Papoose is crazy over rated IMO. “Sharades” is dope, but other than that, he makes mediocre songs. I don’t see why cats are labeling him New York’s great hope. I know New Yorkers want one of their mc’s to step up and fill the void left by Jay (pre “Kingdom Come”), but c’mon ya’ll, in your Yankee hearts you know this cat aint the one to replace T.I. or Wayne as the current # 1 contenders for Jay’s throne (neither is Saigon). Pap doesn’t do good songs, his flow is wack sometimes, his voice and lyrics are decent but not “rewind that back” dope. I can name two cats from up top that are way nicer than Pap, but don’t get half the shine Pap does (Corey Gunz and Ransom).

a couple of things (all IMO)
1st off, Jay needs to retire. He has nothing more to brag about that he hasn’t already bragged about. He’s not going to go political ‘cos he knows that’s career suicide (plus he cares about $ too much, and u can’t mixt the two). He’s not going to get all sensitive on us like he did on Blueprint (MAMA LOOOVES MEEE) ‘cos that’ll put a bullseye on him, not to mention make him look like a certain Mr Jones. I can hear ppl sayin that he’s gone soft if he does that.
2nd: PAPOOSE’s voice is ANNOYING..I’ve NEVER made it ALL the way thru 1 of his screaming collections that ppl call a mixtape. He displays some intelligence with his punchlines, but he’s not that nice. Dude from Binary Star has MUCH better punchlines. And I feel Pap’s not really saying anything significant. Saigon makes better songs (SOONGS!) than Pap, although Pap may be more lyrical.
3rd, I REALLY want them to turn rap into the NBA. Retired the old muthafuckas and let some new and fresh talent get in the industry, so we don’t have people trying to be the next (Jay, Nas, Big, bla bla bla). The music that is coming out right now is so fucking stale it puts me to sleep.

Papoose is that nigga.
Spread across his dozen plus mixtapes, he has enough amazing songs to make a debut that will rank up there with the great debut’s ever (Illmatic, Reasonable Doubt), but some of the best albums ever (Blueprint, 7 Day Theory).
The only thing that gives me pause is that he has said in interviews that he has enough material for two or three albums, and it is just a matter of picking and choosing the tracks. Add that to the fact that he signed to Jive for multiple albums, and he is essential the biggest singing ever for a debut artist. They might spread him out too much and just make great albums, not classics.
1.5 million upfront (not an advance) for an unproven talent, that shit is fucking insane, way more than 50 Cent got. That is almost more than what Arcade Fire (a rock group that sparked a ridiculous bidding war a couple years ago). Probably more than Game got for going to Geffen. Defintely more than one million advance Mobb Depp got for signing to G-Unit. I wonder how Prodigy worked that debt off. Jive has big plans for Papoose.

i’ve done too much shit in the past to ever go into politics. the media would have a field day with my campaign. nah, at one point i thought i wanted to be an attorney. i’m still leaning that way but there is so much other shit out there that i have a hard time settling on one career. most of the stuff i’m doing is stuff that i actually enjoy doing. not really trying to build up my resume. well except for moot court, that’s a resume booster.

moot court is sort of like mock trial. the only difference is that with mock trial, everything is on the trial level so usually there’s a mock jury, etc. a moot court competition involves arguing before appellate court judges. no jury and you’re either trying to have a judgment overturned or arguing to keep the judgment from being overturned.

this is my first time trying out for moot court. i’m good at oral advocacy though. i tried out for mock trial and made it last year. mock trial is where the wild cases come in. i.e.–the case i tried out with involved a murder involving giving someone an overdose of X at a halloween party. the moot court case i have is not as interesting. plus moot court involves writing 30 page fuckin briefs. not fun. mock trial involves writing a closing (1 or 2 pages), an opening (1 or 2 pages), couple of witness questions.

We all know Jays quoted alot of rappers rhymes. Big, Pac, Snoop, Nas. Just listen to that 7 minute swagger jacking tape. At the end of the day, Jay simply quoted them to show his respect. So it is what it is, but to sit there and say jay somehow came up with rhymes that were almost word for word compared to some other rappers would be pointless. Some of you young people are truly disgusting. All this talk about how old cats need to make way for younger acts; and I do emphasize ACTS! Firstly, none of these young artist can carry some type of torch. Hip Hop is in a terrible state. This bullshit music we hear is even more proof positive when we are happy with Lupe. He’s okay, but he would have been just another rapper in the golden era. Don’t act like the older cats are not making better music; even today!
