Well it doesn’t look like anyone can tell you otherwise, nbmore. You’re entitled to your opinion anyways. But me personally, I have more respect for artists that are still in it for the art. I mean of course you have to make money at the same time, to put food on your plate. But I appreciate the artist that can balance the two, the type of artist that can really have dignity & integrity at the end of the day (musically). I’m sick of dudes comin’ in the game, doin’ whatever it takes to sell records, even if it means recording the sound of burning garbage. Where the fuck are those dudes gonna be 5 years into the game? 10 years? Not knockin’ “dumbed down” rap music, it’s not all bad. But there’s such thing as makin’ classic, timeless music that’ll get you paid and still get you respect by most hip hop heads when it’s all said and done.
True, you’ve got cats that do big things in this game then become forgotten as the generation passes, where the youngins are like “fuck that dude, all old and shit…I don’t give a fuck about them pioneers of rap.” But musically who lasts longer, the dude that lasts a few summers with a couple of hot ass-shakin’ joints, or the dude that makes hip hop classics? I mean I’m speakin’ generally, but you see where I’m goin’. 9 times outta 10, artists “only about their paper” with no respect for anything else will last about as long as a fad, or whatever gimmick they brought to the table.
