Jay-Z – Kingdom Come Details

Friday, September 15th, 2006

Here’s the Entertainment Weekly article in it’s entirety. Below are some details about potential tracks and a potential Eminem guest spot.

Kingdom‘s lyrics, too, come from a wide variety of sources. A track called ”Most Kings” is inspired by a Jean-Michel Basquiat painting (which he owns). ”Lost Ones” finds the man who once rapped about his inability to shed tears dealing with the car-crash death of a beloved relative. ”One of the most crushing things that ever happened to me was losing my nephew,” he says. ”As you mature you realize that being vulnerable isn’t weak. You realize that a man is himself.”

He doesn’t yet know who will guest-perform on the CD (”I take care of that at the end”). But one candidate is Eminem. The only rapper who can claim more success than Jay-Z over the past decade did produce a track, ”Moment of Clarity,” on The Black Album. But Eminem has kept an almost invisible profile since a spell in rehab and his short-lived remarriage to Kim Mathers. ”I speak to him from time to time,” says Jay-Z. ”He’s holding up. You know, he went through a tough time. He’s getting stronger.”

Rumor Control: Game vs. Ras Kass?

Thursday, September 14th, 2006

game-raskass.JPG

So the word on these mean internet streets is that Ras Kass and The Game got into it last night at Club Element in Hollywood. HHNLive.com has an account of the scuffle from an unammed Black Wall Street source, which is of course predictably biased towards their fearless leader. There are also two different stories posted on both of the artists respective websites, both of which seem to have Game coming out as the victor, although under completely different circumstances. Keep in mind both of these guys have projects scheduled to drop within the next couple of months.

Update: The two artists address the incident. Well at least guns didn’t come out.

In honor of the 10th anniversary of Tupac’s passing, I’m posting a few rare video clips of Pac interviews and Pac related news stories. I tried to select clips that reflect the conflicted nature of Pac’s life: his talent, his wisdom, his legal woes, and his fuck the world attitude.

Rest in peace Tupac Amaru Shakur.

Video: 50 Cent XXL DVD Feature

Tuesday, September 12th, 2006

Here’s (Edit: a clip from) the 50 Cent and Hot Rod segment from the XXL DVD magazine that’s currently in stores. It pops off with an interview in which 50 explains how he added the ‘Hot’ to his young protégé’s ‘Rod.’ Pause. He then goes on to describe how surprised he was when he first met him and saw how attractive he was. True story. Then the two new best buddies hop in this sick old school Lincoln Zephyr and cruise around Manhattan chit chatting with random white guys and basking in the glory that is Curtis Jackson. Must see TV indeed. There are a couple of previews of some other features from the DVD up at the XXL site if you’re interested. They include a clip of an interview with Carmen Bryan, Nas’s baby’s moms, Raekwon and Mike Jones golfing, and Saigon interviewing Ice Cube.
