dancehall is 20 years ahead of its time. it’s political, teaches people how to live and it functions as a healer in people’s everyday lives. bob marley is one of the new kings. look at how his family lives.
so my point is if you are a king of hiphop you have to do more than just make music. you have to help people escape their suffering – mentally, physically, economically, spiritually. how can you live in this brave new world without some engagement with the machine? what is real hiphop if not step-by-step instruction on how to survive the machine? how could jay attain the level of freedom he has without slaying that dragon?
