Raekwon Speaks To XXL

rae.jpg

There’s a new Raekwon interview up over at XXL and it it looks like somebody had an extra helping of crabby patties for breakfast that day. There are so many quotables, but here are some of the standouts people will be talking about tomorrow:

For you to keep asking me questions, whatever, whatever. I’ma give it to you, but I can’t even get caught up in any kind of politics no more. It’s about artistry. I’m in there making a painting right now.

I never lost my way. Muthafuckas lost their way, if anything. You got a lot of dudes out there that’s legendary [who] ain’t really got the politics behind their art. My shit stay growing, it’s just that the people need to grow with me. It’s a new generation, [but] I’m from a generation where [everyone is] very solidified in knowing who I am. I can’t keep trying to satisfy everybody that don’t understand.

Either I suck or I don’t suck. It’s like in the Vibe magazine, how the fuck y’all niggas gonna give me two [stars]? How the fuck y’all gonna give me two [stars] and then give [more] to all these country muthafuckas, who I feel really don’t get busy like that. That’s not saying that I don’t got a lot of respect for country niggas, ’cause I do got a lot of respect for country niggas, but that shit is bullshit, man. Niggas is classifying that shit as hip-hop? Get the fuck outta here, man. I ain’t going for that, man.

And I ain’t stooping myself down to another level to be some shit that I’m not. And I ain’t got nothing against nobody in the South. This ain’t me going at the South, ’cause I was the first nigga to give OutKast and them niggas a muthafuckin’ shot in New York. If you really wanna go back and check your history, at who helped muthafuckas’ careers, I was the one that gave Nas his fuckin’ shot. Me and my family. We were the dudes that gave all these niggas a shot…Kanye West, all these niggas, and now muthafuckas act like they don’t got to pay homage? We gon’ make y’all pay homage with this record.

So there you have it. Take it how you want to take it, but I understand where the man is coming from. This is the guy responsible for one of the greatest albums ever recorded and I feel his pain. If you want to get all offended and emotional, as I’m sure some of you will, then as The Chef himself would say: It’s whatever whatever.

  7. Foekist Says:

    That Rae interview is hilarious

  8. Foekist Says:

He right though, the SOUTH started all that commercial finger poppin shit, hip hop ain’t never been about that.

  9. Foekist Says:

And now the cats that laid the foundation is gettin pissed on. That’s like one of us gettin dissed and forgotten about by our grandchildren. We’d be on some “mufucka if it wasn’t for me, yo bitch ass wouldn’t be walkin this Earth.” Because the powers that be with all the money influence the direction of hip hop, now you got niggas like the Wu gettin sonned by bullshit like “Ms New Booty”. You can’t help but have a little bit of animosity towards these new niggas. It ain’t they fault, but still.

  10. bxconnect Says:

niggas from the south, and i got love for the south, niggas is gonna have to understand they gotta start naming names.they have to i repeat have to start battlin niggas up north.its a part of there evolution in hip hop.and battlin is a part of hip hop.game is doing it other artist from other regions are doing it.sooner or later they have to step to the plate.they acnt expect us to just give them respect they have to earn it.oh skew it on thee bbq.just thining of that track makes my neck snap.what a classic.

  11. Foekist Says:

^^and when I said “sonned” I meant from a record sales and promotion standpoint.

  12. Joe 88 Says:

    Predicts 5x post

*flashbacks of field mob talk shit about new york thread*

  13. reggaetonslasher Says:

marvelous…but whats the issue with his brethren ghost, somthing aint right man, if ghost aint on the album i dont know, but whatever whatever I need that dope

  14. Foekist Says:

He gonna be on there, he said he gonna keep the same ingredients. He was just pissed and didn’t want to talk about it. That’s like you being mad at somebody and they ask how yo’ mama doin and you’re like “shit she straight… but FUCK that, we talkin ’bout me and YOU right now, B!”

  15. Foekist Says:

and he’s mad frustrated with the media right now, as well as hip hop in general. I feel him, though.

  16. jimmy bias Says:

chef is cookin up some marvelous shit. niggas up north need to straight start disrespecting bama-ass niggas who don’t wanna acknowlege their inferior mic skills, its one thing to be gettin $, its another thing when Field Mob starts poppin off, they don’t make classic shit

  17. the Landlord Says:

…everything rae said has been said by many cats in this forum and he is 100% right…why is it when hip-hop artists get older everyone wants to talk that “he fell off” shit?…other art forms show appreciation and homage to those who paved the way…did sinatra fall off?…even though his skills declined, as a celebrity, did Jordan fall off?…did Elvis fall off?…of course these older cats (Krs1, Wu, Rakim) are bitter…they should be honored and revered like the architects of the other art forms, but they’re not, they get disrespected and laughed at…thats our fault as a community(hip-hop)…thats why these young cats, North and South, are putting out garbage because they dont do the knowledge and study their history…Raekwon is a GOAT and should be respected as such…
    SHAME ON A NIGGA!!!!!

  18. Joe 88 Says:

    ^agrees wit jimmy

& not just at down south bamas, every wack nigga in the game period

  19. bxconnect Says:

field mob never heard of them niggas battlin anybody.them niggas is sticking there hands in a tank full of hungry piranhas.there junping in a ocean full of hungry sharks that are going at each other are known for going at each other and will always go at each other.good luck to them there gonna need it.

  20. TYRONEBIGGUMS Says:

i feel rae 100 % but i expect him to catch some crazy heat for this from some southerns basically cause like i always say he made the mistake as classifying the south as a whole and dont get me wrong i agree 100 % with him and know what he is saying but the people down south take that as a direct insult to them personally and not as disrespect tp d4l and dem franchize boyz and the trash that he means.

eskay you said it yourself most the reason you never fucked with pac was because he was going at all the top ny cats at the time ( but it was just a coincidence they were all from ny he was going at anyone on top he just happned to be the only one not reppin ny ) now you got all of these east coast cats screaming the south is trash the south is garbage and not specifying anything i can see how someone from the south could get offended by it.

but fuck it im with you rae especially if this album turns out near as good as only built for cuban link2 ( not so much if its like immobilarity, i dealt with it in stride then but dont know if i could handle another one )

  21. Big E Says:

I agree with rae on everything, but OB4CL2 better be a classic, or else his words wont mean anything to the public. I wish the brother well.

  22. Dumb Nigga Says:

I heard that Field Mob’s Shawn Jay got stomped out by Bohagon awhile ago. Anyone know if thats true?

  23. TYRONEBIGGUMS Says:

also no disrespect to rae but can someone explain how he helped kanye’s success?

  24. Big E Says:

maybe kanye did a beat for him way back. You never know ty.

  25. Joe 88 Says:

    * just read rae comments again waiting for someone to post*

It’s just like in the vibe magazine , how ya’ll gonna give me two stars?

That’s exactly why i think the 5 mic, 5 star, 5 whatever rating is fucked up in this day & age.
like he said his cd got two stars but i remember chingy first cd getting 3 & a half. It’s no way in the world that a chingy album could be better than a rae album period. I think rap mags should rate the album by every track, that’s how i do it but hey who really cares anyway

  26. the Landlord Says:

…i believe Rae’s referring to Kanye always saying in interviews that he was inspired to make beats after listening to “Supreme Clientele” and being blown away by the production….Kanye is a RZA stan…said so himself…

  27. Big E Says:

These old school NY mc’s don’t wanna call out names cause they don’t want some east coast-west coast bullshit to happen again. Beefs that large only lead to death. But xalling out the south as a whole is also the wrong thing to do. Its a catch 22.

  28. wireless giant Says:

does anybody know when his cd will drop?

  29. Stephen C. Says:

Dr. Dre has a son: http://www.allhiphop.com/features/?ID=1389

he can’t rap, but supposedly he’s good behind the boards: like father like son.

  30. eskay Says:

I think Rae was very clear that he was not addressing the entire South. Of course that usually means nothing to Southerners who lose it as soon as anybody says anything about the South period. but…whatever whatever.

  31. TYRONEBIGGUMS Says:

^^^ yea its on datpiff to i was almost gonna listen to it but his name is hood surgeon come one his dad is worth 400 500 mill kid aint never seen the hood like bugsy and luis

  32. TYRONEBIGGUMS Says:

my bad ^^^ were for stephan c.

and eskay you know i didnt mean he said something wrong, its just some southerns are very touchy when it comes to that so i just think everyone should clarify it more, but also who knows if his words were taken in complete context but you know i dont have a problem with it its just i know why some people do, not saying they should just saying i see why

  33. eskay Says:

don’t Dre also have a daughter who raps? these kids should just give it up and live off daddy…I would..

  34. eskay Says:

I hear you Biggums that wasn’t directed at you but it was sorta a reply to what you were saying…

  35. TYRONEBIGGUMS Says:

    Big E Says:

maybe kanye did a beat for him way back. You never know ty.

i’m pretty sure kanyes first beat was on beanie’s album not 100% though but i think jay’s if anyones

  36. TYRONEBIGGUMS Says:

word ESKAY im late on this thread and just catching up. i also just saw you have a first round of playoff predictions dont let me see you didnt pick the nets homie

…i believe Rae’s referring to Kanye always saying in interviews that he was inspired to make beats after listening to “Supreme Clientele” and being blown away by the production….Kanye is a RZA stan…said so himself…

that could be it but kanye’s such an easy target why single out kanye like that im sure RZA influenced him greatly but there are others out who were way more influenced by the wu than kanye. i understood he said outkast but that was his way of saying not all south is garbage i got respect for the talented ones but the kanye thing seemed weird to me

  37. Buscoliti Says:

Yeah I like rae’s candidness, but like I said earlier, Immobilarity was dumpster material. Even though I forced myself to like it.

He better bring heat, like the first one, cause if he dont I’m a be pissed.

Some advice to rae- please just stick with mafia don drug selling stories that you tell. If you branch out, and try to do dumb shit, your album will fail. Go back and listen to Immo- and dont repeat the same mistakes.

  38. Mr. Grey Ghost Says:

Rae’s problem is that he never listened to the old adage: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. OBFCL was a classic album because of the beats (all courtesy of RZA), the lyrics, its versatility, its storytelling and that fact that it was truly a Wu album because it featured almost all of his Wu brethtren. So what does Rae do for a follow-up? He does a 180 and goes away from everything that made him successful in the first place. Fans like myself werent expecting a Cuban Linx 2, that wouldn’t have been fair and would’ve been asking for too much. However, I wasnt expecting duds like “Immobilarity” and (the even worse) “Lex Diamond Story” either. Growth is one thing, but sticking it to your fans with weak beats (ala RZA pulling an MIA) and wack lyrics, is another. Personally, I think he just got lazy living off his “classic” album and everybody knows (tho Rae will never come out and say it) that Rae’s heard all the stuff about Ghost outshining him on Cuban Linx anyway, so thats where the tension still lies between the two and thats why you’ve hardly gotten any Ghost on Rae-related product since Cuban Linx.

  39. Joe 88 Says:

^^ i hope rae don’t be getting outta shape over some bullshit like that

  40. MadeInMilwaukee Says:

This what I was talking about yesterday Eskay. Instead of Rae saying who he thinks is wack and fucking up the game, he just generalizes. Although he has a classic under his belt, he really ain’t in the position to be critical. His last couple of albums have been coasters for real. Jadakiss said it best in his new track “It could get ugly”. NY rappers should take ‘Kiss advice.

  41. sam cockadoo Says:

Lex diamonds- I had almost committed suicide that was so wack.
I could just tell it was gon be garbage and I aint even have to listen to one song.

But I still like rae. He my boo.

  42. Dumb Nigga Says:

    Rappers V.S. Judges

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqSZzJ6Y_vk&search=compton

    AHAHAHAHAHAH

  43. G Off Says:

Forgot the South comment (by the way, Ty- the OutKast reference is because he worked with them on Aquemini), I think the bigger issue here is that he sounds like an ex champion fighter that is bitter about not being on top anymore. He had an undisputed classic album… and then what in the last 8-10 years? You don’t get to rest on your laurels and expect people to sit around and talk about how great you are all day.

Rae needs to work harder and start being honest. Most of that interview he is just yapping in circles and really isn’t saying anything. It’s not going to win him any new fans acting like that.

And Kanye had beats on Harlem World and was ghost producing with D.Dot before working with Jay and Beanie.

  44. D. Billz Says:

Yo, I agree with Rae 100%… FUCK THOSE CLOWNS! (pause) Nobody care about your album sales, radio spins, videos played, or who the fuck you’re signed to. I agree that niggas in a certain region are gonna take offense to it because he didn’t mention names. But on the other hand, if he did, then that would start a big war between the East and South. But still, niggas gotta earn their respect chief. How are you not gonna pay homage to the niggas who birthed this shit? How can you deny that you weren’t even a factor before No Limit and Cash Money came through? I respect Luke but he don’t even get a mention because the East was still dominant even during his presence. People always say it’s a matter of taste… FUCK OUTTA HERE! Ask Outkast who the fuck they were listening to before they got put on. Ask T.I. who they were listening to before he got on. The only other mofos who got the right to debate this shit is the West. But they were puttin’ out dope music (NWA, Snoop, Pharcyde, Too Short, etc). Those cats were keepin’ it thorough and were the one who truly birthed what the media likes to refer to as “gangsta” rap. Meanwhile, the East is what put out what people referred to as “hardcore” rap (Boot Camp, Wu, Onyx, M.O.P., etc). Hardcore rap was moreso vivid street tales, combined with precise lyricism (i.e. Onyx, “Last Dayz”; Wu, “C.R.E.A.M”; Boot Camp, “Buck Em Down”; M.O.P., “How About Some Hardcore”). That’s ok though, because shit gotta come back full circle. People say the art form will die, but not if we as fans and artists such as Rae, Ghost… and hell -even DJ Kayslay – continue to speak out on it. If niggas making wack music wanna shine, make them step their game up. And yeah, the East had radio joints but it was all respectable, intelligent music (Queen Latifah, Tribe Called Quest, Heavy D, Pete Rock + C.L. Smooth, De La Soul, Chubb Rock, Salt + Pepa, Lost Boyz, Redman, Method Man, Lords of the Underground, etc). I could go on for days, but you get my drift.

I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but those who oppose thee… FUCK ‘EM!

    SUUUUUUU!

  45. KingML Says:

    well
    all i gotta say

Is I’d rather listen to Dres son than The Game.

but dres son sounds like he used the chronic to sample from to make this beat.

  46. Big E Says:

    ^^^Damn Billz!!!

  47. Blood Hound aka Slum Lord Says:

I feel what he is saying…. Plus I’m too high to feel offended about anything…

  48. Duke Saragono Says:

WHAT is Rea Dumb Nas gave him a shot Nas was already hot b4 Wu-tang
Nas killed him in that song eye for an eye. Rea losing it man

  49. Barkley Says:

See that’s the thing I can’t get with, why did he have to specify that “country niggas” are getting better ratings than him. Mad niggas from every region received better reviews than “Immobilarity”. All of the G-unit received better ratings than Rae’s second album, so did the Dipset, hell Jim Jones and Tony Yayo both received four stars, but he didn’t mention G-Unit or Dipset, Why is that ??? Does he consider them to be hotter than him??? I think not, Rae is definitely one of the greats, but in my opinion G-Unit and Dipset are guilty of putting out the same bullshit and calling it hip-hop that some of the so-called “country niggas” do. Could it be that Rae is another New Yorker that is prejudice towards the south. It sounds that way to me. Is “Candy Shop” more hip-hop than “Laffy Taffy”? lyrically it’s about the same shit, but 50 doesn’t get the same criticism for that song that d4l does for their song, and they are both wack songs to me, but 50 is from NY, so New Yorkers don’t criticize as harshly as they do southern artist. Dipset are another crew that doesn’t seem to get attacked as much as the south do by New Yorkers, and they spit the same bullshit that most of the southern groups get criticized for, and they spit over the same kind of beats sometimes, so are the dipset more hip-hop than the “country niggas” Rae??? I notice New Yorkers don’t attack dipset like they do the southerners, WHY?? is it because they are from New York the birthplace, so the dipset bullshit music is acceptable. It’s prejudice in my eyes. Trust me i’m not a fan of d4l and franchise boyz, but I think it’s very fucked up that New Yorkers are saying the majority of the south is wack and not criticizing the current New York hip-hop scene the same way. See this criticism of a whole region by NY, is something that happens everytime New York doesn’t dominate hip-hop radio and sales. Instead of criticizing their own hometown artists for putting out commercialy inferior music, most New Yorkers rather criticize the whole region that is having commercial success. It happened in the early 90′s when the West was winning, and it’s happening again with the south. The southern music is killing the clubs and radio now, and that’s why they are winning, and a few of them even made some classic albums like “Trap Muzik” by TI, Lil Wayne’s Carter 1 & 2, and even Jeezy’s album is considered a classic by southerners and New Yorkers(don’t front, I was up there all lst summer, that’s all I heard). So New York mc’s need to stop their bitching and make some classic material, that’s how they can win, and New York hip-hop fans need to stop their bitching and criticize your hometown mc’s for putting out some weak material. What was the last classic album from a New Yorker that wasn’t by Jay Z ????……..Exactly, New York niggas need to step their game up. I know New Yorkers consider hip-hop “our shit” but the criticism of another region aint gonna “bring it back”.

  50. Big E Says:

  53. p1 Says:

    @barkley
that doesnt mean rae or whoever is wrong to shit on those sorry ass southern club joints, though. it just means more heads need to hate on the sorry ass NY wanna be motherfuckers, too.

and rae fucking boddied 50 on spare change.

  54. Saskwatch Says:

Cuban Linx was the official truth. I am not agreeing with him saying that the Wu gave Nas a shot since Nas had already made Illmatic, but I feel this dude’s pain. Hell it my pain. I have claimed Hip-Hop as my culture since ‘83 – word is bond. Its no longer about skill level, its about following a formula to make money. Its about tits and ass – fa real. As musch as I like tits and ass, I have yet to see a nipple or an ass cheek spit a hot verse. Hip-Hop right now is too damn simple minded. Nobody hardly makes any music that challenges you. When somebody like a Little Brother comes through and spits some proper shit, cats call them backpack niccas, and their fans are back packers too – bullshit! I am not hating on nobody getting their paper. Yeah – I think a lot of this corny ass rap is detrimental to the community, but if these cats weren’t rappin – they would probably be doing other shit that would be even worse. Again, I am not dissing nobody – I haven’t called a corny rappers name. However, what set Rae apart from thers other clown is, he spoke on the subject with reality and perspective. Dude came equiped with a flashlight and shined on yall. Dude made you think about how grimey shit really was, but he gave you reasoning. These new schools cats got no reasoning in their cat-hat-bat style of rhyming. Rae has personality and a swagger. He and the Clan set themselves apart from waht everybody else is doing. Nowadays, everyody just trying to find the next bandwagon to jump on after Screwed and Chopped Trill shit plays out. Cats don’t even know history. People thinking Screw music is some new isht, that shit has been around forever, but now the labels embracing that isht like its Reggaeton or something. Though, I have wrote what seems to be an essay on Rae, I am not on this dude’s dick, but I do feel his frustration. What they are calling Hip-Hop Culture nowadays is not from the blueprint I was reading from for 15 years since ‘83. Its a violation, but I am sure somebody will clown my ass for telling it like it is. Peace to Rae for Cuban Linx 2, and State of Grace does sound like something that could have been on the first. Respect due.

  55. buppy Says:

i’m a bit late responding to this (but whatevs– on this site that probably means that shit was posted 10 minutes ago and got swamped) but eskayyy dre’s moms huge record collection introduced him to music. that shit is some life blood right there, and if his daughter raps i applaud her and hope she lays down some good shit and maybe have pops work his magic into that shit. its hard for just remy holding down the fort in this jacki ‘i am one crazy bitch’ o kinda world.

anyways, chef, as always on point. did anyone ever watch ‘black and white’? that shit any good?

  56. buppy Says:

also: “I’m mentally sniffing coke right now. I’m on drugs, mentally. Not on them physically, you know what I mean?”

fuck he’s cool. that kind of talk is my bread and butter, everything he says after that might as well be spoken to you in some sort of dream

  57. buscoliti Says:

Yeah I respect Luke a lot more than D4L. At least that nigga stayed true to what he did. He never claimed he was thugging it. He came out on some real life sex shit.

  58. E From BK Says:

I can’t front, Rae is wilin’. As much as I like Wu as a collective Rae only had one solid solo effort. He definitely needs to rep with this album. I can understand him having a level of frustration, but he has not helped his cause with those terrible albums. To be honest, I am not even looking forward to the album. Besides OB4CL and Meth’s first album, Rae and Meth have been disappointments as far as Wu solo efforts go. Just my opinion.

  59. Blood Hound aka Slum Lord Says:

Man yall dudes gonna stop writing those long as novels man… Today is high day… I’m beyond piffed… I aint gonna read that shit… Hell no one is

  86. Blood Hound aka Slum Lord Says:

  116. She's So Real Says:

There are garbage southern artists (d4l etc) and there are real southern artists (outkast, t.i., ugk..) . just like there are garbage east coast artists and there are real east coast artists.

Every coast has it’s turn to be global. I just hate that all these east coast artists are doing all these fucking crying over it.

Southerners never said they were proud of the fucking lean with it rock with it bullshit. Never said that those were our damn anthems. Those are party jams. So what? The south (particularly Atlanta and Miami) has always been notorious for songs you can pop to but now that it’s on the top 100 and yall niggas aren’t, it’s a fucking problem? fuck outta here with that.

  117. She's So Real Says:

*these fucking crying = this fucking crying

    oops

  118. She's So Real Says:

“I think Rae was very clear that he was not addressing the entire South. Of course that usually means nothing to Southerners who lose it as soon as anybody says anything about the South period.”

Maybe not but if a southern artist were to make the same statements.. “all these east coast niggas got more stars than me” “all these east coast niggas that” you’d say they sounded a little bitter too. c’mon be for real.

he may have a valid point (about the garbage artists getting more recognition than him) but you lose that when you begin generalizing instead of just calling out names. When you do that you just sound bitter, period.

and who gives a fuck about vibe anyway? that shit isn’t real hip hop journalism to me anyway.

  119. Dumb Nigga Says:

    uh oh

  120. She's So Real Says:

I’m just waiting for some of yall niggas to have a field day with me calling ti and ugk real artists. LOL. I didn’t mean they were the best of the best to clarify.

but fuck it, marinate on my main points though.

  121. Dumb Nigga Says:

I’m a real artist, sometimes i like to paint

    I’m the shit!

  125. Dumb Nigga Says:

For real? You painted it? Damn homie, thats some skills

  126. Dumb Nigga Says:

Last time i painted, i was spray painting on a store wall, it said “obey the rules”

  127. Blood Hound aka Slum Lord Says:

Cool that’s what’s up my nigga… You be tagging shit?

  128. Demiks Says:

    >> also no disrespect to rae but can someone explain how he helped kanye’s success?

Everyone (born after ’86) thinks those “chipmunk” soul samples were invented by Kanye. Go back to the very first Wu album, 36 Chambers and then play “Tearz.” This is like 12 years ago! Inbetween then and before Kanye blew up, alot more producers were using this style some claim ‘Ye invented.

  129. Demiks Says:

    >> There are garbage southern artists (d4l etc) and there are real southern artists (outkast, t.i., ugk..) . just like there are garbage east coast artists and there are real east coast artists.

    >> I’m just waiting for some of yall niggas to have a field day with me calling ti and ugk real artists. LOL.

You guessed it, guess I had to be first. Right? FTR, I like UGK, the only full album I’ve heard from them was Ridin’ Dirty (because of all the praise it had). I gotta admit, it was good, mainly Bun’s verses, but Pimp C rapped about nothing other then shooting, stabbing, pimping, and balling. T.I. is like any other typical (mainstream) southern artist. Who made him any more substantial then everyone else? He might flip his role for like one song, but thats nothing. He still talks about trapping, moving coke, etc. Is Young Jeezy a real artist too? Damn.

PS: You should have mentioned Goodie Mob, DMD, etc.

  130. Dumb Nigga Says:

    Yeah i be taggin shit

My favorite tag is definitly “obey the rules”

My second favorite one i do is “hungry? why wait?”

I’m not tryin to say i’m good at it or anything, but I’M FUCKIN SICK WIT IT WHEN IT COMES TO TAGGIN UP WALLS!!

  140. Dumb Nigga Says:

About the guns and shit, do you make guns? Or were you gettin at somethin else?

  141. Blood Hound aka Slum Lord Says:

My boy is also a tattoo artist… But he hates tattooing. He claims there’s no realism to it… I kinda under stand him

  142. Dumb Nigga Says:

My cousin used to design tattoes, i think he designed all the ones he’s got

  146. Dumb Nigga Says:

    Yeah, some tattoes look ruff

  147. Blood Hound aka Slum Lord Says:

  148. Blood Hound aka Slum Lord Says:

I’m the dude to holler at homie

I know someone who gots a D-E. His is golden and shit

  154. Blood Hound aka Slum Lord Says:

I don’t like .50 hand guns… Although they are powerful but they aren’t accurate

  155. Dumb Nigga Says:

Yo, but whatever you hit, aint coming back from a .50 dogg!

  156. Blood Hound aka Slum Lord Says:

True… But my favorite gun is the SigPro .40 cal SP2340 that bad boy is nice plastic frame polymer slide and night sights! Fucking sweet I got issued one in afghanistan.

    I have a AK-47 simply because its a weapon famous in N.O. It isn’t that accurate I’d rather a M-16 A-2 or a B.A.R. but I don’t think The N.O.P.D. would like that.

  157. Dumb Nigga Says:

True, infrared scopes are a nice thing to have man.

As much as i dont like to sleep, i’m fuckin tired!!!!!!!

    I’m out for the night!!

  158. Blood Hound aka Slum Lord Says:

The Fa-Mas is my 2nd favorite! It was designed to kill! Whoever you decide to destroy with that will never see it coming, and if they do its too late!

The Francia Spaz is really nice althought I fucked up the spelling of it. I only had the blessings to shoot one once… Its and automatic 12 guage it holds 12 shells plus you can buy a mag for it that holds 8 extra shells

  159. Blood Hound aka Slum Lord Says:

Holla homie I need to smoke another blunt before I hit the hay also!

  167. KonishiwaBitches Says:

  184. Damu Says:

dude i think that is it. I have it too. it was leaked 2 days ago
Only thing is there is a Dre track missing.

  185. J. Kellz Says:

@ Reggae – I would give a 7 right now! With more listens it may change? The replay factor is key in my value of an album! For example, I can still pull of that Nas “Illmatic” album today, and bump it! Classic material!

@ Plug – I don’t really get into the fan thing too much! Some of my favorite artists make bad albums, so I base it on music quality only! If it sucks, it sucks!

  186. Damu Says:

I’m a good muzik fan man…. if its poppin its poppin… me personally… i don’t think this is all that hot. 2 many 50 cent colbos is not a bad thing coz its 50 cent… but bcuz it is supposed 2 b a mobb deep album. I am not really impressed. a whole lot of the songs have been floating on the net 4 ages. I aint gonna post a link 4 it… but if u search thru them torrent sites …. u’ll find it

  187. Blue Says:

All these mad rapper ass niggas from ny need to fall the fuck back. If you believe that the south is putting out some garbage then you get you mad rappin’ ass in the studio and make some heat. If ny wasn’t so cocky and complacent with the game from jump, hip-hop would be in the shape that’s its in today. Chef was a part of the greatest rap group in history, dropped a classic album, and now he’s complaining about the success coming out of the south – but in a cowardly way.

These mad rappers need to: 1. name names. 2. drop some HEAT, not that same stale shit we’ve been hearing coming out of ny since ’97.

  188. Damu Says:

i think that ghosts albu was blazing dude…. it came from ny

  189. She's So Real Says:

I feel what you’re saying Demiks. But just like I thought someone would take that one statement and pick at the artists I chose to put up there instead of my whole point. Of course Goodie mob is real, but I wasn’t going to list an entire team of southern artists. you can get my point just by taking out the artists and reading the revised sentence.

  190. J. Kellz Says:

I thought the Ghostface album was tight too, but I also thought the Little Brother albums were tight reppin’ NC! It really comes down to personal taste, and not letting the radio and videos dictate what we want to hear or listen 2! There are a lot of dope artists from all over the world that never get heard by the masses due to the political BS! It really comes down to not how good you are, but who you know and how much money you have to push your own music?

@ Damu – I agree with the overkill of 50 on this album, but he does that on every G-Unit release! I am a MobbDeep fan from the beginning, but they were starting fall off in the later years with weak lack-luster albums! It seems like the beef with Pac and Nas took something out of them? It’s nice to hear them with some of that old swagger again….

    ————-
I agree about the Little Brother statement, they aight. But 50 Cent is like another P Diddy. He wants his face all in everything his artists are involved in… Instead of “yeah-yeah, take that take that…”, it’s that “g-g-g-g-g” shit.

  192. Damu Says:

    @ J. Kellz
oh fa sho… It is nice. On the real though, u’re right. They did fall off. Right after Murda Muzik. I think it was more the Jay beef that fucked wit they heads.
Hip hop right now is a Bently with a lawn mower engine. And this is why. Shit… If 50 cent was to ask me to sign with him too…and I was Mobb Deep… Damn skipy… I would put my john handcock on that shit…. Who wouldn’t? KRS One? lol Fuck that. SHOW ME THE MOENY!!!! do y’all know what i mean?

  193. Foekist Says:

Cuz Them Franchise Boys ain’t got a lick of skills (in my opinion), anyone on this board could get up there and rap that shit just from being cool with Jermaine Dupri.

  194. reggaetonslasher Says:

anyone read the interview with dr dre’s son, the also have the video to his single on ahh.com

  195. J. Kellz Says:

@Foekist – I feel you on the shyt 4 real! That Puffy syndrome seemed to get everybody at one point (Jermaine Dupri, Dark Child, Rocwilder, Erick Sermon, etc.)! It does get annoying after a while, but 50 is giving these once hardcore underground MCs another shot to get paid! I will give him credit for that!

@Damu – Yeah, the Jay beef may have broke them? I almost forgot about that! Money is important! No matter how talented you are, if it ain’t making no money…does it really matter? Talent don’t take care of family! It’s a choice! Rae says he ain’t so-called giving into the political BS! I respect him for that, but he is the only one that will be dealing with the aftermath of his decisions now! Nah, KRS ain’t signing man! :) He has too much pride!

  196. reggaetonslasher Says:

thats a perfect example of nepotism, cause he sucks bad. dre’s son is the worst.

  197. eskay Says:

Ok, I’m here now. first off, here’s what I have to say to anybody who has a problem with what Rae said.

    http://blogs.sohh.com/nyc/archives/2006/04/raekwon_talks_greasy_1.html

Now, if anybody wants to argue, set it off. Rae should name names? what for? why should the words D4L or Ying Yang Twins ever have to come outta that man’s mouth? Why should somebody with a certified classic and over 10 years in the game even give those clown niggas the respect of saying they names? You know who the fuck he’s talking about. I’m so sick of niggas saying oh well they should be specific about who’s wack. Like seriously, who the fuck are ya’ll niggas to tell Rae he needs to clarify his comments for you?

Either you have the intelligence to understand what he means when he says “I ain’t got nothing against nobody in the South. This ain’t me going at the South..” or you fucking lose, what can I tell you. I’ve had it up to here with motherfuckers thinking NY artists can’t express their feelings or that they owe somebody some kind of explanation. fuck outta here with that shit. obviously Rae feels the same way or else he would’ve held his tounge in that interview.

Oh and, New York niggas shouldn’t complain? Why the fuck not? Southern artists stay complaining about not getting enough respect, but when a NY nigga speaks his mind it’s crying? come on man, these niggas doing the complaing did their part for hip hop which gives them the right to speak up when they see motherfuckers fucking up the legacy.

  198. Blaze Says:

Fuck that shit, I feel what he saying but what the fuck he mean? Outkast got to give his ass a shot out or somethin. Dont call the south name out with that shit, y dont all them new ny cats put these older heads on records or shot them out?

We always give props to ugk outkast ball and mjg goodie mob and shit cause they are our pioneers. Our legends. If rae wanna be mad at somebody, be mad at ny. Yall egos the reason y yall hurtin. yall let 50 come in and fuck yall up so stop gettin mad at the south cause we been held down b4, we dont plan to again by any motherfuckin body.

Yall say us country niggaz he-haw-but money come back and forth like a see-saw

  199. Blood Hound aka Slum Lord Says:

Eskay just pulled a Biggums and joined the novel club!

But real talk all rappers are pussies.

All of them bitches need to stop bitching. Eastcoast, westcoast, Mid west and south niggas. I’m tired of that shit… Bitches rap some good shit and come with hot beats niggas WILL buy your shit. All rappers are house hold names! These bitches are seen on tv heard on the radio and some have video game cameos so the bitchin aint called for.

  200. Blood Hound aka Slum Lord Says:

In a rappers eyes they want the world to view them as gangsters. But in my eyes they are all bitches (only the ones that cry about everything). Rap is becoming touch football them niggas can’t take a hit anymore. Bitch if you don’t sell get up dust yourself off and do it again!

This is not a shot a Rae this is a shot at the industry itself!

  201. tyronebiggums71 Says:

Oh and, New York niggas shouldn’t complain? Why the fuck not? Southern artists stay complaining about not getting enough respect, but when a NY nigga speaks his mind it’s crying? come on man, these niggas doing the complaing did their part for hip hop which gives them the right to speak up when they see motherfuckers fucking up the legacy.

CO – SIGN THAT SHIT ESKAY. PEOPLE FROM THE SOUTH COMPLAIN THEY DONT GET RESPECT AND THEN FLIP OUT WHEN AN OLD SCHOOL NY CAT WHO HELPED LAID THIS SHIT DOWN GETS PISSED HE ISNT GETTING RESPECT,

  202. DWinna Says:

The culture in the south is different from the culture up north. In the dirty we fixen to do us the only way we know how in the dirty.

Ultimately it comes down to the fans and where they choose to spend their funds.

But I do understand that the original art of hip-hop was crafted by word-smiths… a lot of cats these days haven’t mastered the art yet (north and south). I say all that to say this … I like some of their songs, but D4L should not be classified as hip-hop.

  203. Blue Says:

If you made classic music and were a part of the beautiful artform that hip hop used to be hip-hop how can these niggas 10-15 years later fuck up your legacy?? Come on dog. Only you can fuck up the legacy by putting out shit that’s inferior to what niggas was first feeling you for in the first place. Nobody’s forgotten about Rae or WuTang.

These ny niggas need to stop all that “the south” shit. Because if you’re talking about a d4l or ying ying you need to be real enough to say that shit. If you’re a legend and you feel like a nigga is disrespecting the art form you need to call his ass out. I don’t care what kind of disclaimers you put on it, when say “the south” you disrespecting the whole region.

And he’s acting like he validated OutKast for the north. Shit his verse mediocre and you could barely understand what fuck he was talking about. Skew it on the bar-b was one of the lowlights of a classic album.

  204. Steels Kitchen Says:

    country ass niggas….

    he speaks the truth….

  205. MadeInMilwaukee Says:

Like I said these Larry Holmes rappers need to take Jadakiss advice from his new joint “It Could Get Ugly”. Flat out Rae need to step it up. Have a classic does not mean you get a pass the rest of your career. Sooner these dudes step it up the better. Stop crying and get to working. The south didn’t put out those wack albums he did. Stop the generalizing.

  206. Blue Says:

When New York was on top, hiphop was the greatest thing in the world. There was so much inspiration coming out of ny for the longest. Now these niggas is too busy bitching and complaining to do some inspirational shit. If you let the politics stop you you just might as shut the fuck up and applaud these country niggas for getting rich putting out that wack shit you complaining about.

  207. eskay Says:

    >>Rae need to step it up

^please State of Grace is better than anything I’ve heard out of the South all year

    >>The south didn’t put out those wack albums he did

^those albums weren’t wack, niggas just had high expectations after OBC4L. and the South is responsible for more wack shit than any other region in the history of rap. yeah I said it.

  208. eskay Says:

    >>niggas is too busy bitching and complaining to do some inspirational shit.

^ niggas in NY stay putting out heat, ya’ll just don’t hear it because of the corporate monopoly on radio.

  209. MadeInMilwaukee Says:

Keep it real ain’t that much good music coming from NY or anywhere for that matter. It’s a hand full of people from NY making good music. I’m not talking about whats played on the radio either. Dudes still haven’t progressed any, while the rest of the country caught up. Stop living off of 1988-1997. It used to be that you could pick up just about anybody from NY and hear something fresh, amazing, and inspirational. Now everything is cookie cutter and run of the mill. Even the dude who hot don’t move us like they used to. They don’t give me the feeling of hear Jay for the first time or hearing Pun rip a track. Bring that feeling back, ASAP!!

  210. Blue Says:

    >>niggas in NY stay putting out heat, ya’ll just don’t hear it because of the corporate monopoly on radio.

I think you might be exaggerating, but if that’s the case put us up on that heat they stay putting out. I would love to hear some. Since I started coming to this site I’ve been turned on to Papoose and others. Who else am I sleeping on?

  211. real1 Says:

^^co-sign. currently in the atl and i’m about to cut my ears off if i turn on the radio one more time and hear this garbage.

  212. J. Kellz Says:

^please State of Grace is better than anything I’ve heard out of the South all year

@Eskay – That DJ Drama/Little Brother “Separate But Equal” mixtape was dope though!

  213. MadeInMilwaukee Says:

Please let us know what we missing out on, because I listen to everything and I don’t hear heat.

  214. MadeInMilwaukee Says:

State of Grace was slick but that ain’t going to change my mind. That just ain’t enough.

  215. eskay Says:

    Blue,

You already mentioned Papoose, Saigon, Ghostface, the subject of this post, Nas, D Block, Buddens, Immortal Technique, Talib Kweli, dead prez…

that’s off the top of the head…

  216. eskay Says:

…and yeah the Seperate but Equal was fire.

  217. MadeInMilwaukee Says:

Eskay, everybody you named is somebody we know. None of those people dropped something that really made an impact, except Buddens with Mood Music 2. Ghostface last album was fire too.

As far as Pap and Saigon I want to hear a album cuz there mixtapes are getting to be the same ol’, same ol’.

  218. eskay Says:

    >>None of those people dropped something that really made an impact

made an impact to who? and what does that mean anyway? I hope it doesn’t mean sold records…

  219. Buscoliti Says:

I might be the only one who thinks papoose is overrated. He just doesnt have the package to be really big.

    I do like Saigon.

  220. She's So Real Says:

“the South is responsible for more wack shit than any other region in the history of rap. yeah I said it.”

    “made an impact to who?”

exactly. different strokes for different folks.

  221. eskay Says:

    >>the South is responsible for more wack shit than any other region

    ^ I’m lying?

  222. She's So Real Says:

again I say, “made an impact to who?”

  223. J. Kellz Says:

Actually, the hiphop industry as a whole has more wack albums than great ones!

  224. truly wretched Says:

1st an formost all this byotch’n every1 is do’n need to stop, just like on dave cheppelle show. keep it up and the white man will come an take it
away… lol trully tho, only if we as a whole could just get this music shit under 1 banner. owned by us ran by us overseen by us, i bet things would be alittle diffrent for all coast on a whole. but we being the hoes that (artist)
we are taugh tobe, stay up under them pimps (industry) nutz. get diddy
jd, master p cash $ an i dare say it 50cent, all together maybe we could have our own distribution company. oh no we can’t have that tho huh..

  225. MadeInMilwaukee Says:

People all over are not anticipatine Pap and Saigon like NY is. Like dude said on “Juice” they local. We all know sale are not the judge of whether something is good or not. Right now I would say Sai has a better chance of making it than Pap.

  226. MadeInMilwaukee Says:

    At Eskay yeah you lying.

  227. She's So Real Says:

I can’t say you’re lying because that’s YOUR opinion that you are entitled to. I don’t think you have to be an ass and say that shit but that’s your opinion, you’re entitled to it.

You think we muthafuckin like that wack ass artists like d4l get to capitolize on the south’s shine? hell naw. I just don’t understand how you can make a statement like that just based on the southern artists you see on the airwaves.

as a whole the south is not on the same level as the east coast’s lyrically. there. is that what yall niggas want to hear? And of course they’re not, this shit started in the east. of course yall are going to be fucking light years ahead of us. but to say that the south is responsible for more wack shit than any other region in the history of rap… man that’s some bullshit. but again, your opinion. and I respect that shit, too damn bad you can’t do the same.

  228. She's So Real Says:

PS I’m not a fan of the “snap movement” or of most of the swisha house artists. there ARE southern LYRICISTS however, that I’m very, very proud to say I dig.

I’m just sorry that some of yall aren’t open minded enough to differentiate the two.

Like how I managed to make my point in all my posts without throwing dirt on the east? too damn bad some of yall niggas can’t do the same.

  229. eskay Says:

    She’s So Real,

You obviously haven’t read alot of my posts or comments cuz you would know that I do differentiate between the two. I know ya’ll got lyricists but ya’ll also got alot of garbage, just admit it.

I only talk shit about the South after I do a post like this and nigga’s come in here all emotional. Other than that I just tell the truth. I’m not trying to throw dirt, and it’s not my opinion it’s fact. come on man look at how much wack shit come outta the South? open up any hip hop magazine and look at all the corny ass LOCAL Southern artists with ads in there. All that shit is trash, say it isn’t.

I didn’t say one word about D4L either. there’s plenty of shit that niggas actually think is hot that is straight garbage. Lil Flip? trash. Mike Jones? garbage. Slim Thug? wack. Go a head list somebody you think is hot and I’ll tell you about them. If they’re hot I’ll admit it, but if they aren’t you better believe I’ll tell you.

  230. eskay Says:

    >>People all over are not anticipatine Pap and Saigon like NY is. Like dude said on “Juice” they local.

who cares, you asked who was making hot shit not who was highly anticipated. I could give a fuck who else is checking for them niggas, I just know I am.

    >>At Eskay yeah you lying

why don’t ya’ll just admit that the ya’ll put out a lot of bullshit? the ratio of wack artists to dope artists down there is crazy. sure we have wack artists in NY but how many? we have way more dope rappers I’ll tell you that. seriously, D4L and DFB ain’t the only niggas making ignorant ass bullshit like that, let’s be real. but whatever, I’m just being honest. I know good hip hop when I hear it, and right now I hear alot of Southern bullshit whenever I turn on the radio. Am I imagining that? Is it really dope but I’m just too closed minded to see it? I don’t think so, because I can sit here and name 10 dope Southern rappers, but I can also name 30 wack ones.

  231. DING LING KING Says:

YALL ACT LIKE MF’S LIKE D4L IM FROM THE SOUTH AND THAT IS BS ITS FOR THE KIDS AND STRIPPER SO NY MAKE SO MUSIC FOR THE CLUB AND GOOD TIMES AND THEY WONT PLAY D4L. BUT DONT NOBODY GOTTA RESPECT NY THIS AINT 1989 YALL CAN SUCK DICK IF YOU LOOKING FOR THAT. FUCK IT DONT CALL IT HIP-HOP CALL IT MUSIC AND LETS CALL ALL NY MUSIC HIP-HOP LIKE BLEEK AND THEM OTHER 5MIKE RAPPERS. SUCK DICK NY THEN KEEP HATING MAKE SOME MONEY GET OFF THE BLOGS COME DOWN HERE AND TALK THAT SHIT CAUSE WE DONT GIVE A FUCK ABOUT COMING UP THERE FOR WHAT NO JOBS –OH THATS WHAT IT IS ONLY JOBS YALL GOT IS TRYING TO BE A RAPPER AT 35 GIVE IT UP. COME DOWN HERE GET A JOB A HOUSE AND ACT LIKE ADULTS. THE THRILL IS GONE THE THRILL IS GOOONNE BITHCHES

  232. She's So Real Says:

No, I haven’t read every one of your comments because most days I don’t have the time to (unlike today). There’s a lot of garbage that comes from the south, I’ll admit. But there are a lot of wack artists from up there as well (and I was born in PG county MD so I’m not biased, homie).

That’d be like go go music getting hot all of a sudden and taking over the air waves. Now all of sudden this bullshit (sorry yall, just my opinion..) is all over the fucking radio and people from different regions are digging it into the fucking dirt on every damn blog they make (laffy taffy, anyone?). is that all the east has? NO. Is that what some ignorant people are going to assume? yes. Please for the love of _God_ tell me you at least hear me.

I won’t lie to you A LOT of the shit that is around here is the same, redundant simple shit recycled. I know that because I’ve lived here for 12 years. some of the folks down here are some simple rhyming muthafuckas. but to say that the south has put out the most wack shit than any other region? yes I call that close minded.

And I’ll pass on posting artists I like to listen to. the only thing that is going to come from that is niggas picking apart anyone I post.

I come here because I find your posts and thoughts intriguing. Not because I need you to tell me who’s hot.

  233. NYHEART Says:

I feel Rae pain, but hip-hop means something different to everybody right now. if you lived in the south, you gone rep whatever hip hop you grew up on. im a 70′s baby from BK, so you know what im gonna rep. he can’t fault those nigg*s for making that music. they ain’t never heard of him like that in the south, sh*t i lived in FL for 2yrs. they barely play NY shi*t at all. he just need to worry about his project and stay true to NY, we know what we like and if your sh*t is garbage, it’s garbage, and that goes for anybody anywhere coming out. he moved to ATL so he is surrounded by that sh*t all day, he need to move back to NY so he can atleast hear his sh*t on the radio.

  234. eskay Says:

    @She’s So Real

I hear you (and I agree with the go-go shit) but let me ask you this, do you object to the comment about putting out the most wack shit because it’s not true, or because you honeslty think I’m wrong?

If you really think I’m wrong, then please tell me what region has put out more wackness.

By the way, ya’ll shouldn’t get mad when I say that, it’s not your fault, blame it on them simple rhyming motherfuckas ya’ll got down there and the labels that sign them. I bet there are some fire lyricists down south that ain’t gettin no shine because all the labels want is that quick bullshit pop hit that’ll make dough.

  235. MadeInMilwaukee Says:

    >>I bet there are some fire lyricists down south that ain’t gettin no shine because all the labels want is that quick bullshit pop hit that’ll make dough.

This I will say is true, but this happens to every region. But when there names are brought up ya’ll shoot them down.

  236. TYRONEBIGGUMS Says:

    SHE SO REAL SAYS

“as a whole the south is not on the same level as the east coast’s lyrically. there. is that what yall niggas want to hear? yes that is what we want to hear, and if more people from the south talked like that their would be no hate from us. see we got the door open for the south by helping accecpting and respecting people like scarface. where we tend to get pissed is when the people start saying FUCK THE EAST COAST SOUTH IS RUNNING THIS SHIT thats when we snap and bug the fuck out and if comments like that were never made then we would never have a problem.

  237. MadeInMilwaukee Says:

Also depending on the artist people don’t always look to here lyrics. Sometimes people just want to be entertained, whether it’s in a club or driving on the radio.

  238. Dumb Nigga Says:

I gotta know though, what is the south running?

  239. the Landlord Says:

…since the rap civil war rages on, i have noticed there is a name that has not been brought up yet, of course im repping NY in the war, BUT….i must confess…the MC right now that has me stabbing at that rewind key is from the south…and if i was taking up the south’s cause in this ongoing battle of opinions, i sure would be shouting this dude out…dont get it twisted , i aint switching sides, but what do yall think of Phonte from Little Brother?…im late on copping theListening and the Minstrel Show, but dude is crazy ill…who knew?!?!…track 13- Watch me on the Minstrel Show, dude spits one of the illest verses i ever heard…his flow is impeccable…no Bamma talk for Little Brother, that’s certified hip-hop…i just cant believe im so late on their shit…wow…

  240. MadeInMilwaukee Says:

Anybody who doesn’t acknowledge New York for there contributions to hip hop is a joke. We all know what you have brought to the table. Just don’t rest on your laurels, and expect us to accept sub-par music from ya’ll. It’s not about one region running things, it’s about giving credit where credit is due. Southern artist and their fans still feel like we don’t get the credit we would like and are being blamed for something that everyone contributes to and thats WACK MUSIC!!

  244. BBN2 Says:

I jus read that Raekwon article. I respect dude he got skills “BFCL” was an still is some classic shit but, it appears to me that the niggas bitchin bout recognition. I understand where he comin from as far as dumbin  his lyrics to meet a feeble minded audience standards but, to say he gave niggas like Outkast & Nas a shot is ridiculous. I was n jail when that Skew it cut wit him(Rae) & Outkast came out but, I think it did more for his career than Outkast them niggas been gettin theirs from the jump. Everything them niggas dropped done went plat so what did Rae do for them? Nas! Come on now! I ain’t gotta speak on that. For him to even address the South as country niggas is a disrespectful term in itself. That nigga a grown man he(Rae)jus need to stay on his grind an not worry how the game changed if u that nigga let tru talent shine through. He let the haterism be shown to obviously. I’m a tell u like this back in 93,94,95,96,97 the Wu was the shit but this is 2006 niggas aint tryin to hear them funny style ass beats that shit takes away from a dope lyricist such as Rae. When u see a nigga like Rae n a mag bitchin It upsets me because I considered him to b 1 them niggas that above all that like Jay or Nas.

  245. Memphis Shawty Says:

    That nigga need a tissue.

  246. mize2 Says:

WORD Landlord….Phonte is Dope…but he dont sound like a Southern rapper At ALL…If u like that ablum…Go and GET there First ablum ” The Listening “..Classic shit..Slept on by the south and North niggas….I respect alot of dudes from the south…but MOst of them niggas is WACK…And there subject matter is Lame.

  247. ricky d Says:

    1) suddenly the A and the Bay come up with crunk, snap music, and hyphy and everyone’s hating, but for years there have been different types of rap for the club and such… bounce music, Miami bass, HIP HOUSE (anybody remember that, that was basically the worst shit ever)… honestly, the worst snap music is better than all that stuff, and hyphy is way better… nobody was arguing that Poison Clan was “real hip hop”…

    2) the “real rap” from the south (Atl and Houston) does a better job of incorporating hot-ass beats that have just the sound their core audience wants (ie that 808 drum kit)… who’s the only rapper out of NYC with hot-sounding commercial beats… oh yeah, 50 Cent, and Fat Joe for 1 song… put whatever slept on MC from NYC on a hot-ass Dre-style beat and let him spit some flashy tough talk, put a little noise in the streets about his image (like, perhaps the number of times he’s been shot) and you will have a hit, I promise. Unfortunately, this is G-Unit’s area of expertise and no one else seems to want to dabble in it. PS it didn’t work for Yayo because the ladies aren’t, weren’t and won’t be feeling Yayo.

    3) is it just that “New York ain’t been the same since Jay (put on a suit and walked in) the buildings”?

  248. wBlood Hound aka Slum Lord Says:

Most rappers rap about the same shit whether “you people” choose to believe it or not… Jeezy talks about drugs Jay Z talks about drugs. Fabolous talks about diamond infested chains lil wayne talks about chains. 50 talks about Bentley’s guess what? Some south nigga is talking about it too… The only thing different is most southern people have a thick accent that northerners find disgusting so they need to find some reason to not seam racist toward their own kind so they target the music. Yeah they have some garbage rappers down here and I would LOVE to see you name 30… Cuz I could name plenty of junk east coast MC’s.

Lil Jon, Manny Fresh, master p, Timbaland and Baby are not an MC’s. You can name anyone else.

Because I feel wu tang is junk period but I respect them, tupac (he is east coast) was trash R.I.P. I have respect for him. That’s like 10 niggas already cuz wu tang like 9 deep huh? Bravehearts trash, gunit trash (not young buck he tight AND a south nigga) mobb deep trash (niggas with history in new york) Memphis Bleek trash, Jin trash how the fuck did he get on?

Fuck it I’ll do the south for you. D4L needs to be shot repeatedly, Dem Franshize boys, make club bangers and nigga stompers, but as far as rappin goes trash, Crime Mobb, same as the last dudes I named, Zro sucks, Mike Jones sucks, Paul Wall sucks, but I respect both paul walland mike jones simply because they sold mixtapes out of their trunks to get on. Crucial conflict sucks, big pokey OMFG sucks,

And damn near all the east coast beats suck. The south has the beat game on lock.

Just Blaze is hot. Ummm…. That other nigga I can’t think of his name. The alchmist is tight. Clue gay but his beats are aight. The green lantern that’s his name, and kay slay cool.

Manny Fresh, Timbo, Lil John, KLC, mad mindz, chaotic mindz and list can go on damn near forever…

I know yall probably thinking I’m hating on the eastcoast but it aint like that at all homies. I fucks with the eastcoast hard as the fuck but I also have the souths back when its crunch time. And guess what niggas its crunch time.

Name your grimiest and I’ll name mine… And trust me if you don’t name beans its over for you!

  249. Blood Hound aka Slum Lord Says:

There are two issues here: the first being that Rae and Ghost are known for being some hateful dudes. Lets put aside their message and review their history. On Shark Niggas they call out BIG. We all know Biggie is no D4L but they still come at him. Method (who is an obvious sell out) even admitted to the fact that Rae and Ghost are haters. So I think Rae is a bit flagrant when speaking all that shit. True, the country niggas may not be putting out classics, but who is right now? No one is releasing music on the level of OBFCL or Ironman. 94 – 96 Still remains the golden era of hip hop.
The second issue is the fact that the albums this nigga has put out (after OBFCL) has been some garbage. I loved OBFCL. I loved the purple color case. It set the standard for all the other rappers to follow, but damn, all of your other shit was so weak. Its the truth. Rae, it not about other motherfuckers needing to grow up, its really about you needing to stick to formula that would have possibly placed you in the legendary status. Everyone is good at something, and rapping about coke and hustlin was his thing. Shame on the nigga for trying to switch it up. It was a valiant effort, but we will give you no credit if the experiment failed, Its that simple. Lastly, I must also say that I do understand his pain and frustration. Rae is a genius. And to be looked over time and time again must feel shitty. I hope he just puts all the crabbiness aside and delivers on OBFCL2. That is the only way he will make niggas shut the fuck up.

    >>it not about other motherfuckers needing to grow up, its really about you needing to stick to formula that would have possibly placed you in the legendary status.

^ see now that’s the problem. fuck ‘sticking to a formula’ this is an artform and an artists work should progress and change and in no way follow a formula. I mean the basic suject matter and what not will probably not vary too much, but if Rae doesn’t wanna fuck with Rza on production or switch up his delivery or whatever, why shouldn’t he?

That’s what I feel Rae is mad about. He’s like no matter what ya’ll think about immobilarity and lexx diamond, I gave ya’ll what I was feelling at the time but ya’ll were looking for another OB4CL. I mean whatever, I think Immobilarity had it’s moments and I wasn’t crazy about lexx Diamond but I wouldn’t call either album wack. To me Rae doesn’t really make wack music, he makes dope music and aiiight music. If you can take off your rap critics hat for a minute and just listen to music and accept if for what it is maybe you’ll hear it, maybe you won’t. that’s why I like a whole lot of shit, cuz I just accept it for what it is, the artists vision. unless it’s some totally unlistenable shit.

^ I also said that experimenting was fine, but if it turns out wrong, no one will give you credit for it. I feel this is the case with Rae.

U niggas is sick! E-40 wack! That nigga got longevity n the game an responsible for more than half the slang that’s bein used by these rapper’s east/west & south. Tupac trash! You should never mention Ice Cube an Xzibit n the same sentence b4 NWA came was’nt no rapper on no coast talkin about gangsta shit. If a nigga consider these niggas to b trash than what do u consider to b hot?

    >>Stop living off of 1988-1997. It used to be that you could pick up just about anybody from NY and hear something fresh, amazing, and inspirational. Now everything is cookie cutter and run of the mill. Even the dude who hot don’t move us like they used to. They don’t give me the feeling of hear Jay for the first time or hearing Pun rip a track. Bring that feeling back, ASAP!!

    Just wanted to reminded ya’ll

Hey thanks for reminding me, i thought it was the 80′s still man. Forgot it was 2006 for a minute. Good lookin out homie.

This Whole Blogg shit is a joke; It aint nothing but kids going back an forth about stuff they dont understand anything about, of course NY gone say they tighter than any region, and of course the SOUTH gone say they runnin shit now, stop spending your time on this wack shit do any of you have anything better to do.

  259. E.J. Says:

We should have a solid stipulative definition of the noun contradiction… Raekwon almost provides as good an example of this concept as his Fish-Fry buddy did a few weeks back…

“I never been a hater of these other cats who never really had nothing being successful.”

    Contradiction comes in…

“Either I suck or I don’t suck. It’s like in the Vibe magazine, how the fuck y’all niggas gonna give me two [stars]? How the fuck y’all gonna give me two [stars] and then give [more] to all these country muthafuckas, who I feel really don’t get busy like that.”

    Contradiction comes in…

“That’s not saying that I don’t got a lot of respect for country niggas, ’cause I do got a lot of respect for country niggas…”

    Contradiction comes in…

“…but that shit is bullshit, man. Niggas is classifying that shit as hip-hop? Get the fuck outta here, man. I ain’t going for that, man. And I ain’t stooping myself down to another level to be some shit that I’m not.”

Sigh… I was disappointed not by what “The Chef” cooked up in this interview (because we all know Rae, and any former member of Wu-Tang is going to say whatever the fuck is on their mind which is why Enter The Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers will forever be a classic), but because a few weeks ago I had given Rae so much credit for not stooping to the “I’m a grown-ass man who like a bitch hates on the success of others” level that Fish-Fry managed to reach.

He even mentions how he was the first to bring Outkast to NY, even though I’m pretty sure Dre and Antoine had been there before (Source Award For Best New Artist in ’95; before getting boooed), and from many comments on this blog, I don’t know if NY will ever truly know who Outkast is so that point is close to null and void. But I do give credit where due…

So with that credit, Rae should stop the generalizations because he knows good and damn well artists Down South do “get busy” because he’s worked with the highest selling Hip-Hop group of all time (cough… cough… Outkast… cough…). And, even if you do want to D4L generalize an entire region which you know is bullshit, why hate? Yes, it’s true, many of the commercial artists from The South who have blown up in the last couple of years are not on par lyrically with Raekwon and that seems to be why he was pissed. Somewhat understandable point…

But if that’s the logic, let’s look further. Rae’s last commercial album was Lex Diamond Story in ’03 when the “New South” hadn’t even blown yet. So technically, shouldn’t we have seen the names of 50, the majority of Dipset (who have taken Rae’s subject matter full-on by the way…), Young Gunz, Memphis Bleek, etc.? I mean they all had and have had albums out after Rae’s last album and managed to not “get busy like that” (especially compared to Rae lyrically), yet his focus stayed on The South.

See, little shit like this is where Field Mob comes up with “off-the-wall” hypotheses about people from the East Coast possibly wanting to say “Fuck The South.”

And let’s not be ignorant and act like I’m wrong. Just check about every blog out there anytime something about The South is posted and watch the South Haters come out like the lights just got turned on while they were in a Lucky Charms box (if the author didn’t already subliminally or overtly get at The South himself; would say herself to be PC, but the only female Hip-Hop blogger I know of is Tara Henley and she doesn’t talk shit like that).

The same way white people will alot of times state they “didn’t know they were being racist” (I think back to when Tiger won his first Masters and the announcer brought up about how collard greens and fried chicken would probably be served for the winner’s dinner) is the same way East Coast journalists approach The South. I mean, imagine if that same announcer would have asked Phil Mickelson that year, “How do you feel about all these black people winning The Masters?” Jesse Jackson would have been down there the next day protesting in vain as every minority group seems to do in Augusta, GA every year…

Well, that’s how Southern Hip-Hop artists/fans feel everytime we read an article with an East Coast journalist asking some 41 year old East Coast Hip-Hop artist/producer “How Do You Feel About The South In Hip-Hop?” The question always randomly comes out of nowhere and usually is quite incongruent with the previous questions. And we all know where the answer always goes. Hell, the particular interviewer in Rae’s piece didn’t even ask him his views on that, but we got that answer anyway.

Even if it is D4L and they’re the clownest cats on Earth, it’s acceptable to spend over 3 minutes speaking of them, emulating them, saying “no disrespect” while disrespecting them? Should I ready myself for the day I turn to ESPN and see Carmelo hating on LeBron for being a better basketball player (which he is…)?

You may be envious to yourself, but that only provides the motivation for you to do your own thing the way you feel it should be done. You never talk about another man making money unless maybe he’s working for a gay escort service, and even in that case, you calm it down because talking down on another man’s successful business venture really makes you look more homosexual than the escort in question…

To remind people that this is not the first time certain haters from the East Coast (not all people from the East Coast or East Coast Hip-Hop fans before everybody gets their panties in a bunch) have gotten on people’s nerves with petty generalizations stemming from what I assume to be a mix of envy and confusion.

While those certain haters I speak of have painted the Southern Hip-Hop movement (all 17 years of it) as a lyricless, D4L embarassment to original Hip-Hop; back in the day they were painting the West Coast as a lyricless, too-gangsta therefore no depth, embarassment to original Hip-Hop.
