     yeah, but those other artists don’t get as much promotion. Def Jam is a major player. Death Row fell off in `96. artists on Def Jam get way more marketing than most other labels aside from Interscope. you say that Jay represents real hip hop, so Jay listens to Lady Sovereign’s new single and say “it’s good, send it out to HipHipGame”, does that mean that that type of muzik is what he wants to hear when he turns on the radio or listens thru a “hip hop” album? if this is Jay’s case, then the rap game is in trouble. it doesn’t matter which label or CEO puts out garbage muzik, if they do, they are liable to get hated on. think of what would happen if no one said anything about Jay’s decisions on artists and singles - if his staff said “yeah, just put it out there” on everything he does, when does the bullshit get regulated? if no one says “Jay, seriously, this single is garbage, there’s no wordplay or substance”, then hip hop won’t be hip hop anymore. we already have enough pop artists, but i guess Jay is just on the bandwagon of “make money by putting out the hot garbage of the month.” if Jay and his Def Jam staff feel like they represent real hip hop (and i don’t understand how Jay could put out this type of shit after making one of the realest albums ever, Reasonable Doubt), then they need to start going in the opposite direction they’re headed.

     ^theres only one problem with that idea. Orginality dos’nt exist because a mofo wont get not play putting out his own music with original concepts, so he follows the trend in whats hot. Dont get me wrong what you saying is logical, but the bullshit music your hearing today has already fastened its fiendish roots in the minds of the youth, with the help of radio programming, lewd videos, and a lack of ownership over the art form itself. Anything as huge as Hip Hop should have its own governing authority, a council if you will that would look after the interest of the culture as a whole.

     ^coldplay. i agree with everything you said except the idea of hiphop having a governing council. that’s the same shit that killed jazz. the reason i disagree is because it is against the nature of hiphop to have any kind of formal government. if it did, it would be followed by a coup immediately. hiphop is hiphop when it is a simple meritocracy - a style war that allows the cream to rise to the top. but the people determine who leads. rarely if ever has this failed to be correct. hiphop corrects itself naturally (snap music won’t be around next year, believe me) even when the corporate powers try and force some bullshit down our throat. we may disagree about who is the goat is but all the nominees are worthy. people should approach nahright in the same way. french kevin was obliterated because he was an ass with nothing to contribute and chockful of indefensible ideas. boosie, eskay, ill change and others peeped it and did him in. that’s how it should be with all of hiphop. everybody has equal opportunity to say their piece but if its wack best believe that shit will be swiss cheesed up. the problem with being a purist (and i accuse you of this in particular) is that you open the door to stagnation. putting up with the bullshit idiots post is a small price to pay for keeping hiphop relevant and up to date.
