I went to last years’ concert with MF DOOM, DE LA and ROOTS. This joint looks like it was pretty dope.

Speaking of dope… The best part of the show last year was that white dudes were lighting me up for no money down. Black and Spanish cats are way too squirrely with their choke to be on that type vibe.

White dudes know their shit is lethal so when they pass to you for a hit they ask you if your’e sure. It’s like you don’t want to be responsible for somebody getting turned out by the chronic.

To all,

Thanks for the criticism and the praise, We deserve both. The part 3 skit was not our finest hour technically but it came out ok. The comments went from wack when I pressed the submit button by accident, to that was short and random. I had not yet realized the first part wasnt moderated yet so I was baffled why some people kept pointing out the credits part. The reason why It didnt come out in all in one part cause I copied and pasted part of it and like I said earlier had a bad technicality day, even with eskayâ€™s supposed pics.

To those who ask why they werenâ€™t in it or why they got demoted to a certain position, I have this to say: Our team cant fit you into the story line if you are not dynamic. If you dont put personality into your posts then its hard to incorporate you into the skit. If you post like once every two weeks then its difficult to insert you where your part is funny.

Part 4 is finished and will be dropping next week. Please dont get your hopes up or expect it to be as funny as the third one. But We hope it wont dissapoint. Feel free to comment on the skits as you wish, harsh criticism will be well taken. Thanks.

In other words, you would allow some knucklehead, who by the way is in a gang with the rest of our copycat youth following suit, to make the decisions and mandate creative control. Just look at Diplomat Records? Would you have that roster signed to your label? Hell no. If we’re going to point the finger then lets hold both people accountable. Dame was turning into the other Harlemite mogul that I despised (Bluffy) because he wanted to be famous. He was signing singers from washed up pop groups (the Black spice girl) and giving album deals to drug fiends who can barely off the dope long enough to do a song (ODB, R.I.P.). I’m not saying that all of Jay’s decisions have been great ones but (Lady So-boring, Terror Marie) but I think it was time for a change. See, there’s a fine line of being progressive and being a sell-out. There’s a new wave of MC’s coming out of the East Coast (Pap, Tru Life, Saigon, Stimuli, etc.) and Lupe out of the Midwest who can bring forth the lyrical dominance we need in the game. Dame was attempting to uphold an image for a label that was not only hurting the team, but embarrassing the craft as well. And to this day no one still hasn’t answered this question: If Dame’s business practices are so great, why aren’t people rushing to sign with DDMG? If he’s such an honorable dude in the hood then shouldn’t there be more people willing to put their careers in his hands such as Jay did?

Like I said El, I understand where you’re coming from but I believe it’s more that went on behind the scenes that we don’t know about that could explain this more in-depth.

It’s not my personal opinion, but I think people look at him now as in “he lost” in that whole situation…just because Jay Z is who he is (image wise), etc, etc….

^ You know, there’s a lot to be said about your statement. For one, you make a thorough point because we as a people don’t have anyone speakin’ up for our culture that’s prevalent in hip hop. The Commons, dead prezs’, Talibs, and Mos Defs can only do but so much because they aren’t supported by the machine. But you also must realize that Jay became successful even while buckin’ the system or status quo around ‘95 - ‘96. He was able to straddle the line of being street and commercial without swaying too far to either side to lose his core audience and to sell records. Hypothetically, if Jay woulda continued his Reasonable Doubt streak I doubt he woulda been as successful. And once you’re not as successful, who’s gonna hear you or know that you exist? Unfortunately, this has been the demise of cats like Talib and Mos because they always had great things to say but never the appeal to the masses. And trust me, that’s just how the machine likes it. The last thing they want is for our youth to be educated, informed, and inspired. That’s why the status of sellin’ records, from gold being good to platinum, has changed. Back then, you could “keep it real” (mid 90’s rhetoric) and have success and respect amongst your peers and fans. But since the new millenium they (the corporate structure) raised the status quo and Jay has chased and exceeded it ever year. But unfortunately, they expect every other artist to follow suit instead of just lettin’ them be themselves. Remember the Change Clothes video? Remember the cameo appearance made by Mos Def? Now, would a revolutionary like Mos be caught dead in someone’s video that he didn’t respect as a man and artist? El, you might disagree with me, but Kanye was “recruited” to be the revolutionary for his label. Why? Because he has the “good guy” appeal yet bucks the system more than any other rapper. Who else do you know has openly got on a platform and spoke against Bush? Don’t you find it weird that Jay-Z “all of a sudden” ended up on songs with dead prez? Or that he makes Common references in rhymes? Or that he signed The Roots to Def Jam, a group that has great music but struggled to even go gold? Jay plays his part the best way he can be can’t save everybody. Instead of complaining, we should support more artists like Mos, Talib, Lupe, dead prez, Immortal Technique, and those alike. We need to make the change as consumers and more importantly as men. We’re too busy looking for leaders in the masses instead of looking in the mirror. Like I said, I agree with you that I wish he more of a Malcolm than a Martin, but we only base that on his success financially. If you exclude money, those other MC’s aformentioned achieved that over and over yet we neglect them. There’s a new breed of MC’s coming forth with something to say and now’s the time to support the cause that YOU want.

T. Okes… Thanks. But to be honest, I don’t think hip hop will die chief. I just think it’s the process of evolution and eventually everything comes back full cirlce (that sounded very 5 Percentish). You gotta remember, hip hop was just born back in ‘79. The art form is only 29 years ago. Just think about rock n’ roll. It’s been around since probably the 40’s and has seen it’s fair share of lumps and bruises. I used rock music as a comparison because it likens rap more than any other genre. Now you have groups like Maroon 5, Linkin Park, Incubus, Coldplay, Franz Ferdinand, and host of others that make great music. Sometimes it takes a repetition of failure (DFB, D4L, Joc, etc) for people to wake up realize why rap started and what it’s about. Yes, the music can be fun and entertaining but it must be don’t intelligently so that the craft doesn’t get dumbed down for any Joe Schmoe to pick up a microphone. Many people danced to Heavy D records, but not many during his era could emulate him or was anywhere near articulate, nah mean? Right now I just think we’re going through a bad transition and it seems hopeless. But as long as we continue to show support for those artists that are meaningful and substantial then the culture will last forever. Don’t blame the artists, blame the labels and consumer. We don’t have a right to tell any artist, no matter how much we think their music sucks, to stop makin’ music. That’s out of our hands. But we do have (I hate to reference this guy) the power of a dollar. The consumer is the reason for the turbulence. So we as consumers need to take charge and support the right ones.

With that being said, the plantation is shuttin’ down and massa is settin’ us free… holla at yall later.

I guess what I was saying with the Eric Sermon quote…is that if you feel like what’s selling right now isn’t hip hop.. keep doing you and stay true to who you are and you will be taken care of I mean I know underground rappers who make well over $200,000 a year… last time I checkd that’s not a bad salary.. you ain’t buying jets and million dollar homes.. but that’s a personal problem invest in some real estate.. start doing loans.. I don’t know but most of all stop complaining about the south… wanting to be a songwriter myself.. I personally think Ashanti sucks.. but If I had the oppurtunity to be performing somewhere her name would not be coming out of my mouth.. Her lack of creativity and singing ability..I mean we all feel that way about something.. it just ticked me off that RHYMEFEST.. is wasting his time talking bout maybe if I shake my laffy taffy or whatever the fuck he said. it’s just like yeah maybe so asshole.. but also maybe if you sepnd more time just doing you.. you wouldn’t have a problem.

HONESTLY I HAVENT GOTTEN REALLY INTO IT, CAUSE IM HOOKED ON BUSTA AND JUST RECOPPED MOMENT OF TURTH AND LIQUID SWORDS.

@D. Billz, I hear what you’re sayin’ bruh…again, real talk. I guess we kinda have different takes on the topic. I think I was leaning more towards the “roots” of hip hop rather than the bigger picture of the entire genre.

@WEST, like I said I see where you’re comin’ from homie. You know I wasn’t tryin’ to get at you like that. Most of what you said in both posts are things I’ve definitely learned front & center ever since the South started their whole ‘takeover’.
