First of all, lets get this straight… if we’re makin’ the word “nigga” relevant within the Black culture then PR, DR, Cuba, Brazil, and many other Spanish speakin’ countries all have Black people. But you have a few European Spainiards who feel comfortable enough to say it just because they grew up under the same nationality. J. Lo caught flack because she’s a mainstream PR with European features and she’s a “safe” Hispanic (spic in their eyes). Meanwhile, Fat Joe, Pun, Beatnuts, etc. have all said the word but no one acknowledges it because they are still considered your average PR, DR, Cuban, etc. from their respective hoods. And most Blacks still consider them “niggas” (whatever that means to YOU) in their eyes. Mainly because they stem from islands with African roots and have prevalent African features.
Put it this way, if Bryant Gumbel said nigga, America would be still be shocked because he is “accepted”.
