DMX Tries To Kill The Soundman
You would think that in 2006 a soundman would know better than to cut off a rap artist, any rap artist, in the middle of their set. Think again. Last night at Hot 97′s Back To School Jam, after deading G-Unit after half an hour, some moron soundguy tried to pull the same stunt with one Earl Simmons:
…His set was stopped after only 15 minutes, prompting him to storm furiously to the edge of the stage. After yelling fiercely at the soundman for several minutes, the rapper, who was born Earl Simmons, suddenly leaped down on top of him, causing the audience to erupt in cheers.
What followed was more confusing than chaotic: unidentified crowds traipsed across stage, disembodied voices begged the audience to remain calm, and DMX briefly reemerged to warm applause.
If you read the whole story, you’ll get an idea of how this show was basically one big heaping pile of bad karma stuffed into the Nassau Coliseum. Sprinkle on some aggravation, DMX, and a little bit of crack, and this is what you get.

The soundman should have shot DMX. Then at least I wouldn’t have to
read any more stupid ass headlines about this crackhead. Their wouldn’t
be anymore episodes of that dumbass reality show. And lastly and most

It isn’t the beats fault. Jay-Z can ride and kill any beat. It is called flow. Usually rappers who write their lyrics before they hear the beat have a major flow problem.
Maybe some of these rappers should do an accapella album. I have some really fire accapella tracks from the underground that just wouldn’t be the same if there was a beat.
Lupe Fiasco and Rhymefest are two prime examples of lyrical heat also have flow.

I define, and think most people would agree, flow as the ability to ride a beat. Jay-Z is exponentially better at this than anybody else. He can kill any track, any style.
And it is not the beats fault. You can hear very few instrumentals and think, “oh, this is a hit”. The lyrics add all of the depth and appeal to the song.
I think a perfect example of this is Nas’ verse on the Da Backwudz’s “You Gonna Luv Me” Remix track. One of the best vocal samples in hip- hop history, and just listen to how Nas stumbles over the track. Seriously, Slim Thug made him look like silly.
Also, listen to Kanye rap on a track he hasn’t produced. Rappers with flow can confrom to the instrumental. Rappers without have to have the beat come to them.

i think rappers are intelligent enough to pick a beat that isnt slapped together in 3 minutes using church organs and banjo’s.

And two, Jay-Z rode that beat. That was a very slow Southern beat, and Jay-Z had a better verse than two of the better Southern artists. It maybe not be your sub-genre or style, but respect it. People in the South heard that song and gave Jay his props. Respect it.

the reason Jay and NaS are always debated is because they are different types of MC’s. NaS makes mood muzik. Jay makes popular hits. it just depends on your mind frame. if you go out to the club every night, i think you might lean to Jay. if you got real shit goin’ on and you in the hood every night, you might lean to NaS.

Whoever said its a lotta niggas on this site who are Jay stans is spot on but at the same time Hov is worthy of that kind of attention. The nigga can flow, he can ride a beat for sure. BUT he ain’t no Biggie and he can’t ride a beat like that nigga despite what Cut In Front was yappin on about. Machine Gun Funk is the track you was sayin he did’nt flow on which I kind of agree with you about but he still rides that beat pretty sick. Regardless the last 2 verses on Beyonce tracks form Hov have been ass, no hidin from that fact.

album soundin’ hot overall, most of the beats are on some NY shit (except the now-obligatory southern track.) dont know if i’d cop it, maybe i would if i had some cash.

What’s funny is that eskay fears 2Pac more than anything else. I’m sure what eskay considers his disciples in the Church of Jay-Z flip the second the word “Pac” is dropped. Me and biggums especially.
I’d always love to dream that 2Pac would come back and it would be like the second coming of Christ and start a true revolution, in hip-hop and just our culture in general. But with Katrina and “Laffy Taffy” hitting the African-Americans right after each other, I think it is safe to say 2Pac is never coming back.
Imagine that MLK JR. episode of Boondocks, except with 2Pac. Damn, it’s fun to dream.

Some of you guys confuse me. On one hand yall be like Lupe is this and that then you go on to say Jay Z is “ass.” The way you all are comparing music has me thinking Hip Hop is really on it’s very last leg. It’s about to go the same way as Jazz. Lupe is okay. Duke is nice, but he would have been just another rapper in the 90′s; the time period where the nicest in the game made their mark. Oh yeah, yall are buggin’ if you don’t believe “Machine Gun Funk” wasn’t sick. I implore you to listen to that whole disk again.

The Beef shows basically made me realize even more in life that in every conflict, there’s his story, the other dudes story, and then the troof. Cuz each situation, when one rapper was explaining his side of the story, it made sense… When the OTHER dude was talking, he would make sense as well.

[...] The first part of this story I came across over at nahright where X attacked the soundman because.. well he wasn’t happy with the sound. It was one of those radio sponsored smorgasbord lineups with like 232432 artists. I’m sure its easy being a soundman for those nights, have those types of shows EVER sounded good? MTV had some more on this incident, including one of X’s weed carriers injuring a concertgoer, with a chair throw.. “A member of the audience picked up a steel folding chair and threw it onstage,” Daub explained. “It was thrown back off by a member of DMX’s entourage and it struck the victim in the head.” [...]
