Jay On Pace To Crack 800K
Yeah yeah, another fucking Jay-Z post. I know, I’m a stan, Def Jam secretly owns Nah Right…whatever man. I guess I’m supposed to ignore news like this:
From HitsDailyDouble’s one day sales report:
He’s everywhere…and by next Tuesday, Jay-Z’ll make himself at home on top of the album chart, too.
Riding the wave of Black Friday and holiday dollars, the rapper looks headed for the year’s best debut week total of the year for his Kingdom Come-back on Def Jam, with our national network of retailers estimating a sales total of 850k, which will soundly defeat the previous high, Rascal Flatts’ 714k last April.
This website tends to be off by a few thousand when the actual Soundscans come in so I would say give or take 10 thousand up or down. Either way it’ll be the biggest debut, hip hop or otherwise, yet this year. I guess this means New York hip hop is back?
Disclaimer: Of course, as well all know, sales are irrelevant when discussing music.

Album is still nothing more than a $12.00 sedative…a big snore from the big Homey….
Nas is the only hope for meaningful music in ‘06…and hopefully a second Ether.
November 22nd, 2006 at 3:05 pm
I would have much rather had him sell 100,000 units and make a damn good album. I bought the marginal album though, so who am I to complain.

Kingdom come was not the greatest album he made as everybody agrees. But, from my interpretation of the music business as it is today, jay has hit a gold mine. I thought the nigga was joking when he compared his game to chess but this nigga is a genius at taking advantage of pop culture while still staying true (somewhat) to his fans. he doesn’t need new followers, he just sticks with the old folks that have been with him from RD, make a mature sounding CD (short of reminding my ass how broke i am), tackles politics, beefs, natural disasters and still appeal to the folks that buy his CD (mainly white folks). That’s short of a marketing genius if you ask me. FUCK STREET CRED I”M ABOUT TO LEARN THE GAME OF CHESS
November 22nd, 2006 at 3:24 pm

Hey Eskay, are you saying Nas lost cos Jay will outsell him?
I mean this is not serious and pretty childish? I know 20’s is the new 10’s but come on mate!
Jay is on point on most of the album but this is no TBA but it’s fine. I was there for his two London shows and they were the best hip-hop shows I have ever attended. Only Sizzla and Capleton shows I have enjoyed more than Jay’s.
I really do not care who wins Nas/Jay, Illmatic was the best musical (B.Marley excluded) experience I have ever had hip hop wise followed by Cuban Lynx and RD.
Nas will prevail and I am sure Jay is inspired by HHID now and will bounce back from KC
I don’t care about sales man otherwise I would be listening to some crap pop music

You should know more than anyone that everything is perception. Nothing is good or bad, it just IS. Making 30 grand a year ain’t bad until you compare it to someone making 100k. 30 grand compared to 10k a year is ballin. My point is that white people are advantageous to you, if you choose to look at them that way. What ever you look for you can find. You’re CHOOSING to view them in that light.

… i respectfully disagree … all humans have the capacity to do good or bad … those who invariably choose to do evil, as a culture, have no choice but to be viewed as evil … yeah, i use whitey to my advantage when possible … i do tap-dance from 9-6 to earn a living, and whitey SWEARS im one of the “acceptable negros” because of my professional and businesslike demeanor, so i know how to assimilate for the purpose of bettering my financial and social status … but lack of awareness of who the whites really are is why we cant get these monkeys of our back … if our people could see whites in their TRUE essence, i wouldnt sound so extreme and bitter when i type … when in reality, knowing that they are inherent purveyors of evil, makes them easier to deal with … there’s no “why are they so mean?” or “why is this happening to us?” … you already know and have overstanding … i wish i didnt have to view them in that light, but if they just would have stayed in the caves, then transgressions would have never seen the light of day … but that’s another under-told story …

Jay-Z Album Ranking
1- Reasonable Doubt
2- The Blueprint
3- Volume 1
4- The Live Album (I forget the name)
After that, thet just filter down to marginal albums. So ranking doesnt really matter.

I can see Jay hittin that mark but off his name alone because like I said wit tha exception of a few joints his album is ass str8 up. Nas probably won’t do that his 1st week but I believe his album will definitely b harder than Jay’s. I’m Jay fan but,not stan so I’m jus bein honest.

I hear you. As long as you realize that your viewpoint is simply YOUR viewpoint. The fact that you feel strongly about what you believe is because it’s been repeated over and over and now those beliefs are in your subconscious. Someone who believes differently may have just as strong of belief, doesn’t mean anyone’s view is more right than another’s.

I think I put my finger on what makes KC such an average album. I commend Jay for trying to expand his range of topics beyond his basic braggadocio (spelling) style which he has perfect so flawlessly over the last 12 years but to be blunt, he’s not very good at much else.
I think when I compare Nas to Jay what always stood out was how Jay was able to make a club banger and Nas really struggled at it. Now we get to see the other end of the spectrum. When Jay tries to create something thought provocative, he struggles with it.
Jay is good at telling stories that are close to his heart, which he has demonstrated over the years but when it comes to jewels, >shakes head like Snoop in drop it like its hot video

case in point “Minority Report” in theory is a great song but because Jay had no direction in the song, it made me feel embarrased for him. Sort of like when you see someone trip down the steps in front of a girl and you cringe like it was you who actually fell.
So I ask of Jay, I understand your grown and want to change the direction of your music, but I just want the old (no pun intended) cocky, arrogant, name brand dropping, expensive taste sharing Shawn Carter back. Take it back to the club and leave the verbal jewelry to Nasir.
Thanks.

The Jay CD is an instant classic. Like always- I hear it one-way or-the-other and then I go support the dude in the stores. What many of you brainless peps fail to realize is that he kept your attention throughout his whole album. If one can listen to the entire joint, then it must be considered a banger. Picture this, someone play some local, underground shht you dont like, you cut it off on the first few seconds and chump it up as bullshhht..
How can any of you mudane indiviuals curse a name like Jay. All that he has done for you. You dudes talk and drink Cristal like you knew the turn coat personally. The man lets you know what it is to be rich. He expresses his thoughts to you-you selfish bastards and this is the thanks he gets. If you can’t side wit him then you must be the enemy. His words are directed to you all.
Jay is sitting back laughing at you dudes, he got his. He met people that we only wish we had the chance to meet. He has impacted the whole and given you fools a fvckn voice in this movement of a world.

Jay z is different, and that works for him. Hes that cat that sees the same things we do, he reports it different.Like a night club owner (a good one)he can be at the party but not caught up in it. Thats real. For all you hip hop experts understand this 43-38 year olds have experienced rap from the beginning Rap needs to grow up.Because we are so much more than party goers, were business owners, coaches, teachers, husbands, sons, fathers.Real talk when my sons were young i would ride around listening to songs that had much to much cursing in them.nice beats but no substance.Kids repeat songs in the damnest places. At the end of the day you can not argue with numbers.
