Okay fuck all the hating…let’s analyze the track…First, who produced it? It sounds to me like it has to be Dre or Scott Storch, but since I haven’t of Storch being on the album, I gotta assume it’s Dre. On second thought the way the drums are sequenced actually kinda reminds me of that song that Dre prodced for Eve a couple of years ago. I would bet on Dre. Actually, I would bet a lot this is Dre. Maybe even Chris Martin on the keys, but that would seem to be kinda pointless to get him on the album and have him just play that little eight bar loop, so I doubt it. Anyway, I heard the Dre + CM track was called “Beach Chair” or something. Second, who are the verses about? Whoever called it is right, Dame, Beyonce, then his dead nephew. Anyone who hates on this is crazy - Jay Z gettin introspective about some relationships that have been pretty private yet still highly scruitinized by the media? That’s dope to me. Third, who is that on the hook? It does kinda sound like Badu at times, but I don’t think so. It’s def. not G.Paltrow, so I dont know. It will be interesting to find out who it is

much better than anything that’s leaked recently and all of the remixes he been on… lyrically he’s getting closer to black album level but still it falls short.. some bars are REALLY sloppy.. keeps the same rhyme going to the detriment of the meaning.. the low point is his dissecting of words (he-ro-in; fi-na-ly; etc.) which comes of real fake on this beat and breaks the flow.. i think he was aiming for something along the lines of Lucifer.. not even close..

^yeah G7. i was a little worried when i heard that first single. but this remind me of the joints he did with scarface. he extended the lauryn hill song and applied it to his situation. and you’re right its not his greatest song but it has glints of his genius: the hook - “sorry, i’m a champion” is deep and full of feeling. remind me of the first time i heard the ‘can i live’ hook. sometimes its not enough to win.

First off, stop hating on Hov, the bar has been set so high for this guy if he dropped Hard Knock Life right now you’d bash it. Hova apparently means Haters On Various Attacks. Second, stop comparing Jay to MJ on the Wizards. Michael Jordan was a basketball player, a physical athlete, who was playing high level sports in his late 30s. Jay is a rapper. Stanism is a tough language for me to understand but i’ll do my best. Your hero Hov is afraid of what Budden can do. Plain and simple. I’m a Hov fan and Budden fan. I wouldn’t mind hearing Budden album some time soon. Haters say Budden has no fan base and blah blah, but his label put him in that predicament dummies.
Jay is one of the greatest for sure. That’s without doubt. But your hero is not really supporting real hiphop if he’s co-signing acts like Lady Sov and Rick Ross. Ross is crawling right now. He just crawled to gold. That’s a disappointment for the label. I know Budden can do at least Ross numbers right now. Hov doesn’t want him to shine or anybody else on the east coast.

The problem is labels only know how to promote one way. If they could accept the fact that some people are niche guys and spend their promo money with that in mind, they wouldn’t take L’s when smaller artists do 80,000. They want smaller artists to come all out of character to live up to the gold/platinum promo TRL and all that angle that they want to push it from.

I’ve kept “Broken Wings” in heavy rotation, since Eskay posted it, but I gotta agree with the notion that, despite the fact that Buddens is one of the best on the mic, he just doesn’t have whatever that intangible “it” is to make niggas cross over and do big numbers…I’ll support him regardless, because I consider myself to be a real hip hop head, and lyrics are 95% of the equation to me (Joey is nice with his)….but let’s be honest, how many true hip hop heads do you know? Do you really think there are a million plus out there that appreciate lyricism and originality? Shit, even Jada had to go with a gimmicky concept to cross over (that “Why” joint, which, by the way, bit Common’s “the Questions” from Like Water for Chocolate”, and even Common had to affiliate with a crossover clown to move 750K units) For the most part, to go plat, rappers have to water down their formula or reach to diversify their fanbase, and Joe already tried that and failed with that “Pump it Up” nonsense….with that joint, he converted a few non fans, and detracted some of his hardcore supporters, which had a net effect of each point of view cancelling out the other….

Jay-Z probably has left Joe on the shelf, because he doesn’t need another flop on his resume, especially at this point in time where hip hop is going thru a transition and even heavily hyped cats with dope product put up bricks (F&L, anyone?)—-Joe Buddens’ window of opportunity is closing, and I hope that he stays hungry enough to slide through that bitch before it closes all the way….Sorry for the term paper, lol….

Let’s drop the Buddens talk now. Whoever keeps bringin him up is definitely a Buddens stan. If anyone is bringin NJ back it’s Redman. But back to the biz, this song is hot. It adds depth to the album and I am glad to hear it on here. Whoever said bring back “Hard Knock Life” again is a couple of centuries late. Not to diss Hard Knock, I liked the album, but when looking at his albums in its entirety, the reason Hard Knock is mentioned is b/c it was his first platinum album and 1 million people finally got it. Fast forward to this shit. Beat is dope, content is personal, and effect is def b/c it adds depth to the album. The thing is simply that is JayZ so people will automatically love and hate it… its just the nature of people. It surprises me how many “Is this a Dre beat?” I’m hearing… It also suprises me that the context of the versus are taken to new “philisophical**” heights. If you dont know who produced the beat… does it matter?. I personal think its a cool song… he’s talking from the heart, even tho i know he can do better. I like Kingdom Come and his other jump off “Show Me What You Got”, even tho the main hook and the beat is a rip from the old Public Enemy song by the same name. All three tracks are good in my book. I like the track, it’s simple, it’s personal, it’s real. Alot of people will never have a yacht, half million dollar cars and crazy acre homes, but we can all relate to broken friendships, relationships and lost loved ones. He’s showing the human side, I, personally like to see that in an artist and no matter how big Jay gets he finds a way to give you that amongst all the other things. The game has gotten so diluted now that you recieve criticism for being human…lol. Its not beyonce, its not mary, it doesnt sound like gwenyth but thats not to say its not. I heard speculation that its marsha from floetry, i dont think so. Lady sovereign doesnt sing - or if she does, not anywhere near that well.

This song talks about painful problems with friends and co-workers (Dame: verse 1), it also talks about relationship problems (Beyonce: Verse 2) and finally it talks about the death of a close loved one (His nephew: Verse 3).
These are things that everyone can relate to at some point in life. I, for one am glad to hear Jay being honest and talking about something real that everyone can relate to. I love it when rappers let us get a glimps of what is going on in their lives. I think people can respect honesty.
I just hope that “the faith that was started” in Jay’s life is true faith in Jesus. That’s something we all need…the Saviour to save us from ourselves, and our sin.

ive just listened to this song 5 times. Now, I honestly hate rap music. Detest it. ABHOR it. and i dont mean ALL rap, i still respect old school and underground. But listening to this track actually reminds me of why some rap can still live. Im not saying its the greatest song ever, but if i ACTUALLY downloaded it and sat down to listen to it, it must mean something. It is his way of attacking or removing what has hurt him, through lyrics. I dont know if anyone may know this,(sarcastically speaking)but lyrics are used for self expression, not to snap and lean and walking it out to a bunch or retards over a beat.

This track is the realest shit out right now, real talk. I canâ€™t believe so many of you guys are sleeping on this. Havenâ€™t we heard enough of Hov to realize heâ€™s a lyricist? Why must everything be a club track talkin about gold bottles and bars full of nonsense. There isnâ€™t 1 formula to make a hitâ€¦ back to what we all know, introspective shit we can all relate to. Switched up his flow and road the beat like a pro, as usual. Classic.
