 header.jpg

One year ago this week I put up my first post on this site. To say that I had no idea what it would eventually grow into, would be a huge understatement. I had been meaning to register a domain name and setup a website for months and one day I just broke down and copped nahright.com and bought 3 months of hosting for like 10 dollars or something like that. I was the guy in my circle of friends who always had the hot new mixtape or the scoop on what was going on with our favorite rappers, so I figured this could be a place for those people to come and get their news and shit talk on.

We used to spend hours on my block having conversations (read: arguments) not unlike what goes down in the comments section now on a daily basis. That’s why I used that picture up there for my header image, it was a way of bringing the shit talk off the street and onto the internet where everybody could jump in and take part, regardless of age, color, or geographic location. In the last year I’ve met and interacted with so many interesting and smart people. I’ve learned things and hopefully I’ve helped people learn a thing or two themselves.

I’d like to thank all of the people all over the world who come here everyday and read what I have to say. I’d also like to thank all of the people who take the time to send me emails and leave comments thanking me for helping them get through their work day or putting them on to a new song by their favorite artist. Shout out to all of the incredible blogs that linked me and made my hits skyrocket. Props to all of the regular commenters who hold down the site for days on end, patiently waiting for my next post and showing love immediately after it’s been put up. Shout out to SOHH for believing in me and helping to launch my career as a semi-pro blogger. Props to XXL for also recognizing real and helping me get to the next step.

It’s been an incredible year and you can trust that I’ll do everything in my power to keep bringing it over the next 365 days. Thank you all.

In the upcoming July issue of FHM, Ice Cube shares his feelings on Oprah:

"For ‘Barbershop,’ she had Cedric the Entertainer and Eve on, but I wasn’t invited," says the 36-year-old rapper, referring to his 2002 movie. "Maybe she’s got a problem with hip-hop."

I would imagine this was before she admitted to
Ed Lover that she was a 50 Cent Stan.

FIFTY GETS BUFFED (nullus)

50 CENT was like a kid in a Candy Shop when offered a free beauty treatment in Cannes – and couldn’t wait to get his nails shaped and buffed. The bullet-riddled rapper, 30, was invited into the gift lounge at the exclusive Nikki Beach club.

"Fiddy knew exactly what he wanted and told the girl he often has a manicure," our source reveals.

Why do people still insist on calling him "Fiddy" and referring to him as bullet-riddled. Give it a rest.

Here’s Don’t Get Carried Away, the Busta/Nas collabo from The Big Bang. It’s DJ free, but the quality isn’t great. This is completely different from the version that was floating around earlier this month, and I don’t even mess with Busta like that but this shit is hot, and Nas kills his verse.

Here’s a radio rip that is alleged to be the song that Beanie is supposed to release this weekend that was recorded after his shooting.

More Details Emerge In Beanie Shooting

The Philadelphia Daily News reports some additional details about Beanie’s shooting:

Sigel, 32, whose real name is Dwight Grant, partied with pals at Z-Bar, a Northern Liberties nightclub, until 3:30 a.m. Thursday.

Police said Sigel then dropped two friends off in Southwest Philadelphia. As he made his way back to South Philly, Sigel said he looked in his rearview mirror and spotted a car that he thought was following him.

Sigel pulled over on Snyder Avenue near 25th Street and let the car pass him. He then started to follow the other car, which led him on a winding trip that ended when the car stopped near 22nd and McClellan streets, a block away from Sigel’s boyhood home, he said.

The rap artist, who has had several albums that have gone platinum, told police two men jumped out of the car, and one of them brandished a gun. Sigel got out of his white Chevrolet Impala and confronted the men.

Sigel, who launched his own clothing line called "State Property," could only sputter, "Know who I am?" when the two men made it clear that they planned to rob him.

A second car pulled up behind Sigel’s Impala, and two more men emerged, one with a gun. Sigel told police he handed over his prized watch and a platinum chain to the thugs, who nonetheless fired four shots as he scurried back to his car. One of the bullets struck him in the shoulder.

The article also says that although the police were initially skeptical of Beanie’s story, it now appears to check out, despite the fact that nobody who lives in the area heard gunshots and no shell casings were found near the alleged scene.

Beanie: I’m Cool

Thursday, May 25th, 2006

beanie_car.jpg

First off, Beanie Sigel drives a white Impala with no rims or tints? That’s gangster with an ‘a’ at the end.

SOHH just put up a piece in which an anonymous source (don’t you love those guys?) states that a shooting of Beanie Sigel in Philly at 8 in the morning is downright inconceivable, and alledges that the whole thing may have been a publicity stunt:

"Police do not believe that it was a robbery — it’s looking like a publicity stunt," the source told SOHH. "No way Beans gets robbed and only gets hit in the arm… Not in South Philly. He’s like the mayor around there. No one even heard any commotion, and believe me when I tell you South Philly blocks are small, tight and dense."

You know, my initial post about the incident from this morning is currently about 137 comments deep, and I could be wrong but I don’t think the possibility of this being a publicity stunt was raised even once. This is Beans we’re talking about for crying out loud! I also don’t know how much credence I would put in a source who uses the term "murked out" but I guess only time will tell.

Anyway, The Philadelphia Inquirer has a pic of Beans sitting in a car outside the hospital in a gown looking all gully with a blanket on his head talking to reporters.

When his car was just about to head down 34th Street, Sigel lowered his right backseat window and proclaimed "I’m shot. I got shot. I’m cool."

Moments later when the car was stopped at a red light, Sigel said to reporters, "Do you want to see it?" and pulled his hospital gown aside and showed a bandage on his left shoulder. His left arm was in a sling and his left hand was bloody.

I have no idea if this is authentic or not, but it looks like it could be. Also check out the alleged alternates.

Game theory is a branch of applied mathematics that studies strategic situations where players choose different actions in an attempt to maximize their returns. First developed as a tool for understanding economic behavior and then by the RAND Corporation to define nuclear strategies, game theory is now used in many diverse academic fields, ranging from biology and psychology to sociology and philosophy.

Beanie Sigel Shot

Thursday, May 25th, 2006

beans_1.jpg

Beanie Sigel was shot early this morning in a botched robbery attempt:

Police said shortly after 8:00 am, 5 men in two vehicles boxed the rapper in and that a man with a beard, jeans and boots open-fired on Sigel, striking him twice in the arm.

Sigel drove himself to a local hospital where he is being treated and expected to recover.

Damn it’s been a rough 12 months for Beans. I’m glad to hear he’ll be ok and I wish him a speedy recovery.
