Jay-Z Takes My Advice
Today it was announced that, moving forward, Cristal will no longer be served in either of the two 40/40 Club locations. I think it’s pretty obvious that Jay saw my post from last week and ran with my idea. It’s common knowledge that these superstar/high power executive types steal all their ideas from the little guy and then claim all the glory.
Jay-Z Responds to Comments From Champagne Brand Director
NEW YORK, June 14 /PRNewswire/ — In response to comments made by Frederic Rouzaud, the managing director of Louis Roderer Cristal, Jay-Z and his upscale sports lounge, The 40/40 Club, have announced that they will no longer be serving Cristal Champagne and Jay-Z will further help lead the boycott against Cristal Champagne in the world of hip-hop.
Despite loyal patronage by Jay-Z, his clientele, and the entire hip-hop community, Rouzaud said in a special edition of The Economist magazine that the company observes its association with the rap world with "curiosity and serenity." Even though Jay and other rappers continually support the brand by including Cristal in their lyrics, as Jay did in his number 1 hit "Hard Knock Life," Rouzaud has labeled the name-checks as "unwelcome attention."
"It has come to my attention that the managing director of Cristal, Frederic Rouzaud views the ‘hip-hop’ culture as "unwelcome attention." I view his comments as racist and will no longer support any of his products through any of my various brands including The 40/40 Club nor in my personal life," said Jay-Z.
This move was pretty much mandatory, especially from this guy, considering the amount of this stuff he’s responsible for selling over the past 10 years. At the end of the press release it says he’s available for interviews on the subject, so I emailed the PR dude because I have some questions. For instance: How do you jack my idea and not even mention Nah Right in the press release?

I don’t know… No executive makes a statement like that by accident, but I have a hard time wrapping my mind around this as a strategic move. it just doesn’t make sense to alienate anybody who’s buying your product, and providing endless free advertising. Unless by doing so you’re gonna attract new customers in droves to replace those you lost. Somehow I doubt Cristal’s sales are going to explode all of a sudden with old stuffy white people, but I guess we’ll see.

I would love to see next months sale for Cristal. Definitly keeping an eye on that. Cause when word gets out to all the clubs for the reason Jay is boycotting Cristal, then all clubs will follow suit, and all of their customers will follow suit. Jay is one of the top five most influential people in the entertainment business, maybe the single most influential. There will be a substantial effect on the Cristal business.

Cristal should of had someone retract Rouzaud’s statement, but now it’s too late. Because if they retract now, it’s like they’re trying to get the business back from the same people they insulted.

the only justification i could come up with on why Crystal made these comments ( like you said eskay it seem so odd) is that maybe that they see the product’s continuing association with the hip hop urban culture (black folks) will degrade the high end luxurious appeal of the product. Its becoming more common now for regular people who don’t have big cash to buy a bottle Cristal at the club and such. Eventually it will no longer be viewed as a symbol of wealth because the people drinking it are not rich or famous. In laments term Crystal would be played out and high society folks wont want to drink and then regular ppl wont also because they’ll imitate the rich. You got to keep in mind that part of the appeal of crystal is that its so expensive that drinking it means that your wealthy and elite. once it looses that aura its just another alcohol beverage. And you can compare this to how Mercedes only builds a limited amount of Mclarens and purposely making it available for a select few. same thing with lamborghinis. That’s the only reason i can think of why they say something that’s obviously going to alienate a market, and the reason is because they wanted to do that.

It is only natural that Jay do this. When Jay told niggas to button-up I swear to God the next week every thug in the world was wearing them striped button downs. Why does it always have to be about race or raciest? I don’t think it has anything to do with being black or not. I don’t think the Cristal maker/owner hates black people or rappers.
It seems like its more about getting a bad reputation from the people that make songs about bitches & ho’s, being a player, being a thug. Cristal is expensive, they want to have a classy rep. and they feel the rap community may cause a negative reflection on their brand. I don’t think he’s saying rappers can’t/shouldn’t drink it.

Well the guy who made that statement regarding the Cristal Brand is the majority stockholder-in many ways he doesn’t need permission. His family invented it for some Louis the King type figure. It’s like Walmart-privately owned and operated and it stays in the family. They actually discontinued making it in the early 1900’s ( 1917-I think) and then began to remake it again in the 1940’s. The companies sales took in huge profits late 90’s and early 00’s ( in accordance to the name dropping of its brand by rappers etc..-which places 8th in the hiphop lyrics and brand promo correlation). Just thought you all should know =)
