Snoop Interview @ Dubcnn
Dubcnn has part 1 of a new Snoop interview up. Normally I wouldn’t post this, because Snoop doesn’t usually have anything particularly interesting to say (although he has been talking a little greasier than normal lately), but there were a couple of things that grabbed my attention. For one, he mentions that he was recently talking to Nas about doing a movie:
I was holla’ing at Nas the other night. Me and him was just chopping game and I was like "You know what? Cuzz, look what’s happening right now. The West and the East, we ain’t even in the game right now!" He was like "Yeah." I was like "I don’t like it!" and he was like "I don’t like it either!" I’m like "So what you and me need to do is a muthafuckin’ movie, fuck a record! Let’s make us a movie to show two bad niggas from the East and the West, and that would definitely bring that shit back home where it needs to be."
Uhh, no it wouldn’t. First off, neither one of you characters can act your way out of an empty weed baggie. Second of all, what makes you think a movie, even if on the odd chance it comes out halfway decent, is gonna do what so many albums and rappers have tried to do and failed? And while we’re on the subject, what exactly does the act of bringing your region/city back entail? When and how do you know that your region/city is actually back? The reality is when a rapper says he wants to bring something back to somewhere, what he actually means is he wants people to start buying his albums again. Well, Snoop I love you, but your last album sucked, and the same goes for you Nasir. You guys are now over thinking this thing to the point where you’re holding yourselves back. I know it’s been said before, but just make dope music and stop worrying about where you rank on the food chain.
Sidenote: Snoop also announces that he will soon be appointed CEO of Koch West, which technically, doesn’t even exist yet.

Snoop and Nas doing a movie will only make the bootleggers Happy.Wont do a damn thing in the theatres if it could make it
July 26th, 2006 at 5:54 pm
When Belly meets Bones…wow what a movie that would be?..I can see the record breakin first week of the movie called “Weast”(west+east).
July 26th, 2006 at 5:58 pm
Koch is handing out executive positions like they are going out of business.
Uh oh.
July 26th, 2006 at 6:01 pm
snoop is irrelevant at this point
July 26th, 2006 at 6:02 pm
>>When Belly meets Bones
oh man, thats bad.
July 26th, 2006 at 6:11 pm
snoop is irrelevant at this point
snoop is still doing his thing and he got a album coming out called “blue carpet treatment” and dont forget they gave Snoop like 40 million a while back for his DoggHouse label so the nigga is still irrelevent softthug
July 26th, 2006 at 6:12 pm
When Belly meets Bones lmao! But that would be a very….nevermind
July 26th, 2006 at 6:15 pm

July 26th, 2006 at 6:31 pm
2much weed in these n**gaz brain. Snoop need to stick commercials and nas need to stick wit being jay porter.
July 26th, 2006 at 6:37 pm
The West and the East, we ain’t even in the game right now!” He was like “Yeah.” I was like “I don’t like it!” and he was like “I don’t like it either!”
whatup with snoop and nas subliminal diss the south? nah just kiddin.
July 26th, 2006 at 6:37 pm
Snoop and Tha Dogg Pound have had their run, so he should bow out gracefully before he’s pushed out? I would suggest that he snatch up Ras Kass, but I heard he’s considering going to G-Unit, so that’s probably out? I’d like to see Rage do something though. True female MCs are limited in 2006!
July 26th, 2006 at 6:39 pm
orbit!
July 26th, 2006 at 6:40 pm

whatup with snoop and nas subliminal diss the south? nah just kiddin.
^^i knew it was coming.
from the interview:
But imagine if I had 40-50 rappers always popping up on TV, videos, movies… Like that South shit right now, in Atlanta. You got so much shit coming out, that even the bullshit is getting play. You understand? Just because it’s from that area! Alot of good shit that they making too, but alot of that bullshit gets play, and they wouldn’t even give a nigga from the West an
opportunity.
so it seems like snoop, like countless others hates snap music and also like countless others is pouting because his region is not on top

i would consider going to see a movie starring nas and snoop.as long as nas character is def and snoop doesnt have scenes with him walking around with a wife beater on trying to look tough.
July 26th, 2006 at 6:40 pm
and it’s hard to be a human being
and it’s harder than anything else
and i’m lonesome when you’re around
but i’m never lonesome when i’m by myself
July 26th, 2006 at 6:43 pm
I thought DMX & Nas were getting ready to start filiming pt. 2 of Belly, which will be called, “Beast?”
July 26th, 2006 at 6:44 pm
I noticed snoop has been talking greasy lately too eskay..
its only funny cause there was a point (after he beat his case)
where he said he was done trying to portray a tough guy or a gangsta.. hence “snoop upside your head”
I guess thats not working any more so he is giving up and being tough again..
crazy..
July 26th, 2006 at 6:44 pm
DMX got issues (serious ones)
July 26th, 2006 at 6:47 pm

Nas lost
July 26th, 2006 at 6:53 pm
Snoop needs to go back and sing with the Pussycat Dolls, fuckin’ faggot!
July 26th, 2006 at 6:54 pm
Nas is the biggest bitch i ever seen.I mean he must of really been broke to sign with Jigga and now to see his album get put on the back burner for Jay-Z’s old retired ass to come out first
July 26th, 2006 at 6:54 pm
if you see Biggums show him this:
“Also they also said 50 wants to see what is up with Joe Buddens situation with Def Jam, said 50 really never had much of a beef with Budden and that he likes and respects Buddens music. Under the right situation Budden could still blown up on G-Unit records.”

July 26th, 2006 at 7:00 pm
Ruth Bader Ginsburg couldn’t have dropped a better opinion that what Eskay just wrote after Snoop’s bullshit.
I’ve lost so much respect for that fool over the years; summed up into don’t get mad at other regions because people weren’t feeling “Cali iz Active” the way you felt they should have.
That nigga came Down South for 5 years, if we all remember, to learn how to do things in the business seeing how everyone fucked him over out West; if all he left The South with was jealousy, ignorance, and no plan to save the shitty albums Eskay pointed out that he’s had since his return to the West Coast, that’s his problem, not some other region’s to where you have to reach out to MC’s who have had much more success than you over the last 5 years…
On top of that, Snoop is from Louisiana before he moved to Cali, so please stop the Southern subliminals, and on top of that, please find something to eat with your malnourished ass…
Then Nas is considering this shit too? NAS?! My God, this is why I’m not really fucking with Hip-Hop like that anymore. If a smooth Jazz guitarist from Cali isn’t selling but one from Chicago is, you just don’t see the type of blame game you see in Hip-Hop. I’m buying Idlewood and unless Nas agrees to some more stupid shit, his album, and I think I’ll retire from what Hip-Hop has become. Sigh…
July 26th, 2006 at 7:05 pm
@Phil - HipHop is still alive and well on the underground tip, it’s the mainstream that is self-destructing?

i wish SOMEBODY would put a damn buddens record out. at this point, he could sign with so so def for all i care.
as for snoop, if you read the whole article, snoop looks like he’s dedicated to bringing the west back to the spotlight. it’ll probably take a few koch releases for some of these cats to get back up to their former bargaining power, but if snoop can get a few dudes to sell 50-100,000 through koch without any real radio/video play, the majors will come hollering…
July 26th, 2006 at 7:09 pm

July 26th, 2006 at 8:01 pm
i think the reason a lot of southern artists aren’t responding when people are “supposedly” dissing the south is because many of the good southern artists realize that people are dissing snap and not really the south as a whole. shit they probably don’t like snap themselves but don’t want to say the shit because southern artists realize that solidarity is needed.
July 26th, 2006 at 8:03 pm
I”m feeling Da Backwudz from the south right now. That album is pretty good, but they don’t really feel south. They sample a lot, and have some deep songs like “Feeling Lonely”. They aren’t the only ones I’m feeling from the south right now, just the ones that probably are not getting the exposure they deserve.
Hey, Dipset needs to listen to Pharrell’s new album. Everybody who justifies Dipset’s gayness because they make great beats just listen to what the Neptunes do in their sleep. “Show You How to Hustle” in particular. Why was this not a hip-hop only album, the R&B songs are primarily shit. And the good ones like “Angel” & “Young Girl” could have been fitted on their next N.E.R.D. album.
Also, if you check the credits, it says Pusha-T appeared courtesy of Star Trak Ent. Is it possible that Clipse is signed up to Jive, but solo they are each still signed to Star Trak. The legal shit Clipse is in is fucking confusing. Two solo artists in a rap group which is then part of another rap group, with three different labels involved.

Es, that’s an ill concept, if Nas and Snoop (regardless of sub-par acting) made a movie, you’d go out (download it bootleg) and see that.
I’m not for what Snoop’s been putting out lately (Pharrell, Justin Timberlake, Pharrell, Pussy Cat Dolls, Pharrell, Mashonda… and more Pharrell), but movies with rappers (if they can act or not) are always entertaining.
The only rappers who could be serious and play something other than themself on camera were DMX and Cube though.

First off, fuck the police.
Snoop and Nas in a movie together… fantastic. Now we get to see 2 non-charismatic mofos exchange dialect for a good hour and a half or more.
If you’re attempting to use a movie to bring back relevance to MUSIC, then you’ve already lost. Me and some teenage white girl from Burbank are probably the ones who thought Rhythm and Gangsta was decent, but it damn sure wasn’t Deep Cover snoop.
nBmore… Nobody complained about Kid N Play making party music because of one major factor: THEY WERE NICE. If you sit down and disect their songs you will see that they damn near came off flawless with their call and response records that got major push. Same goes for Heavy D. I know I keep using the Overweight Lova for an example, but I sincerely believe he doesn’t get the respect he deserves as an artist who help pioneered respectable, mainstream music. Songs like I Need Somebody, I Got Nothin’ But Love, Black Coffee, Overweight Lover In the House, Is It Good To You, and a few others that I missed all topped the charts during his reign. But more importantly, they were respectable songs with integrity. I had to sound like a repetitive stan, but just like Joe said, “just about anything you can dance to it”. So why should the caliber of music change simply because people wanna make a dollar off somethin’ that is arguably awful? Snap music will be forgotten about by next summer but Hev’s singles and more importantly his albums were classics because there was a variety of material. And I think that’s the major gripe that most people have with the Snap culture. Even the artists from the Southern area who might actually have somethin’ more profound to say than “watch your face beat up my hands” despise the fact it’s a monopoly with no variety. Everybody comes with the same redundant arguement about the East/West having their turn but people are missing the point. The point is that when the East/West were on top there were MORE options available. You could bump Big, Pac, Snoop, Pharcyde, ATCQ, Nas, Dog Pound, and many others that made DIFFERENT music from DIFFERENT perspectives. I think that fact that our only options are Snap, Crunk, and Crunk + B is shameful and that a rebirth is due at any time.
July 26th, 2006 at 9:19 pm
Damn you act like two niggas chopping it up in the corner of some club drunk and high about some movie they should do is enough to run with, like they was trying to secure a budget are halfway through the script. Stop running with shit giving these idiots reasons to come at Nas.

^ That was the scene where I was like, “wtf?” He was supposed to be the most convincing and it didn’t come off right at all.
For instance, Bluff Daddy, IMO, ruined Raisin in the Sun for me when I went to go see it in Manhattan back in ‘04. The part where he was supposed to be the most convincing (when he broke down after gambling away his father’s money) was HORRIBLE. I almost wanted to laugh. There were so many starving young actors out there who coulda did a 200% better job and he selfishly took the role. It was Sanaa Lathan… Phylicia Rashad… and then… Puffy? He fucked that up.

ill, belly had excellent intentions and some beautiful moments but overall failed on a number of levels. the jamaican club scene was one of the first times hollywood ever got that vibe close to right and the fact that they went from jamaica to new york to some west bubbafuck town was on point. but the acting (particular t-boz and that other chick) was atrocious, the film lost direction after a pretty good set-up and nas was really not the cat to play the narrator. the end was a real let down (this comin from somebody who really did go to africa) and overall its ambitions outstripped its execution. i like belly but can’t call it a classic. but i love that they filmed the last third of one love. the crime in that scene was that they didn’t film it like nas said it:
sat back like the mack, my army suit was black
we was chillin’ on these benches where he pumped his loose cracks
i took the L when he passed it, this little bastard
keeps me blasted he starts talking mad shit
i had to school him, told him don’t let niggaz fool him
‘cos when the pistol blows [] the one that’s murdered be the cool one
tough luck when niggaz are struck, families fucked up
could’ve caught your man, but didn’t look when you bucked up
mistakes happen, so take heed never bust up
in a crowd catch him solo, make the right man bleed
shorty’s laugh was cold blooded as he spoke so foul
only twelve trying to tell me that he liked my style
then i rose, wiping the blunts ash from my clothes
then froze only the blow the herb smoke through my nose
it was a crime they didn’t film exactly like that. they approximated it *smh* missed opportunity just like the whole movie.

^i understand that (as you see in my prior post) and i hate to get into this with you but nas did not have the acting chops to pull it off. look at goodfellas or any other flick with narration. that is not easy. it would be one thing if nas was rhymin throughout or some shit. he monotones the whole shit. but i know this is a dead argument because you can’t really hear any critique of nas no matter how valid.

@ ILL
i just expected his ass to have some emotion. a scream or two, yeah maybe that would’ve helped him portray the situation a little better. i’m not saying i wanted him to be the wild one, i know that was DMX’s job. but damn, he had the same expression, tone of voice, etc. throughout the whole movie. all kinds of shit happening, the nigga gets shot and with his acting he might as well have been sleepin or something because that was the kind of emotion he put out there.
