Field Mob Cops A Plea

fieldmob.jpg

It has come to my attention that there is a brand new blog entry on Field Mob’s Myspace page in which they attempt to dismiss that video of them making fun of New York as "fake." The statement, presumably written by one of their publicists, can be read here.

The writer claims that the clips were taken from a Raw Report DVD Magazine and that the video currently making the rounds is somehow false, and a link to the actual footage is given.

Well, I watched the original video clip and there are in fact some differences. For one, when Smoke and Shawn J are doing their little New Yorker impersonations, text was placed over the scene that read: "Poking fun at NY slang! LMAO!!" In the original video, that text was not there.

Also, certain scenes were taken out of context such as the freestyle at the end, which was probably not directed at New Yorkers, although the editing gives that impression.

While this is all well and good, the claim that the original video is somehow "false" is absurd. Whether or not the video was edited does not change the fact that Field Mob made all of the statements we saw them make on the original. It’s not like the audio was changed to make them say something they didn’t say, all of it is authentic.

My big problem with that video isn’t the fact that they are making fun of New York slang, because honestly we make fun of Southerner’s slang all the time up here. My problem is with the statements made about the phrase "Let’s bring New York back."

For whatever reason, some people tend to interpret that statement as a subliminal shot at the South, which seems to me like a sign of insecurity. If ya’ll run shit the way you claim you do, why even worry about what others are saying? Is it that serious that you have to pick apart and analyze such an innocent statement in order to find an insult?

I mean I see ya’ll are running around showing an awful lot of pride in your region, but when we do the same it’s a problem? If so then that’s your own goddam problem, because I’ll tell you right now, our sense of pride isn’t going anywhere.

Truthfully, I would’ve respected Field Mob more if they would’ve just stood by their statements. If you’re gonna talk shit then talk it, but don’t try to cop plea after you see a backlash brewing. Talking about "Field Mob in no way has beef with anybody in NY." Yeah, whatever, you probably should of thought of that before you came out your face sideways.

Anyway, in the interest of improving East/South relations, I think we should all just forget about all of this nonsense. The truth is we’re arguing over shit that we will never agree on. New York will always feel it is the premier region in hip hop and so will the South. We should be spending this time and energy doing something constructive rather than bickering over greasy comments and creatively edited DVD’s.

thats exactly what i say. i used this same shit with the red sox fans years ago.
( i went to this little junior college up ther year for 2 years ) the red sox fans had so much hate and ill will towards the yankees it was ridiculous, they were always bugging out an dit seemed that they cared more that the yankees lose than that the red sox win. i always laughed at them no matte what they said cause i would say its hilarious how bent out of shape you guys get over us winning everything, i would then remind them yankee fans dont hate red sox fans cause they arent a threat to anything ( i mean i cant be mad at my favorite boxers punching bag can i ) sox fans hate us from years and years of us beating them, no matter what they say theycant touch our legacy ( i admit the last couple of years i grew some hate for them because a) they actually finally won something and b) i was in mass for 2 years and they have some of the dumbest and worst fans on earth ( notice some i know some real knowlegdable cats there but as a whole i hate the city of boston not just the sox )

this is the same shit the south has an inferiority complex ( as they should ) and they have to keep saying fuck ny fuck ny hoping that they can scream loud enough to get people to agree. but just like one championship by the sox cant possibly match the legacy that is the yankees, just like jeezy, t.i. and d4l cant possibly compare with the ny hip-hop legacy

How is the South on top? Just cuz they are all over the radio, meaning D4L and DFB… well, as far as I know, both of them have shitty ass sales. Even Tony Yayo outsold both of them together, but we consider that a FLOP, meanwhile the south is taking over? just cuz you have catchy club songs on the radio all day doesnt mean you run shit, specially if nobody buys your shit. D4L only sold like 250,000 copies(thats about how many clubs there is in America, lol)

Besides them, only Jeezy, Paul Waul, and like 1 or 2 more Southern rappers went platinum… Meanwhile 5-0 himself(I aint a big fan of his current music, just stating facts) outsold the whole southern area… BUT NY IS FALLING OFF.

Just cuz 80% of the succesful NY rappers didnt come out last year, doesnt mean we fell off. They will probably drop this yr. and let see if “we come back to life” cuz if that is the case, then y’all aint even born… Not tryin to be disrespectful, just sayin how I see it, I like some Southern shit.

P.S: I aint a Gunit fan, but Ill be honest, Id rather listen to that shit anyday before SNAP, which supposedly has the South on top.(not a good look)

  9. Urbonics CEO Says:

He was saying that with some artists, screaming “bring new york back” is a substitute for saying “fuck the south”, which they cant/wont say when they know theyll need a lil jon track for they next album. This whole east/south thing is only a big deal on the internets

  10. eskay Says:

    >>He was saying that with some artists, screaming “bring new york back” is a substitute for saying “fuck the south”, which they cant/wont say when they know theyll need a lil jon track for they next album.

^^but what if that’s not what they want to say? Alot of artists who’ve said that or made similar statements have worked with Southern artists no?

shit is true they really aint running shit like they claim. shit i was happy as hell to find out def franchize boyz only sol like 150,000 i thought they were selling like crazy but they aint selling shit buddens sold 5 times more than him. if jay and nas both come out this year those 2 albums alone will outsell the entire south sales for the year so how is the south running anything but that laffy taffy

i really think when people say bring ny back they really just mean bring that old ny sound, bring back the lyrics its just happens thats what ny is known for

  13. eskay Says:

^ yeah, that sales shit is true. I stay asking Southerners to explain to me how the South runs shit and they say sales. but when you explain to them that they only have a couple of Platinum artists none of which outsold 50 they say, “oh be we went wood independently” who the fuck cares. so you maybe you’re running shit business sense wise but I don’t even believe that cuz most of the big sellers down south are on majors.

Anyway whatever, I fucking love the South, those guys are great. (I’m gonna start ending all my comments with that so I won’t be accused of “hating”)

  14. Dumb Nigga aka Milk Money Says:

Well if you think about it, the Midwest outsells the south also.

  16. eskay Says:

    >>i really think when people say bring ny back they really just mean bring that old ny sound

^yeah you’re right Biggums but even if they mean bring NY back to the top of the game i.e. charts, video and radio play, what the fuck is the problem? we’re not allowed to want our region to do well? we can’t aspire to sell mad records too?

Its like niggas don’t want to see anybody else eat, but guess what niggas are eating up here pretty well. personally I could give a fuck about how any artists chart, but at the same time I like to see people in hip hop do well, no matter where they are from.

    Edit I almost forgot:

I fucking love the South, those guys are great.

On the real, midwest is the only place that doesnt really have a style of dress or speech. we took a little from the souuf, west and east and made a big pot of gumbo wit it……wit extra skrimp. Back in the day We was known for dressin preppy. I glad that phased out.

  19. southern boi Says:

i think that eskay is right. i think that we all need to forget about the south versus the north before this stuff goes public. you know i actually represent new york, thats why im all for them more than the south. but where i live i will always represent them, thats why i put southern boi. btu whenever i move back up thats when i’ll change it, but until then im somewhat for the south right now.

  23. Plug industries AKA the Regulator Says:

  24. G-town G Says:

Nah homie Kanye aint wack at all

  25. dj5thward Says:

If I’m not mistaking the comment “Let’s bring New York back!” came from the clip of a Papoose concert where Kay Slay was heard saying “If I catch one more New York nigga dancing like (he gestures and snaps) Ima smack the shit out of him. Let’s bring New York back!” If that aint a direct shot at the South I don’t know what is…

It’s funny that in your comments you say: (For whatever reason, some people tend to interpret that statement as a subliminal shot at the South, which seems to me like a sign of insecurity. If ya’ll run shit the way you claim you do, why even worry about what others are saying? That wasn’t pride, that was hate. The rules of the game is, if you like something, buy it, if you don’t shut the fuck up! We don’t ask motherfuckers to listen to our shit. We make music for ourselves. If somebody else likes it cool. If they don’t still cool. We definitely don’t ask you to buy it. But what we do ask, is that you and any other motherfucker respect us, cause if you ever been to a club in the south, then you would know first hand that the dance floor easily turns into a boxing ring Ya Heard Me!

  26. Dumb Nigga aka Milk Money Says:

I said i think Kanye’s wack, that’s just my opinion. I just dont like his style and the way he raps.

  27. G-town G Says:

I feel all that yall are sayin but let me ask yall this: Who in the fuck said DFB and D4L were all the south had to offer?
We dont even jam that shit. We are on hardcore rap/ hip hop, the same shit yall on. Just kuz them niggas kome out wit that Laffy taffy shit dont mean thats the new southern sound or anything. The south has not changed at all we just finally gettin a lil shine. And Dem Franchize Boys went gold already so I mean they cant be that fuckin bad but I cant say the same thing for D4L.

  28. G-town G Says:

And yea we make club music kuz we go to clubs alot down in the south and that laffy taffy shit gets them hoes on the floor. Shit like that I dont really care for it but if the hoes like it then fuck it.

    And dj5thward u from HOuston?
    I feel u homie

  29. G-town G Says:

And dumb nigga that is your opinion and nobody kan hate on that. Kant nobody tell YOU what the fuck to listen to.

  30. L.P.CROOKS Says:

Im from the midwest so I feel that my opinion on this is unbiased
Hip Hop is New Yorks child to use a metaphor (born in NY)
that being said you have to let your child grow up and make its own mistakes (east west beef) no matter who this child effs with (south) (midwest)they will never be good enuff for your child
But if u fight it you may lose your child forever
Let your child live its own life we know where it came from

  40. blitzpro Says:

The “lets bring ny back” & “if I catch a nigga doing this dance I’m gonna slap him” remark k-slay made was NOT a shot @ the south.

What people who are NOT from NY don’t understand is that for years NY has been trendsetters NOT followers. In the past, even when people from other coasts were doing their own thing, we still did OUR thing. We did not copy.

Today, it just seems like we’re copying from others too much, from niggas calling themselves Bloods to niggas rhyming with a fake southern slang just to get signed.

“Lets bring NY back” is a phrase directed for newyorkers, not for southerners to catch feelings. Real talk!

^your buggin cuz that wasn’t a shot at the south believe it or not. he was at a NY concert talkin to New Yorkers. his point is that alot of clown ass motherfuckers in NY think they’re in the South doing that corny ass snap dance and not showing any support to NY artists. take it how you want to take it but why would a guy who needs artists from all over for his mixtapes and radio shows dis the entire south? Kay Slay is an idiot but I don’t think he’s that stupid.

    >>The rules of the game is, if you like something, buy it, if you don’t shut the fuck up!

  51. Plug industries AKA the Regulator Says:

  52. Stephen C. Says:

i’ll let you do the math

P.S the stats only go back 2 yrs, when really the south started gaining momentum like 3 or 4 years ago. With Crunk Music blasting on the scene… 50 cent didn’t even out-sell the south in 2005…not trying to start a riot, but people ask why everyone keeps saying the south is running the game…look at the plaques and the influence on the market…will post east coast stats after lunch.

  53. Dumb Nigga aka Milk Money Says:

I thought J-Kwon, Chingy and Nelly were from St. Louis though, dont they claim Midwest? And Twista is from Chicago.

But i dont hate on regions, as long as the music’s good, i’ll listen.

  54. eskay Says:

Stephen C., I see alot of Gold and Midwest artists on that list homey. Midwest is clearly not the South and not that I care about sales, but in this day and age everybody goes gold.

  55. Stephen C. Says:

i said twista because unlike other cats from chicago (ie common, kanye west and other’s) Twista and groups like Do or Die have a strong southern influence in their music

  56. Dumb Nigga aka Milk Money Says:

But still, they aint from the south though.

  57. Stephen C. Says:

  61. eskay Says:

    >>i said twista because unlike other cats from chicago (ie common, kanye west and other’s) Twista and groups like Do or Die have a strong southern influence in their music

^so using that logic NY should claim everybody from every region. come on dog, give us strictly Southern sales cuz if you remove Nelly and Chingy those are two of the biggest sellers on that list.

  62. G-town G Says:

    Missouri is the midwest dawg

  63. eskay Says:

    >>If you asked nelly if he considered himself a southern artist, what do u think he would say? No.

now why wasn’t it all this pandamonium when TWO really well known west coast rappers said lets bring back whoever, but when an underground, not even well known east coast artist said that its world war 3. can some body please answer that.

See NY is fucked up cause everyone for a minute was battling eachother for the so called King…That’s when everyone else snuck in the back door…I think “Bring Ny back” is just a movemnet to bring back that pure Hip Hop..Shit, I hope that’s what it’s all about…

sidenote: for me, the only person I like from the south is Luda…

  151. Foekist Says:

One thing I’ll have to add is that someone made a good point earlier when they compared the hip hop game to sports. In the rap game I think artists reach their peak as well, not necessarily in ability (major difference between music and sports), but in creativity, and also HUNGER. For instance, if DMX.. okay, bad example… Method Man. Everything that nigga puts out is Grade B shit, that could NEVER match what he did on Tical.

When you start driving what you wanna drive, startin ya own little crew and label, and have people eatin out of your hand wherever you go, it’s HARD to keep the drive to put out quality music like you had when you were starving.

(i.e. fuc-ny), secondly When the hole Saigon shit happend u immediately went to his defense; saying oh he’s only saying what everyone was thinking and all that other bullshit that came out ya raggedy ass mouth. Well, Cot dammit, they saying what everyone else was thinking too. But for some odd reason u seem to have taken sensitive to the situation. Basically, you’re so full of hipocracy that u don’t even see it. Honestly, read what the fuck u put up there and see how many times u contradict yourself. “We reppin our region, but fuck snap music”. “We make fun of southern slang too, but still……”. Come on dude! We do what we do down here. Period. We give two fucks if u don’t like the music, if u think we fuckin up the rap game with our “music with no message”(which is so stupid cause when yall had the gameand was rappin that gangsta shit bout killin and killin and murderin and shooting babies nobody said shit, so shut the fuck up!), or whatever u think. Work on “Bringin New York Back”, aight. Oh and eskay please don’t respond to this because “it’s just some innocent statements”! HA!!!!!!!!!!!!! ^ I don’t think anybody ever said that. Usually when I bring up 50 its in comparison to the rest of the albums that dropped in 2005. Alot of people act like NY can’t sell records anymore and so we have to remind them that the top selling artist last year was 50.

I know damn well he didn’t single handedly outsell everybody down South, that would be ridiculous. And frankly I’m not really all that impressed by those Southern sales you posted, especially after subtracting the midwest artists. Sure niggas are doing well but not well enough to be talking the shit ya’lll talk. at the end of the day we (well I) am happy for ya’ll I really am, it’s just when the shit talk starts that I have to talk my own shit ya know?

*Tonight we gon have a tent meeting, where I will be preaching that old school Gospel*

now that I pulled the plug out.

How is AZ was? He just dropped a monster of an album.
I want a good God explanation

You are getting buzz mixed up with skills, Az had his run, but he is still hot. Like Nas Had his peak and his run, but he is still the best. Just like In basketball, You can have your popularity deflate, but you can still be one of the best, like J-kidd, shaq, etc. It’s just new talent that people are heavy on.

    Can I get an Amen?

    AMEN

that j-kidd az comparison was nice too, cause yea j-kidd aint qht he used to be but he is still a top 3 point guard in the league still gets more trip doubs than anyone and still does his job better than anyone but because he isnt what he once was he gets slept on, and its a little off because really az aint far off from his best shit like dude said awol was a crazy nice album but az isnt as big as he was then ( because back in the day we liked actual rap * and thast not directed at you plug this is one of the few areas we disagree on * and now its become poppy so real rap the ones who dont conform to the machine they get pushed to the back.

And you screaming “Bring my car back!”.

That’s the difference between the south and the east: I think (my opinion) is that we connect with the artist first and not the shit he raps about. There’s a bunch of motherfuckes down south that are killa lyricist but are fake motherfuckers and those are the ones that get strained out before the rest of the world hears them. That’s why only a chosen NY rappers sell down here. Cause we done heard all that shit before. We live that shit down here! We bout that!
