Eskay come on man.. Although you make a good point, youre overlooking the fact that, sure “actual CD money is low” but, look at all the money he will make by coming out of retirement period..
I will explain this one more time for those of you who didnt get it..
When Jay was with the Roc, he had to split everything 3 ways.. period.. It was cool at first, cause they all played important roles.. But
as time passed, Jay realized he was the one making the product, so why put out an album on the ROC and split it 3 ways, when he can walk away and start over and make closer to all of the money (minus the lables cut)..
Its simple business, he took a little break, kept himself in the spotlight (def jam pres) but ulitmatly put himself in a better situation to make money of his MAIN hustle.. music..

it’s very simple. you’ll never go platinum or multi on Koch cuz you get no promotion. if you’re already an establsihed big name artist, you feel like Koch is beneath you cuz your conditioned into getting raped by the majors. you feel like you need to be on a major to do huge numbers, and for the most part you do. Koch is for smaller artists with small but loyal fanbases.

If you are an artist and you have a fan base of 250K I’d choose Koch. You gonna make more off each cd you sell. you can make the music you want vesus bein on atlantic or sony sellin your soul and risk your publishin messin wit there super lawyers. If you lazy and want to just go to the sudio and rap and go home at the end of the day and not do nuthin else better go to a big label and risk that publishing. Awwww ESKAY you kinda siced it up a bit….at least Lupe said it more tactfully….that he’s in it for business motivations. I mean, I hear that. Jigga does need to do the business thing and step outta music (his own, that is) –or at least put some other niggas on, but who can really blame him…we’d all probably do the same thing (aside from screwing over the artists on our own label).

that statement seems to be taken out of context money and business go hand in hand i was thinking the same thing but that’s its everything you know how sales are in a slump right now and i don’t think it’s fair to dis anyone for it or the lack there of jay-z ,puff,possibly 50 maybe even nelly,and kanye(luda doing good too) can reboot the industry on that level i think jay coming out would help his signees the way he’s selling out arenas will breathe life into those other artists cuz although it’s not guaranteed(as recently evidenced with some big names) ppl folow cliques,labels etc. and with this reinterest in jay his ppl should prosper also nas appearing with him is probably 1 sign of what i’m talking about thats more promo for nas than jay cuz he’s selling out regrdless its probably been a min. if ever that nas rocked those type of venues(i think they should stay awy from the reality series thing though if they do it it should be kelis’ thng and he play mostly the background) so that’s the way i take the statement not he’s in it for the money but he’s making a business decision the label needs those big numbers until mariah drops again

Why everybody on here talk like they know every damn thing. They know the record business, they the streets, each rappers personal life. This site has some excellent post but the people leaving comments sound like a bunch of haters man. Especially the regulars damn. I visit the site everyday eskay cause you post very well. Sometimes you are very biased its your site though. But you need to get rid of some of that hate that gets posted I mean DAMN.
