We Eat Fish
Last night Def Jam presented the latest Ghostface LP More Fish to the New York rap journalism mafia up at Sony Studios in Manhattan. Ghost and the entire Theodore Unit including Trife Da God and Sun God were in the building and L.A. Reid put away the Chinese slippers and ascot and came through to show Ghost some love. Before I get into this, let me just say that the main thing to understand about this project is that it is technically not a Ghostface album.
This is in fact a Theodore Unit posse album that prominently features Ghostface. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but if you go in thinking you’re going to get your typical Ghost solo, then you’ll be disappointed. It’s definitely more Stapleton to Somalia than Pretty Toney.
You’ve probably already seen the track list, so you know its 17 songs deep (as of now). Trife Da God usually spits some fire, and he and the rest of TU hold it down on a hard hitting posse cut called "Miguel Sanchez." Ghost’s 17 year old son (Sun God) also appears on the track and makes another appearance on the track "Street Opera," which leaked last week with the title "God To God."
In addition to the Theodore Unit regulars, you’ll also find appearances from Redman (on "Greedy Bitches") and Sheek Louch (on "Blue Armor") both of which were stand out tracks for me. I also really enjoyed "Guns N’ Razors" and "Pokerface" which is preceded by a skit featuring Hot 97’s Miss Info. I may be forgetting something because about 2/3rd’s of the way through the album they stopped announcing the track names (or maybe I stopped paying attention) and I lost track of what was what. All in all this shit bangs. My only complaint would be more Ghost and less of everybody else, but other than that, Starks is on his grizzly.
