I am amazed at how ignorant 99% of the comments on this page are. Reading message after message filled with illiteration and profanity is proof enough of just what perpetuates the negative, streotypical imaging of people of color in america. Cristal, Moet, Hennessey and all the rest are drugs and vices. Why spend a dime of what you earn on such things as these? You would rather buy rims than a textbook, go clubbin’ than go to class, spend for today than save for tomorrow. Many of you vaccuum and wash your cars more than you do your floors at home. The most commonly heard voices among people of color are entertainers and athletes, it is your number one outlet for having a political voice at all. As sad as that may be, it is true. This is the one of the primary reasons whites are and will always be your superiors. Eventhough this does not apply to all blacks, it applies to enough of you that I speak without fear because you are largely too lazy to do anything about it. You will kill one another before you take any action whatsoever against someone like me. But do me this favor, keep buying the things we (whites) produce to enslave you, continue complaining about the system while getting your uneducated women pregnant, go to jail, pose and profile in front of your own people, (because we are not impressed by the stupid way you dress, your loud stereo or pimped out ride) and leave the rest of the world to us. As an African-American brother, I don’t understand why we always jump to the defense of hip-hop culture. What we need to do, is rid ourselves of this culture of corruption, materialism, and disrespect for our beautiful black sisters. If Mr. Cristal has problems with rappers drinking his drink, just for show, it stems not from a problem with hip-hop’s color, but from hip-hop’s shameful promotion of ignorance. We’ll never get respect from anyone if we strive to be thugs and womanizers. Fix that before anything else.

I know next to nothing about rap and hip hop (or much outside of how to make a nice cup of tea), but i have read the offending article, and it seems to me that any racism, implied or otherwise, cannot be attributed to Frederic Rouzaud. The Economist was clearly looking for a controversial comment, and well done to them, they got one. Indeed, it was the Economist that added the ‘unwelcome attention’ comment. Surely Jay-Z should be boycotting the Economist? Rouzaud makes wine in a tiny corner of France, that costs him a fortune to produce - of course he gets irritated at seeing it poured all over the floor in music videos! And, like me, he wouldn’t have a clue about the culture, the music - any of that. he just sees the efforts of generations of his family being poured on girls behinds. No doubt this will cause howls of derision, but it does seem a case of making a mountain out of a molehill…

well like I told homey in the other thread, I don’t know where ya’ll live but I know plenty of hood ass motherf*ckers who spend they money on Cristal. I’m sure you’ve seen ‘em too, the dudes in the club spending they whole check on a bottle just so they can look like ballers. the same dudes pulling up to the projects in a new hummer, you know the type. so if they can save 200 dollars by buying some Mo’ now instead of Cris, why shouldn’t they? if you ask me this definitley affects the hood.

In all honesty, I don’t know that the dude at Cristal is racist, I have no idea what goes on in his mind, but I take any attack or criticism on hip hop as a possible predjudice against black people. how can you not? I see no reason to give this dude the benefit of the doubt just because he didn’t say anything overtly racist. but regardless, you’re right, this may in fact not be a race issue, cuz it ain’t just black hip hop fans buying Cris. but it’s definitely a hip hop issue because he flagrantly put down our community.

Like I said in the post, this boycott was mandatory, especially from Jay because of all of the free promotion he gave them through the years, so I don’t think anybody is like “oh he took such a stand, what a great guy.” he had to do this, it was the only thing to do in a situation like this.

I don’t drink Cristal either, never have, but I care about this because I don’t want to see anybody who gives a shit about hip hop spending their money on it and I damn sure don’t want to see the company making even one dollar off of us moving forward.
