I also tried googling for this “test” and found nothing. “Recent testing”. Even if it is true, it is asking people whether they are biased or not. Come the fuck on. Now on to the real meat of this question. Is there real hip-hop. Of course there fucking is. American music is divided up into three categories, all three connected. You have pop, rock, and rap. If you can imagine a triangle with a middle or maybe a Venns Diagram, I will try to explain to you how this works and keep it very simplified.. You have rock over in its corner, probably something like death metal or punk music because it is completely unique and shares no qualities with pop or rap. Over in Pop, you probably have some 1950′s type pop that has completely gone out of style, but is still completely unique. In the middle between rock and pop, you have something like slow rock or country music. In between rap and pop, you got all the stuff you guys know all about, Nelly, Luda, Kanye, etc. In between the rock and rap points, you have stuff like Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, that M.O.P. album. You know. Right in the middle, equidistant from all extremes, you have Nelly’s Ride Wit Me Remix. The John Mayer remix. Amazing song by the way. I told all that fucking stuff so you can’t visualize that fact that all three genres share and blend into one another, and that there are extremes where you can find unique elements. Now what is raps extreme, or “real hip-hop”. It is probably violent gangsta rap, like NWA or Geto Boys. Completely unique sonically and in content. Nothing in common with rock or pop. Not commerical in anyway. This backpacker who wrote this article needs to wake up and realize that there is an objective reality out there that doesn’t give a shit what he or anybody else thinks.

Every Nas LP is certified platinum, and not just worldwide platinum, but platinum in the US alone. It’s obvious it’ll help sales, but if you think Hip Hop is Dead wont do platinum without it, then you’d be mistaken.

If you think about it, the only hip hop that can be considered real, is the original hip hop, when cool herc and em was doing block parties and nothing else. They need to replace him (which won’t happen) or add someone else to the group. I think bringing the mid-90′s feel back is a good thing. The answer to that is if you know a whole lot about “Rockasâ€, not the shit these reggae dudes have been doing today, but real hardcore “Rockasâ€, those are the type of cadences they did. Also, if KRS One is one of your top ten then you know that in alot of his songs he embraced that genre of music from his genesis. The shit Cam is doing is just silly with no direction. And please, about Nelly, I’ve been guilty of this, but I will try and stop. We need to stop mentioning his name with KRS One’s name like they are some sort of equal. As for him wanting Nelly to surrender to some Hip Hop statures; well it is what it is. We as consumers to make these artist surrender to Hip Hop statures.

^^ Yeah, you can hear Barrington Levy and Mr. Vegas do it in their songs. Rockas is to reggae what “scatting” is to the blues. KRS did that in a lot of his songs. “A lee dee dee dee doddy dee dee doddy day” Come on man, act like you wasn’t feelin’ that! Everybody remembers that shit. Even Rihanna jacked it and put it on the hooks for one of her songs which came out nice. She’s West Indian so I didn’t mind her using it for a pop song because she know’s the origins of it. Plus the song is more like dancehall pop. A few examples can be heard on “Here Comes the Boom” w/ DMX feat. Barrington Levy, and both Shyne singles off the first album which also has Barrington Levy. Mad Lion used to do that too. Yall gotta be on your reggae shit to really comprehend.

KRS (and many others) explained Hip-Hop as a culture. Rap is the music that represents it. The real/fake Hip-Hop argument will never end. The way I separate shit is… G-Unit, Nelly, etc. is “pop” music. End of story.
