Thought’s on Dame
Interesting piece on Dame. I’d like to see an article of that length written from Jay’s Perspective…I know he had the article in XXL mag, a couple of issues back, but it was really brief compared to this one on Dame ( http://xxlmag.com/Features/2005/aug/jay-z/index.html ).
Where I understand the way Dame feels about the split and their relationship being more than business (no cam). In the previous XXL article Jay kinda won me over…all he wanted was his masters from “Reasonable Doubt”, the lowest selling album of his collection (as far as annual units sold.). In return he would turn-down the job at defjam and all the other masters for his other albums…Dame & Biggs didn’t wanna deal..or atleast Biggs didn’t, and convinced Dame that they all played apart in the making of that album, and should share it’s legacy…they may have helped…but those are Jay’s trials and tribulations recorded on disc, not theirs. They should have gave up the masters…thats something that Jay could pass on to his kid as inspiration to be the next Jay-Z.
But the author was right…neither one will be the same, without the other. I hope they can work something out in the future.
Nebody know when Dame’s sneaker line is coming out…I might cop some pro-keds that smell like watermelon…brings me back to the days when shoes were a way of life.

I don’t wanna blame the shooting on hip-hop because what dude did was pure negligence. But it was Dipset… I hold them accountable for a lot of fucked up things in the youth today, seriously.

^He said it himself. And that, my friends, is why I say, “Fuck Dash”. All of yall that ever debated why he shouldn’t have gotten to be exec at Def Jam or MAYBE why his relationship with Jay is sour, is for the sole purpose alone. Yeah, Jay took a desk job but didn’t forget about the core reason why he ever got into the game: love of hip hop. That’s why he signed the Roots, that’s why he co-exec’ed Lupe’s album, and that’s why Kanye stayed with the Roc. It’s bigger than money. But Dame obviously doesn’t see it that way. Judging from the article, it seems he hates Mondays because he doesn’t have his reliable money maker (Jay) around so that he can milk him for more and more dollars. He’s a good business man but he needs to put business and his ego aside if he intends to keep amends with people. It seems both (Jay and Dash) started out just wantin’ to make money. But one had a vision to just keep “gettin’ dat money”, while the other realized the culture is strugglin’ and wanted to do something different. He admits that he didn’t even have an ear for music and that Clark Kent was the reason for them meeting in the first place (we all know that story though). That nigga sounded bored, talkin’ about doing songs with models (Carmen Electra). LOL.
Tarver got the well-deserved brakes beat off of him (so I heard). So now B-Hop can laugh in his rockin’ chair.

Look at the state of hip hop: shambles. Yeah, Jay signed Rick and Jeezy to keep the label owners from breathing down his neck. But do you think Dame would have ever approved of a Lupe co-sign? Or gave a the Roots a fair chance to make better albums? Yes, Dame is a visionary and honestly, I held him in high regards when hip hop was mentioned. But just like you said we don’t see the behind the scenes stuff, I can agree. Obviously we didn’t know about his forte for just wantin’ to make more and more money. Signing one of your homeboys (Cam) to an exec position while you’re vacating? That’s some crab shit chief. And if you want to base it just on album sales and money made, LL woulda been a Def Jam label head a long time ago. I don’t think Jay forgets about people. I just think Dash believes that everyone owes him somethin’. I just think these guys have two different motives.

To me Dame is a slave owner, and he seems like a shady businessman. He is not someone who I would want to work for,so I look at it from that perspective.
