the censoring really messes the track up though. still a good attempt to make a statement. but i dunno. he shouldnt have been lazy with the making a radio-friendly version. extended clip on ak was axed and so was the grinding, winding brazilian dimes from behind and them shits were repeated on the track a couple times. good luck to the homie.
one.
This video needs Dem Franchize Boyz and the Durtty Boyz from 107.9 in Atlanta hung in effigy. Oh yeah, and Luda too in that shirt. Nothing against Southern Hip Hop just the hoe shit them cats been doing lately. I just had a chance to listen to Bun B and Kay Slay and Bun B was scolding the wrong people. He should have been getting at those cats for the bullshit they’ve been on.
Eskay that’ll probably be up on you tube tommorrow…..O’reilly was saying they should put dude in jail for like 10 years and he would build a dog house prison just for him.
ooh i can’t wait till nas stans start to explain why their hood savior is dressed like common colliding with olu dara
i won’t front though, i’m not worried with what a rapper wears if his flow gonna change the world, but i mean… nas would be fitting in a gap ad right now
Back to the matter at hand…
Analyzing the video, the first 75% (whether you care if it’s edited or not) shows Nas standing in the street while people encase his CDs. What a waste…It is only at the end when he is “giving a speech” and the cops show up, that the video , “as a story-telling tool” picks up…Nas is part of, or head of, a subculture that is trying to expose hiphop to the masses.. Why couldn’t the video delve more into that? I can see any two bit rapper standing in the street rappin’…
I’m still concerned about when cats go around picking apart other dude’s clothes. If anything, give the guy props if you like it. If you don’t, keep your mouth shut.
i didnt like it - agreed - the butchering of his lyrics messed that up… the concept was there but they could have freaked it better. the album will still be fire tho - and the song is ill…
The lyrics censorship on this one really kills the song. How can you appreciate hearing Nas say “Grindin and hittin Brazillian Dimes From Behind” when all you hear is “____ __ ____ Brazillian Dimes ____ ______”
The thing with Snoop does not even concern me. That guy is a part of the elite that basically live lawlessly where the government makes it’s money fuckin’ with the working class on alot of bullshit. If any one of us got into as much trouble as this guy what do you think the consequences would be?
let me put this out there first, bell was in the back seet and there is no justification for him being shot. however, a car is a weapon and if the cop ID himself and the homey tried running him over then to cop was justified in shooting only the driver, not the 2 passagers. i live 1 stop away from off van wyck and ive seen many dudes get shot up out there between liberty and atlantic. so you have to put that in context.
now amado didnt have a car, had no gun, and he wasnt talking grezzy in the club and there was no justiification for his death.

^ The mainstream music from everywhere sucks for the most part. Nobody is being themselves anymore, and when the do we (the fans) don’t buy it.
Pap made some good points in that song and he spoke up about the situation. the flipside is he says nothing and niggas say “how come nobody in the hip hop community is speaking on this”
no not pap, hes known for tailoring his rhymes to new, kay sleezy is a fool, al sharpy is an ambulicance chaser. homey has a fat crib in uptown and only comes around to make the news

Why would you call Sharpton an ambulance chaser. He has been on the front line for years and has stuck his neck out for people in the community. You may not always agree with his tactics/politics, but the guy is a soldier.

^ I maybe speak too soon, but we don’t see or hear from Al until their is an event like this. We all know there are battles to fight every day and we don’t hear or see Al fighting those. May it’s because I don’t live in NY.
It’s sad when people look at Sharpton like that. I liken it to how these new rappers shit on the emcees that fight the fight daily. Sharpton is fighting every day.
>>>new label and u make a video that looks like it costs $10k.
thats the point that a lot of ppl are missing, it doesnt matter how much u spend on it, it was very creative and brought me back with an old school feeling at the same time
video is hot..smh @ people commenting on what he wear in the video..thats why hip/hop is dead, simple minded dudes.the whole concept of the video was hot..nas spit hot fiyaaaahh{c}dylan..lol
it was very creative and brought me back with an old school feeling at the same time
top of that if u arent feelin hhid
^ if Nas want to bring hip hop back all that shit… don’t talk about hip hop is dead and blah blah… drop some shit like “The Message”… damn he’s on Def Jam now he could have a big impact with that type of heat..
@2x..it seems like the opposite to me…b saying Hip Hop Is Dead grabs peoples attention..its kinda of like a controversial thing to say..and its foolish that rappa’s *ludacris* will take offense to it…prove nas WRONG by making good albums and good songs then…oh and WHATS GOOD!!..lol
saying Hip Hop Is Dead grabs peoples attention..its kinda of like a controversial thing to say..and its foolish that rappa’s
###
yea thats why saying south midwest west in the beginning is pussy…..like hes trying to defuse the tension he originally wanted to create…”yup in my white tee”
>>if Nas want to bring hip hop back all that shit… don’t talk about hip hop is dead and blah blah… drop some shit like “The Messageâ€â€¦ damn he’s on Def Jam now he could have a big impact with that type of heat..
smh. everybody knows how I feel about the Little Homey, but ya’ll niggas are impossible. HHID is a solid song. something like the Message? you can’t be serious.
What up….! Yeah I feel ya… I just think Nas could have could harder… But I definetly get what your saying… I was raging when I heard that clown J Nicks try to talk down on Nas…
And Btw you know Nas & Luda are real cool…. Luda even came to Nas’s wedding and shit, if I not mistaken… And he was on that Made you look remix…
@strong chef:
I don’t think anyone is really saying that the song is bad…but a crappy video just brings down a really good track As his debut video for the new album, he could have done more. Remember, regardless of what Nas says, his link with Jay, and the strong apparent push that Jay is giving him, means that they wanna sell to the non-Black, casual rap fan…and potentially do Kingdom Come numbers… This video is NOT appealing and is not really worth a second watch…Nas didn’t need booty-shaking, but think of all the memorable videos out there that you like to watch ad nauseum. Is this one of them? The answer is a resounding “hell nah.”
who watches videos anyway really? teenagers? housewives? grown people shouldn’t watch videos in the first place. if you’re at home wtaching Rap City you lost.

@2x..i mean by ludas tee he had on,saying hip hop aint dead it lives in the south..even if they cool or not, whateva it is..thats a stupid thing to do,IMO. but i guess its whateva>> free speech yadda yadda..i just wanna see good albums and singles/songs out there..not this candy coco puff, pop rocks mess thats been out from some artists ova the years and recently. i really hope Nas does well also,he deserves commercial success even if he aint out to get that.

^^seriously…the only time i watch videos is if they are posted on a website and then i only watch them that one time. anyway i like HHID as his first track. shit is hot to me.
kramer ruined seinfeld for me
^^me too. i took a nap today and i turned on the tv to help me fall asleep. i couldn’t leave it on seinfeld for more than like 1 minute. i useta love that show but now i don’t even feel comfortable watching it.
Are you telling me that the Def Jam coalition will be happy if Nas does numbers like the Roots? Get outta here! Def Jam wants Nas to cross over, whether Nas wants to or not… I find it hard to believe that they are putting a Nas album out in the 4th quarter and then not care if it has a Lupe sales.
i had no problem with luda’s tee. it seems like when someone from the south expresses how they feel, they are being “too sensitive” or whatever. yet an east coast artist can say the same shit and its all good. it would be a lil different if fabo had the tee on but who can really say that luda is not a lyrical artist.
And if no one cared about videos, why did def jam sink major cash into the video for “show me what ya got”? The answer is that Def Jam needs Jay to go platinum plus… He may have received co-promotion with BUD etc, but it was a big budget vid.
I see what u r saying but c’mon the name of the guys album is hhid and having a tee made up just to contradict that is offensive in itself. Its kind of like get ur own shit
luda ruined that “grew up a screw up”…. That was a classic biggie line on the best/only original collabo from BIG & Pac… And yeah I’m talking about the orgininal Runnin not the new shit that Em did…

^ What they’re saying is video’s are the promotion vehicle to get to the kiddies. Wack diss tracks like “Brooklyn” are for the grown folks
Luda was a hoe for that tee. Especially since he and Nas are supposed to be cool. It the exact same shit like when 50 entitled that mixtape HHID. It just goes against the code. There is no integrity.

^^^^nah, shanti i would say the same thing about fabo or whoeva..i meant artists in general..not just artist from the south.
nah, what i was saying is that i can understand if people were upset that Fabo had the tee on.
anyway, its whatever. maybe because i’m from the south i’m a lil biased when it comes to that tee but other than east coast people no one i’m cool with thought it was offensive.
i swear, if i don’t get a good mention in the nah right skit, or a decent bonus this year… i’m gonna come to john jay college and settle this thing once and for all. damn. i take a week off to fix my average and… damn, there goes another comment
I laughed at that 2 nation…but its luv ova hurr, south, west, east, and whateva else..the goonies was bugging out tho in the last couple of threads..i was reading comments maad that i couldnt put my 2cents in cause of the work i had to do..shanti i know about them double expresso shots,coffee,no-doze..lol
>> yeah and i took offense to that nation. i dont even understand how you had problems comprehending what i said.
aw hunney, don’t be that way. i got frightened at the thought of you being a black panther, i misread it, what can i say, i am white, i am intimidated by black people because black people > white people, ask russell simmons. i didn’t mean it that way, i just got worried that when you tell me your stepping out you’re with some black panther type dude smacking you up (a la forrest gump) and i aint there to hold you through your struggle.. *snaps out of it* lol actually eskay said something about a straw hat and overalls and i almost died i thought i would bring the joke back
in all seriousness though, black people were destined to rule the earth, ask 456.
I think I need to slow down my green intake cos a nigga is losin his shit well and truly, first up barkin at niggas in the last thread when no one was there, then accusin niggas of bein in the VIP Forum when everyone was just in the the other thread…..smh………smh………..

Yeah this video is boring, but then again what nas videos aint boring. I dont even watch videos these days apart from on nahright so who gives a shit. He needs to release a video for black republicans thatll be the shit. Wack video or not we can see that HHID is already better lyrically than Kingdom Come, it also has better beats than hovs album. we’ve heard black republicans, Where yall at, QB True G, HHID,WHere are they now,(maybe something else im forgetting)
So take those tracks and compare them to HOVs subpar album and its easy to see they are already better than any track on KD. They are also more hip hop, more lyrical and have better beats than any song on KD. SO Jay Z lost no matter how many suburban rich kids bought his album.
He lost cause his album while tight, isnt even on that high on the hip hop scale. He didnt take it back to the essence of hip hop or the streets like Nas is doing. I like a grown album, but Beach Chair, songs with beyonce, and pharrell and Neyo’ are not really hip hop.
No hate or nothing, but these stans need to admit the truth, call the video wack, cause it is, but dont lie to urself and say HHID isn’t already better than Kingdom Come. Cause it its better by far..
i wish people would get over the “vip forum.” trust me…its like being at the club and noticing that vip doesn’t look all that fun because the celebrity has gotten to the club yet and there’s only like 20 people in vip. you guys aren’t missing out on much. maybe if eskay would stop being lazy and let people in…
smh @ England sitting in a four cornered room in australia sweating his forhead off, smoking ridiculous amounts of green, or wtv colour it is down there, confused as fuck… (c) prodigy’s life expectancy

lol do you go to clubs in the A jsut expecting clifford to walk in aaannyy minuuttee now
I dont get people these dayz…@Paperstacker…all luv here, but u gotta give credit when due..hov’s album aint that bad…how can u say Beach Chair and half the album aint hip-hop are u kidding me..i luv nas, but his FULL album aint even out yet..wait untill DEC 19TH please to make comments about the quality of KC and HHID.
the way you said it was very “we were having a protest, but i had to do dem mafirmatics†standing there in your straw hat
That had me rollin too Shanti, can’t front…….which one of the suggestions I gave you did you use to go to sleep by the way? Were you flickin the prawn again?
conceptually, this is the best fuckin video ever. love the hiphop is illegal shit. classic. someone needs to dub over the dirty version and up that shit.

lol do you go to clubs in the A jsut expecting clifford to walk in aaannyy minuuttee now
^^ clifford is a man of the people…he walks through the regular crowd for a lil minute before he goes off to vip…sigh…he’s such a stand up guy.
^^^haha..wow i guess a good xmas gift for shanti is anything Clifford..and not the big red dog
ok i know this doesn’t change the age gap, nor does it justify my whiteness… but today is my last day of being a kid (at least in the eyes of the government)… yo i wish i could go fuckign get drunk in a park, beat up an old lady or have sex with a nine year old… can’t though, i got finals

As one of my former enemies, I gotta give props to Nas on this track & video. I think he’s gonna have quite a stellar career as a worker up there at Def Jam. With heat like this, he’s definitely gonna get a lot of “Employee of the Month” awards, and Jay will be handing him the trophies.
We’re both from the south, but I moved to the east coast at 16. Prior to that tyme the only music we listened to back home was old three six, playa fly, skinny pimp…and alot other local artists.
It wasn’t until I moved that I discovered Hip-Hop? The Illmatics and Reasonable Doubts…artists who crafted verses that made you rewind the tape. Back home it was all bout “kill him” “get buck” and other non Hip-Hop Messages.
However the argument started when I told her, the differences that I see in Music from Region to Region. I tried to get her to listen to a Lupe verse and tell me what she got from it (not expecting for her to a critical analysis, but atleast gather the general concept.) She missed by a longshot.
I told her it’s like the music that’s being forced-fed conmmercially down south, conditons the mind not to hear real hip-hop. It’s like if you listen to that music for so long, you become incapable of understanding the similies and metaphors of quality rappers. I also mention the comment 50 Cent made about the south, ( People down south don’t wanna think when they listen to music, they just wanna have fun)…at first I was offended, but then I remebered my experience growing up in the south… I slowly begin to agree. Though 50 Cent may not be the greatest messenger. The message, to me still remains true.
Yeah man the deiting is definately trash work…the levels are even distorted on the beginning of the first verse he shouldve just recorded an entire clean version.
>>>>and whats good with the brazilian dimes from behind edit..fuck! whats next theyre gonna edit out ‘dead’?????????
Kind of confused why nas released a song with the same beat as his first single 2 albums in a row??????? thiefs theme wasnt THAT good. actually i didnt like it at all. This is beter at least.
The video was sub par, it was loosely based on the song.. I would have liked to seen him go in the radio station and at least demand where is the hip hop…
the video was only aight in execution… where do i go to share my video treatments.. thats another reason why nas is not as memorable as jay.. the videos are only ok
no diggs, not only is jay-z more memorable than my man nas, jay understands and has more control when it comes to how his demographic will view him on a daily basis, on every level down to every camera shot and sound bite he uses to promote. Its not that nas dont have the power that jay does to get what he wants its that he REALLY dont understand every facet of marketing like jay does..Nas dont realize how important that is, hes still old school in that respect, he feels that rhyme skill alone should determine an mcs place in history, but what he wont see is that most people that buy hip-hop albums are fuckin retarts and we all know that there is more retarts than there is smart people, so jay will always sell to ALL retarts and MOST smart people and nas only sells to smart people who usually talk shit about fake-ass marketing schemes and all the retarts they are surrounded with that listen to jay-z…ITS ALL RETARTED BULLSHIT!! NAS AND JAY ARE BOTH NASTY.. TWO TOTALLY DIFFERNT DUDES NEITHER IS BETTER THAN THE OTHER, NAS COMPLETES CRAZY DEEP THOUGHTS EVERY 4-8 BARS, EVERY BAR JAY SPITS IS A COMPLETE THOUGHT IN AND OF ITSELF NOO YAWK NEVER DIED / EMPIRE STATE
[…] Black Market Malitia dropped this remix with R.A. earlier this year, but I only just around to rocking it. Rugged Man’s verse sounds like the precursor to that Nas name-dropping piece, but he wisely avoids shouting out Fu-Schnickens and Oaktown’s 357. PR reheats “U.F.O” for a Styles P and Sheek one two punch, while his future-shock masterpiece “Game of Death” still sounds the business since it first dropped (although I still prefer the Rock Marcy solo version). Preme’s buddy Termanology exposes a whole different verbal technique than he showcased on his break-out single for “100 Jewels”, while Premier produces an ill conceptual Poet drop which still hasn’t surfaced on black wax despite being a few months old. Finally there’s the obligitory GFK material, as his veers away from shop-talk for a classic bugged Starks narrative over what I’m assuming is a Doom producto. […]

November 29th, 2006 at 10:00 pm
Back to the matter at hand…
Analyzing the video, the first 75% (whether you care if it’s edited or not) shows Nas standing in the street while people encase his CDs. What a waste…It is only at the end when he is “giving a speech” and the cops show up, that the video , “as a story-telling tool” picks up…Nas is part of, or head of, a subculture that is trying to expose hiphop to the masses.. Why couldn’t the video delve more into that? I can see any two bit rapper standing in the street rappin’…
November 29th, 2006 at 10:00 pm
I’m still concerned about when cats go around picking apart other dude’s clothes. If anything, give the guy props if you like it. If you don’t, keep your mouth shut.
November 29th, 2006 at 10:00 pm

The lyrics censorship on this one really kills the song. How can you appreciate hearing Nas say “Grindin and hittin Brazillian Dimes From Behind” when all you hear is “____ __ ____ Brazillian Dimes ____ ______”
November 29th, 2006 at 10:05 pm

@strong chef:
I don’t think anyone is really saying that the song is bad…but a crappy video just brings down a really good track As his debut video for the new album, he could have done more. Remember, regardless of what Nas says, his link with Jay, and the strong apparent push that Jay is giving him, means that they wanna sell to the non-Black, casual rap fan…and potentially do Kingdom Come numbers… This video is NOT appealing and is not really worth a second watch…Nas didn’t need booty-shaking, but think of all the memorable videos out there that you like to watch ad nauseum. great video, even if the track was cut to shit, I think the point came across quite clear.
although the “hip hop is illegal” concept sounds really familiar, I swear to God I’ve seen that in another video, but I can’t place my finger on it.
regardless, that’s an album I am buying legitimately, no bootlegs, no downloads.

November 30th, 2006 at 10:35 am
Kinda of Base Here
but me and my girl had an argument on Hip-Hop
She was heated. Did I go to far?
November 30th, 2006 at 10:59 am
Yeah man the deiting is definately trash work…the levels are even distorted on the beginning of the first verse he shouldve just recorded an entire clean version.
>>>>and whats good with the brazilian dimes from behind edit..fuck! whats next theyre gonna edit out ‘dead’?????????

November 30th, 2006 at 12:58 pm
Kind of confused why nas released a song with the same beat as his first single 2 albums in a row??????? thiefs theme wasnt THAT good. actually i didnt like it at all. This is beter at least.
November 30th, 2006 at 11:16 pm
Feelin’ the video… Nasir on his dean.
December 1st, 2006 at 1:58 am
The video was sub par, it was loosely based on the song.. I would have liked to seen him go in the radio station and at least demand where is the hip hop…
the video was only aight in execution… where do i go to share my video treatments.. thats another reason why nas is not as memorable as jay.. the videos are only ok
alwayzambitious
December 1st, 2006 at 6:27 pm
no diggs, not only is jay-z more memorable than my man nas, jay understands and has more control when it comes to how his demographic will view him on a daily basis, on every level down to every camera shot and sound bite he uses to promote. TWO TOTALLY DIFFERNT DUDES NEITHER IS BETTER THAN THE OTHER, NAS COMPLETES CRAZY DEEP THOUGHTS EVERY 4-8 BARS, EVERY BAR JAY SPITS IS A COMPLETE THOUGHT IN AND OF ITSELF NOO YAWK NEVER DIED / EMPIRE STATE
December 2nd, 2006 at 10:25 am
I Mean SHEEEEEEEEEEIT… might as well just play the instrumental
December 4th, 2006 at 8:47 am
