Daily Headlines 8-2-06
Star suing City Councilman for defamation.
T.I. to star opposite Denzel and Russell Crowe in American Gangster, which will be directed by Ridley Scott. That is a huge look for Tip.
Kay Slay is still mad because Fresh said him and Buffie look like a "match made in welfare fraud heaven." Well in all fairness, ya’ll do. I love how artists like to proclaim how inconsequential the things bloggers write are, but then talk about the blogger for two paragraphs in an interview.
‘Gangster rap’ will get no love at the planned Bronx hip hop museum.
Crackheads Gone Wild: The Mixtape hosted by DMX (I’m kidding but can’t you see it?)
I’m still trying to figure out who this guy looks like now. Help me out.
Snoop hangs out with Tony Blair. An ‘onlooker’ wonders if the Prime Minister doesn’t have better things to do than hang around with a ‘convicted rapper.’ I wonder if Snoop doesn’t have better things to do than hang out with an accomplice to war crimes.
What will life after Castro be like?

August 2nd, 2006 at 10:18 am
T.I. is obviously catching the acting bug (like most singers and rappers), but not all of them are that good? T.I. was ayt in ATL, but that wasn’t a stretch for him though. Let’s see how he does playing a role outside of the box??

How can it be a HIP HOP museum and exclude “gangsta rap” (a term created by the media and not HIP HOP) but anyway…. does that mean you exclude N.W.A, Cube, Ice T…..if its a HIP HOP museum it should cover everything relevant to the history of hip hop
August 2nd, 2006 at 11:19 am
i’m wonderin who they are going to represent in the hip hop museum. the article says that they don’t want to include anything controversial and that they want to “distance themselves from modern-day hip-hop culture, which they say has become tarnished by turf wars and lyrics which promote misogyny and violence.” i mean damn that excludes a whole lot of people.

Props to T.I. for snaggin’ the role… but I really don’t wanna see him opposite Denzel (fuck Russell… he got on MTV and whined about nobody liking his shitty video… Gladiator was the shit though). I see what Samuel meant (even though irony reared its ugly head and he’s now doing a movie with 50… funny). It’s so many starving, young actors who aren’t gettin’ passed on opportunities because distributors just want big names on the acting credits. Acting is an art just like MC’ing. But MC’ing hasn’t been taken seriously and you can see the current state we’re in. Acting is headed in that same direction.
Lol @ Kayslay soundin’ heated about a blog entry. Yo, you gettin’ papes and poundin’ out Buffy… why would you give a fuck?
Everybody’s definition of gangsta rap varies, therefore I don’t know what margin they’re gonna use to decide what gets included in the museum and what gets excluded. It’s like having a museum about slavery but not including the facts of some of the slaves who didn’t act accordingly with the movement.
All I got to say is that I should kick myself in the ass for not following through with the crackheads/dope fiends dvd. I guess that’s another idea I can count as a loss.
Yall mean to tell me that’s not Ludacris?

thats my problem with it. i mean how can you have a hip-hop musuem and not include N.W.A. i mean i can understand they dont want to spend taxpayers money on certain things but without N.W.A. hip-hop is not in the position it is now in to even be speaking on weather you should have a musuem for it or not. the other problem is these people only see and hear the negative words used by these groups and sometimes unfortunitly miss the message that is trying to be sent. FUCK THE POLICE wasnt just a record against authority it was a message being sent to the ones abusing their authority and that shit was just as important as anything else in hip-hop and shit the rock and roll musuem is full of motherfucking junkies what you can die from drugs and sing all about drugs but god forbid blkack people talk about the violence in their community.
and shit so does this mean yes or no to pac getting in? explain to me how it would be possible to have a hip-hop musuem without PAC and explain to me how you could exclude others and not pac ????

^ Shanti… that’s like me being casted for The Wire as a smart-mouthed, around-the-way, B’more dude. Wow. What a stretch. Cam was not ACTING in Paid In Full. DMX was not ACTING in Belly. I took Acting in college to fulfill my Fine Arts credit and after that, I looked at it differently. I almost considered takin’ small roles due to the response my professor gave me (never followed through though). It’s just different when you experience how someone has to prepare for something like that, something they’ve been wanting to do their whole life. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He’s not sprawled out across my desktop (anymore lol). Also my opinion is not biased because i’m from the south. i honestly liked his role in ATL and after I saw that movie I knew something even more major was about to happen with him and the film industry. I realize that his character in ATL was easy for him to portray though. Still, he had a lot of charisma on screen. Nas’ character in Belly should have been easy for him and uhhh…well I won’t start that argument again. Anyway pulling off a Harlem dialect is probably gonna be difficult for him. We’ll see. BTW, did you even see ATL?
August 2nd, 2006 at 11:52 am
I think I gotta agree with Billz though. Im not writing ti off but Mos and Will wanted to be actors BEFORE they wanted to be rappers and then they went back to it. Will had years of acting “like himself” on a sitcom to hone his skills. The best rapper- turned – actors. or anything – turned – actors tend to be the ones that choose low key roles and give themselves time to learn what their doing before they start trying to go toe to toe with effing Denzel and Russel ragin Crowe. As for Ti’s accent …white people wont be able to tell because they think all black people talk like that… ch- chyeahhhhhh…

I see what you’re saying but I feel like TI has potential. I’m just saying give him a chance. I love TIP though so my opinion is probably a lil biased. Will Smith was a rapper first too and look at him now.
will smith went to a performing arts school, a little different, but i am with you Shanti i am willing to give him a chance because i think mos def is a pretty decent actor and is getting better in every role that i see him in and probably wouldnt have had the chance if he wasnt a rapper
^^mos def last movie his actin was not believable. The whole changing of the voice was mad annoyin bcus he wasnt comfortable in his role.

Will and Mos are good actors in my opinion, but I think Queen Latifah is the most diverse, only because she’s a large female that has played all types of roles convincingly over her years. Will is still Will Smith in pretty much every role he plays. Mos has pushed the envelope a couple of times tho.

^theres only one problem with that idea. Orginality dos’nt exist because a mofo wont get not play putting out his own music with original concepts, so he follows the trend in whats hot. Dont get me wrong what you saying is logical, but the bullshit music your hearing today has already fastened its fiendish roots in the minds of the youth, with the help of radio programming, lewd videos, and a lack of ownership over the art form itself. Anything as huge as Hip Hop should have its own governing authority, a council if you will that would look after the interest of the culture as a whole.
^coldplay. i agree with everything you said except the idea of hiphop having a governing council. that’s the same shit that killed jazz. the reason i disagree is because it is against the nature of hiphop to have any kind of formal government. if it did, it would be followed by a coup immediately. hiphop is hiphop when it is a simple meritocracy – a style war that allows the cream to rise to the top. but the people determine who leads. rarely if ever has this failed to be correct. hiphop corrects itself naturally (snap music won’t be around next year, believe me) even when the corporate powers try and force some bullshit down our throat. we may disagree about who is the goat is but all the nominees are worthy. people should approach nahright in the same way. french kevin was obliterated because he was an ass with nothing to contribute and chockful of indefensible ideas. boosie, eskay, ill change and others peeped it and did him in. that’s how it should be with all of hiphop. everybody has equal opportunity to say their piece but if its wack best believe that shit will be swiss cheesed up. the problem with being a purist (and i accuse you of this in particular) is that you open the door to stagnation. putting up with the bullshit idiots post is a small price to pay for keeping hiphop relevant and up to date.

I saw Atl and the shit was a whole lot better than I expected it to be…including TI’s acting…that being said i dont think he’s talented enough to stomp wit a big dog like denzell…he can make someone look like an amatuer and that would reflect badly on all rapper/actors …i just hope he steps his game up…but sometimes a good director will limit the verbal interaction between the two characters to offset the difference in talent level….btw luda does look like lionel richie haha
August 2nd, 2006 at 12:10 pm
yea lionel richie too. but its like if TI is supposed to play this guy’s son then whats the point in putting him in the movie if he cant interact w/ Denzel? They gonna have a movie and he’s not around his son? what are they tryna say bout black fathers…that they have skinny children that have mysterious southern accents and they dont stay around em? I hate this movie the more i think about it.

^ I’m a ‘Ye fan and so far he hasn’t disappointed on any aspects of his career, whether it be his music, his movement, and even his antics (assholes respect other assholes, lol). Honestly, homie has pioneered the game of this generation. He was able to take regular social topics that most people can relate to, put them over retarded beats, and get the world to tune in. I understand many people might not like his style of clothing and his brash, abrasive tone. But I just see it as someone taking control of their destiny before allowing the media to dictate who and what he represents. All these other rappers talk that gangsta shit but he’s the first to tackle real issues on both albums and address George Bush in the open, not on a record. Most would say he’s a “safe Negro” because of his topics of choice. But the real “safe” ones are the rappers who neglect to address the issues that are relevant to us. Puttin’ your career on the line by addressing a public figure and possibly losing fans along the way while representing Black people = a REAL gangsta.

well, actually she blogs for XXL so he was mad at something she wrote on her XXL blog as opposed to her own blog. Not sure what difference that makes or what your point is though.
