywhere.

Feng shui is the ancient Chinese practice of placement and arrangement of space which is claimed to achieve harmony with the environment. Skeptics consider it to be nothing but superstition or a primitive form of environmental psychology.
Feng shui is a discrete Chinese belief system involving a mix of geographical, religious, philosophical, mathematical, aesthetic, and astrological ideas.[1] It literally means “wind (feng) and water (shui)”, and is not a decorating style, but a discipline with guidelines compatible with many different decorating styles.
The source of the term is purported to come from the Burial Book written by Guo Pu(éƒç’ž) in the Jin Dynasty(晉æœ). Qi (æ°£) is reputedly dispersed when it rides the wind and stops when it meets water. The ancients collected qi so that it did not dissipate, and directed it so that it was retained. For this reason this art is called Feng Shui.
For a place to have “good feng shui” is for it to be in harmony with nature, and to have “bad feng shui” is to be incongruous with nature. Although people aren’t usually described as having good or bad feng shui themselves,[1] believers in feng shui say that certain people by force of personality or visual appearance are able to add or subtract from the feng shui of their surroundings.

^ *ennnnnnnnt* Wrong again. Anybody, from regular fans to rappers, will tell you that their 2nd album is the best. It’s one of the hardest albums of all time. Yeah, Jada’s “All For the Love” is a classic, especially that ill ass beat. But you can’t go song for song with Money, Power and Respect and We Are The Streets and say MP&R was a better album. No fuckin’ way. In retrospect, Diddy snuck in some of his persona on that album which ultimately fucked up the Lox’s whole vibe. The title track is still a banger though…

^ You aint never lied. After the 2nd album, I stopped givin’ a damn. Just like what someone was tellin’ me the other day, he style of music wasn’t meant to be mainstream. He wasn’t meant to be on some M.O.P. type shit and just release ill ass street music that never got old. Instead, DJ was suprised that ID&HIH was well-received and dropped the 2nd joint in the same year. That first RR compilation, was probably the peak. After What Yall Really Want and Party Up, I stopped givin’ a fuck.
December 3rd, 2006 at 3:14 pm
Billz, I think the comparison isn’t valid with those rock artists you mentioned and hip-hop artists.
Reason 1: The rock artists that the kids respect today are not trying to be relevant in today’s scene. Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, & Jimi Hendrix are not trying to pay the bills by releasing a new mixtape this month. Even artists like Bob Dylan who are putting out new albums, they aren’t trying to appeal to the mainstream.
Reason 2: The artists you mention have way more talent and impact in their respective genre than the hip-hop artists you mentioned. To compare EPMD to Pink Floyd is ridiculous.
Reason 3: Today’s hip-hop youth do respect the great elders just like other genres, contrary to what you say. Every kid in every hood can tell you about 2Pac, Biggie, and Easy-E & NWA. They are hip-hop’s equivalent to The Beatles. Slick Rick is equal to rock&roll’s The Byrds. Recognize that name? Yeah, none of the white kids do either. And that is actually a very generous comparison for Slick Rick.

never could hear what other ppl hear when they listen to pap. his whole style is wack to me. from his 9 shirts, to the few interviews i heard him in tryin to be deep and soundin the like an idiot, to his songs. he sounds like someone who doesnt even listen to the track before he gets on it. no flow, voice, style nada!
for ppl who think pap gets “deep” saigon does too he just doesnt sound wack while doing it.

you’re saying the diplomats aren’t relevant to hip hop right now? the fact that you actually used the word “frickin†in a sentence means that you’ve already lost and that you’re fuckin faggot ass music snob. eat it bitch, dipset all day.
^I can see this guy is one of these ol’ Carl Thomas “so emotional” ass niggas… or wiggers. I aint a music snob, Jim Jones is fun to listen to in the club and is the most unintentionally (and sometimes intentional, i.e. We Fly High remix video) artists that I’ve ever seen. But we’re talkin’ about music that stays relevant over time. If you wanna argue who’s keepin’ it poppin’ right now then yeah it’s the Dips. But just like the Unit, the Dips 15 minutes is slowly on a decline.

Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, & Jimi Hendrix are not trying to pay the bills by releasing a new mixtape this month. Even artists like Bob Dylan who are putting out new albums, they aren’t trying to appeal to the mainstream.
^ Of course they not tryin’ to pay the bills. For one, whites outnumber Blacks in this country by a WHOOOOLE lot so they made a fortune the first time they dropped. I know how bad you’d like to exclude race, but we can’t. It has and always will be a factor in music, sales, etc. Point blank period. Even still, the new generation white kids will buy old music. Black kids don’t do that when pertaining to rap music.
Reason 2: The artists you mention have way more talent and impact in their respective genre than the hip-hop artists you mentioned. To compare EPMD to Pink Floyd is ridiculous.
^Of course you would choose EPMD. Why not Wu-Tang? They are world renowned and have an extensive catalog. I’m not comparing one artists’ “greatness” to another based on music ability because it’s too many factors invovled musically (i.e. live bands vs. beat machines). But to say that the forefathers of rap music relevance isn’t as important to the forefathers of rock is ridiculous.
^Oh word? Which hoods are you in? You’re tellin’ me that I can walk up to some lil’ Dipshit induced kid on the street and ask him to tell what were the most popular NWA songs and he could tell me? GTFOH! Slick Rick and The Byrds? And then say it’s a generous camparison. Smh.

West Coast died with 2Pac. Since then it really has been just listening to mainstream. But lately with Hyphy and Xzibit, Game, & Snoop all dropping very good, very West Coast albums, so close that is all you are hearing right now. It is a welcome change, haven’t been this much excitement for the West Coast in a long while. But I doubt it will last, Jay-Z pretty much wiped Game, Snoop, & Pac’s Life off the radar with those 700k units.
Hell, even I have been crusin’ with that Jay-Z “Oh My God” song. Very top down music. I hope they never release that as a single. I want it only for myself.
The Bay Area has always had its local heroes, but I don’t think anybody outside of the Bay has cared though. Andre Nikatina is dope. Check him out.
Also, Mexican rappers have invaded San Diego. If you enjoy a lot of words you don’t understand, you enjoy El Dago. But seriously, it is very gangster music, like back in the 90′s gangster hard.

I think that’s easily the hardest album out with We Are the Streets in a close 2nd place. And I can’t see how mofos can still sit there and deny that Beans won that battle. He took Put Your Hands Up beat and murdered it. That “kick ya ball over the fence / and let everybody know whose yard is this” line solidified the winner in that battle. next region to blow up on the map = midwest
^But the midwest is too “rangy” so technically they blew up a long time ago. Being that they don’t have one type of persona or style from state to state, it’s hard to guage them. For instance, you can take the Chi and they have artists with different types of styles that had mainstream success:
Twista
Kanye
Common
Do or Die
Lupe

btw, jay has the greatest body of work in hiphop. bar none. take the best four songs from every album and no artist comes close as a lyricist. only bodies of work that would be comparable would be producers like dre and premier.

^Sup Shantizzle? Though I prefer Chingy’s music over Nelly’s, I think they both came out and made a mockery of STL which is why many people don’t take them seriously. I can’t even say it’s “mockery”, they just exploited it to a point where it go redundant. Just a whole bunch of parties with fucked up accents. However, I think Murphy Lee is nice and definitely one of the better young guns outta the Midwest. That freetyle in the Basement with Joe Budden was on point. Nelly:
Country Grammar = Classic. First sing-song delivery style that everybody within two years will be coping. Clever word play and slang allows him to say some crazy shit on MTV ever 15 minutes when his video would play.
Nellyville = Classic. Fucking nominated for album of the year by white people. White. People. Probably because of the deep utopian shit on the title track. The only explanation I can come with. But really, not a dull track with a wide range of styles and content.
Sweat = Good. Not classic but if you listen to the entire album you can really tell how developed his abilities at true rapping has become. It is actually quite surprising. Just listen to “American Dream” or “Spida Man”.
Suit = Classic. Yeah, first hip-hop star that goes all out singing. Within two years, everybody will be coping.
In all, when in your first four albums, Sweat is the worse, you are looking good. Sweat is way a hell of a lot better than Vol. 1, Vol. 3, Nastradamus, I Am… That said, nothing has touched Blueprint or Illmatic level.
Also, 50 Cent quest to become the biggest R&B star is really just a cover for him retracing Nelly’s steps artistically.
Also, I really like Gnarls Barkley, but people need to get off Cee-Lo’s dick. It isn’t like he is paving the way for 50 Cent & Ludacris. Already done.
I’m out people. Purists, you guys need to join me in the real world of a music listener, not a music fan. I don’t give a fuck about the musicians, their stories, back-stories, current beefs, childhood, clothing, personal beliefs, or any of that shit. All I care about is what comes out of those speakers.

You have the same mentality as Nas, which is exactly why I Am… was a very expensive coaster. There is more to music than just lyrical content. It needs to flow with a good instrumental. If lyrics were everything, then we would be listening to books on tape.

and im gonna break it down to you fools why saigon is better than pap
pap is like canibus, jadakiss or big l, crazy lyricists, great punchlines, even when the beat aint knockin you can still bump their shit because their verses are always on point. BUT they’re one dimensional for the most part. pap doesnt really sound convincing when he does them introspective sad tracks, i can’t imagine him having a club hit, he can’t really pull off a love song… most of the GOATs have the ability to do mad different shit, nas, jay-z, scarface, pac, biggie, the only kind of one dimensional rapper that is in most people’s top 10 is g rap because he’s just that good. saigon is a lot more versatile than pap, which is why pap will never blow up (i wish he would though cause he’s really talented) and saigiddy just might if he pulls off a crazy hit track that gets radio and club play.

^^yeah for real. my paper is focusing on the rights of freedmen during the reconstruction era in georgia. i’m mainly focusing on 2 cases in particular in which race was a major factor in determining the rights of the parties in the law suits. i’ve read mad cases on this shit though and its crazy reading supreme court justices (i.e. Taney in Dred Scott) talk about black folk being an inferior class not capable of retaining the same rights as whites and etc.
matter of fact, here’s a direct quote from the Dred Scott case:
“They had for more than a century before been regarded as beings of an inferior order, and altogether unfit to associate with the white race, either in social or political relations; and so far inferior, that they had no rights which the white man was bound to respect; and that the negro might justly and lawfully be reduced to slavery for his benefit. ”

What’s ill about what you just wrote is the theory that the African was/is inferior spills into intraracial lines. I’ve met a couple of people here in Atlanta that have dark skin and they remember their grandmother favoring the lighter grandchildren. One woman I know is still having color issues because of it. Very attractive woman, she just can’t seem to accept it because she was not part of the light skinned group of grandchildren. Sad!

I’m a mixed race(Barbados&Honduras) person myself and people would test all the time……………… until I smacked this kid with a wrench across his cheek. Then everybody was like that red fucka is crazy!
^^ I feel ya bro. I’m light skinned myself, and was short and skinny as a kid. (I’m now 6 2′ 195). And when I was growning up niggas would test, until the stabbing incident. Oh and the few other stompings that left teef missing.

Bottom line 50 talks alot of bullshit that is contradictry and is fake like he in the wwf. One minute its fuck the police..while he hires police officers to protect him, next minute its Fat Joe flopped…while Mobb deep and Banks flopped almost as bad. Next minute its Ja rule singing…then he steals Ja rules style and runs with it. Nothing he says can be taking seriously.

================================================
I’m not sure if I mentioned this, but they trashed my place and stole a couple of items out of the house. Well, truth be told, I’m a pretty nice guy and you now what happens when you’re nice to people. I guess they thought it was all sweet. Well, it just so happens that two of my boys that I grew up with were in town. I also know a few goons from Bankhead. I told the test tube babies that all is good and I just want the things they took out of the townhouse. I met them back at the townhouse to pick up my shit and the look on their faces were priceless when they pulled up. Anyway, they got out of the car copping a plea. I was okay, but one of my boys said to one of the kids,”I don’t like the look on your face.” Mind you, the cats I was renting to be actin’ hardbody, plus I knew they had guns on them. They were on some, “we don’t want trouble shit.” Well before I could get the o part of no out, my boy smacked the kid so hard that he knocked him to the ground. My boy was like, “fuck that E, you too nice with these clowns!” Shit was hysterical.

I think it’s ironic that 50 hated on Ja so hard, and yet he’s set to go the exact same route…
Get Rich or Die Trying was hard (Venni Vetti Vicci)
The Massacre was softer (Rule 3:36)
and Before I Self Destruct will be some R&B garbage (Pain Is Love)

I think it’s ironic that 50 hated on Ja so hard,
^ 50 hated on Ja mostly cause him and Irv were running around call them self Gotti and Murderers and he called them out for that..
And also he had street beef with Supreme….who EXTORTED Murder Inc for a friendship….so that’s also another reason they didn’t like each other…
And yeah did some singing shit on his old mixtapes before GRODT even dropped so did bring that bs up now….
December 3rd, 2006 at 8:34 pm
What up Nah?
Fuck a mixtape show me the fuckin album…..for fucks sake how many mixtapes do Pap and Saigiddy need to come with – just put the fuckin album out….I rate both these niggas, they both spit but if they have’nt increased awareness of themselves in the streets and with the white peeps who buy their albums after countless mixtapes then they never will. Saigiddy, show me the fuckin album son……

>> I noticed they call jayz old & can’t dress and talk about his looks….but u never hear cam or any1 else say his past is fake or that he was never in the streets
not for nothing, but i can really only belive that Jay was pushin weight when he says it on RD, Vol. 1 or Vol. 2. now he’s resorted to whispering “marijuana” on “Do U Wanna Ride.” and he actually said marijuana, like how police refer to weed.
December 3rd, 2006 at 8:41 pm
alright nah right I’m going to leave u all for awhile wifey needs her medicine…….cccccchhhhhheeeeeeaaaaa
December 3rd, 2006 at 8:43 pm
@2x – don’t get me wrong, I respect 50 and I felt, at one point, he had the skills and buisness-sense to make it to Jay status one day but I think he’s falling off
Also, I’m not saying that 50 was wrong in beefing with Ja, all I was pointing out was that he, along with a lot of other people, criticized Ja for going down the R&B/hook-singing route and that, in retrospect, it’s worth pointing out
December 3rd, 2006 at 8:45 pm
What uo Two Times? How ya livin fella? I’m laughin at how you mysteriously popped up to defend G-Units honour! Whether 5-0 done shit in the streets or not isn’t an issue, the nigga could flow back when (Guess Who’s Back, GRODT) he just need to get back to that gully mental. Dudes would eat it up if he came with that Guess Who’s Back type shit…….
