Happy Birthday Reggie Noble
So apparently today is my F.R.O.A.T.’s birthday and not only didn’t I know it, but I didn’t have a chance to get him anything or plan out a suitable Birthday post. You may have noticed that the Redman coverage on this site has been pretty much nonexistent from the get go, which if you know me, doesn’t make a whole lot of sense seeing as the EPMD and Redman albums provided the soundtrack for a good part of my life beginning around 1990. Of course all of the blame doesn’t just fall on me, you can also thank a certain Maybach riding, Nets owning CEO for allowing my boy to completely fall off the face of the earth just because some non rapping ex-drug dealer got lucky with a single.
But whatever. I love Red and all, but I’m guessing he’ll probably never outdo what he did on records like Muddy Waters and Dare Iz A Darkside. But that doesn’t mean I don’t want to hear him try.
Anyway, seeing as it’s the Funk Doc’s born day I’d like to take this oppurtunity to share all of the goodness that 5 minutes of searching Youtube has turned up. Above is the video for Red’s classic single, Time 4 Sum Aksion, from his solo debut, What? Thee Album.
More Redman Youtube goodness:
Parts 1 and 2 of his segment on SMACK DVD Vol 9.
His groundbreaking appearance on MTV Cribs.
The video for Rush The Security the lead single from his album Red Gone Wild that unexplainably fell off everybody at Def Jam’s radar at some point last year
The video for Tonight’s Da Night
I have a great story about the time I met Red in Harlem, but it definitely calls for its own dedicated post. Hopefully I can get around to it soon.

“albums sick like what the ” esoterick
muddy waters is my favorite red album but care iz a darkside and what thee are also classic hip-hop. and who else writes a song called how to roll a blunt i can thank reggie for my superior blunt rolling skills ( only i moved up to vanilla dutches )
ive been a die hard red fan since the beging but you guys cant FULLY blame jay-z for his album not coming out its not like malpractice or where is reggie noble came out anywhere near when they were supposed to he has always had problems with his albums getting pushed back, so did meth i mean tical 2 came out l ike 2 years late, ghost always has issues ( though not nearly as bad ) def jam’s had that problem before jay.
eskay i didnt know you were such a epmd fan and redman fan
red is a personal favorite ( you know jersey and all plus dude sick flow and hilarious ) and in my top 10 yo you should dedicate some threads to some old school songs and videos more often like i dont know maybe a song like k.i.m ( keep it movin ) from back in buisness. keith murrary ( another personal favorite his old shit is classic as fuck ) destroys his verse its one of my favorite verses ever.

Don’t get me wrong, Redman is one of the top 20 mc’s of all time, but c’mon homie, the chances of Redman outselling Rick Ross in 2006 are slim to none. Jay is just being the businessman that he has always been, he’s going with the money. If you were the President of a multi-million dollar company that is constantly under the microscope, you would make Rick Ross a priority over Redman as well. Unfortunately, the music business is 90% biz and 10% talent, and it all comes down to a hit single. Rick Ross has a hit single out right now, Redman hasn’t had a hit single since 1999…..SO making a smart business decision, Jay is going with Rick Ross over Redman. Redman needs to come out with some new hot music on the mixtape circuit to get a buzz going, that’s the only way I see Def Jam making him a priority, Unfortunately that’s the way it is.
April 17th, 2006 at 10:27 pm
for those who dont know how to roll a blunt
Check out a new type of gimmick which is splendid
Since you’re down with other shit, let’s see if you’re down with this
It’s about..strictly trying to roll a blunt
When you get the hang of it, you’ll catch more blunts than Archie Bunk
First of all you get a fat bag of ism
From uptown, any local store sells the shit friend
Purchase a philly, not the city of Philly
Silly punk, I’m talking ’bout the shit called the Philly blunt
Lick the blunt and then the Philly blunt middle you split
Don’t have a razor blade, use ya fuckin fingertips
Crack the bag and then you pour the whole bag in
Spread the ism around until the ism reach each end
Take your finger and your thumb from tip to tip
Roll it in a motion then the top piece you lick
Seal it, dry it wit ya lighter if ya gotta
The results, mmmmmmmm….proper
That’s how you roll a blunt
Let’s all roll a blunt
..and get fucked up
The second paragraph might makes you laugh
When a brotha rolls a blunt and his breath smells like gr-ass
That’s when you know you gotta take the blunt from him
Cuz his breath has the dragon in the dungeon
(yo, yo, yo, light the blunt. uh yo, here’s the lighter..)
I would if this shit would stop drippin’ wit saliva
And if you gonna lick it, don’t drown it with ya spit, shit
I dunno what dick or last puss you licked quick
And how ’bout the non-blunt rollin’ females
That always fucks it up ‘cuz they don’t wanna break their Lee nails
(hee hee hee hee hee, sorry Red for spilling it..)
You better pickup every seed of it
Because I paid 10 bills for the get ill..
And for spilling it you better get lost or get grilled
Bo know everything from sports to other stuff
But I bet you Bo dunno know to roll a blunt.
(hey nigga pass the gotdamn blunt. shit! what you holding it all day for?
Sit yo big ass down…)
Yo, yo, check this out
I want all the real niggas out there and the females too
If you got a fat blunt in ya mouth and you feeling high as hell
I want y’all to repeat after me, check it out
I’m fucked up (I’m fucked up..)
I’m fucked up (I’m fucked up…)
I’m high as hell (I’m high as hell..)
I’m high as hell (I’m high as hell) Yea.
Last but not least, Redman would like to say peace
To all the blunt rollers from the Tri-State to the Middle East
And gimme a blunt when I kick the bucket
Devil or no devil when I am the wrong to be fucked with
So everybody put they blunt up in the air
Take a puff, blow the smoke out like ya just don’t care
So..(pump up the volume) ..so it’s heard thru the next block
I’m out, peace to Red Foxx, I’m off to the cess spot
happy birthday reggie
April 17th, 2006 at 10:29 pm
Red
man hasn’t had a hit single since 1999….
now you know…now you know…..
its a wrap
April 17th, 2006 at 10:32 pm
barkley - i agree and i think jay does as well thats why he started that def jam left shit now obviously we havent seen anytype of progress on it but maybe he can shift some of the artist like redman and buddens over there so we can just get a damn album out.
and he actually came out with a real hot mixtape last year ( i forget what it was called have to look for it not at my computer got it in my itunes there ) but the problem is chances are redman isnt getting new fans we just have to hope that his fans have grown with him and now have some type of money in their pocket to support a real emcee
April 17th, 2006 at 10:33 pm
*is dumb high and still has half of a blunt left*
*needs water*
April 17th, 2006 at 10:34 pm

April 17th, 2006 at 10:35 pm
The two strongest rapper Def Jam had is Redman and LL…. I dare anyone to argue.
Redman saved def jam from flopping.
LL damn near started that shit.
April 17th, 2006 at 10:37 pm
*fore warns everyone… This will be a typo filled night*
April 17th, 2006 at 10:41 pm
I hear you Barkely, but I’m still gonna bitch about it. Besides, I’m not interested in Def Jam’s bottom line, I just wanna hear my Redman album
April 17th, 2006 at 10:41 pm
redman has definitly provided a large amount of music at my younger age. to me he is like ghost. he can do no wrong. he probably keeps it the realest out of everyone. there are absolutely no gimmicks with him. i.e. cribs. and i think thats a good idea about the old school post. i used to hate old school at noon when i was a kid. now i usually look forward to it.
*puts in muddy waters. lights L*
April 17th, 2006 at 10:42 pm
lol @ sir hov of brooklyn
April 17th, 2006 at 10:45 pm
Its about respecting The hip hop and dudes like Red are a part of that and YES he did save Def Jam at one point but man I don’t know about Jay man…. Red is a vet…..
April 17th, 2006 at 10:51 pm
Jay is the Skape Goat for Def Jam… They just wanted his face tied with them to bring in more money… Point plank blain and simple..
April 17th, 2006 at 10:53 pm
i aint say it ty another nigga said it. read tha post not just tha last ones up there. i just quoted what a nigga said.
April 17th, 2006 at 10:56 pm
Jay is the Token President that’s all…
He shouldn’t be taken seriously…nor should he be taken lightly…
He doesn’t have a real job to do…but he’ll do great at his job. Ya dig?
Maybe if you were high you’d understand
April 17th, 2006 at 10:57 pm

One Of The Best, Dare Is A Darkside Fav Lp OMG HOW HIGH I USED TO GET OFF THAT ALBUM. Happy Birthday Funk Doc.
April 18th, 2006 at 1:27 am
Yeah DMX did his thing too… Pre-crack that is.
April 18th, 2006 at 1:33 am
actually though, i’m hoping westcoast gangsta rap makes a comeback someday, oh and midwestern rap actually making it big too
April 18th, 2006 at 1:37 am
WHUT?Thee Album and Dare iz a darkside are both classics to me.
Redman is one of the most underrated artists I know.
you gotta write that shit about when you met him. Red’s too real.
April 18th, 2006 at 1:49 am
I would actually like to see some real rappers from the mid west shit on Nelly aka the Pop rap icon…
April 18th, 2006 at 2:18 am
i wish some real midwest rappers would shit on Nelly also, i wish Bone Thugs or some of those Chicago rappers would diss Nelly man, that fuckin bitch made Nelly is giving the midwest a bad name
April 18th, 2006 at 4:07 am
co-sign NELLY is bitch made^
damn eSKay, true story is that for the past three days I have been searching the internets for a milk carton image because I have these cool photos of RED that I wanted to photoshop.
I will do a follow up to your post over at DP’s site.
I won’t be apologetic to DefJam’s fake president either. L.A. Reid is the H.N.I.C. even with his golden beaded slippers.
EPMD had a gully camp at one time with DAS EFX and your boy K-SOLO. I am not stuck in the past but that rap shit that is getting promoted now is so lyrically watered down I have to wear scuba gear when I put on my radio.
April 18th, 2006 at 4:38 am
I’m from the south and I have southern pride but I was just reading some of the post and can’t believe some one wrote or even compared Reggie Noble to sick loss oops I mean Rick Ross dude whoever u are who wrote that shit need to wake the fuck and revaluate why your ass is living to say any rapper from the south besides scarface can even fuck with Redman, shit 98% rappers in the game no matter where there from can’t even come close to fucking with sharp metaporhs of the Prime Minister of Da Brick City, boy i sure hope u aint from the east coast saying some dumb shit like comparing a rap legend to some fucking wanna be so call hustler from any region. And oh yeah fuck jeezy, rick ross, T I , and any of these non rapping over proof thug glorifying muther fuckers who put this shit out on wax that does nothing to better our black race and status as a people and I’m straight from the south and I’m writing this to show that have great thinking minds in the south but remember that the media is only going to let u know what they want u to know. Peace to all people and black people its time for us to rise up from what from this hole we have dug ourselves into, thank you for all who have this passage and who have learned from it.
April 18th, 2006 at 8:22 am
does anybody have Redman’s brother first album? I can’t find it anywhere.
April 18th, 2006 at 8:23 am
I tossed T.I cd out the window while switching lanes this morning on my way to work. Just thought I’d mention that.
April 18th, 2006 at 8:26 am
@ does anybody have Redman’s brother first album? I can’t find it anywhere.
who ??
April 18th, 2006 at 8:30 am
Looks like reggae dude failed hip hop 101. K Solo. Why you toss the TI
April 18th, 2006 at 8:37 am
Im a Redman fan but with that said I haven’t heard anything that grabbed my attention either. Redman got to step it up. But he should definatly be a priority over Rick Ross. REdman got the streets and mainstream america. All he needs is a fire single,
April 18th, 2006 at 8:37 am
k solo isnt redmans brother…I was raised in the Bricks
And T.I album is bad dope, clever marketing but no get high.
April 18th, 2006 at 8:41 am
You sure he aint he related to him some how maybe cousin or somethin. TI album wasnt classic but it wasnt a frisbee. That sounds like the East hatin on another coast again.
April 18th, 2006 at 8:46 am
Nah plug no hate here, I’ve thrown many a east coast artist out the window then circled back and ran over it to make sure it wont resurface

I’m beginning to take back my notion that Jay ain’t horribly commercial. Rick Ross is TRASH, man. His voice sound like any body off the street, he ain’t talkin bout shit, he’s a Miami Young Cheezy.
April 18th, 2006 at 8:55 am
I take that back, Cheezy sound better than this nigga. I was watchin this dude on Spring Bling, I thought he was some Miami Unsigned Hype or suh’m.
April 18th, 2006 at 8:55 am

Man, I’m watching this video. I’m SERIOUSLY dissapointed about the direction of rap right now. This dude is horrific on the mic. Man, ANYBODY can say this shit he sayin. No lyricism, creativity, metaphors…. My gawd.
April 18th, 2006 at 8:58 am
He got on by saying that he really knows Videl Castro. He is nothin special. I had that single for about a year and listen to the first 15 seconds of it. I just lookedd and seen that eskay posted MTV cribs of redman. Thats the best Cribs episode ever. Yall Niggas check it out?
April 18th, 2006 at 9:00 am

Fuck that shit… Redman is the tight but saying 98% of the dudes in the game can’t fuck with him is retarded…
April 18th, 2006 at 9:05 am
I’ve always been a Redman fan, but he ain’t never been a lyricist. His style and comedic flow is what made him stand apart in my opinion. I don’t know if he can come back though, personally. His last few were coasters for my Budweiser. Him AND Mef

The fact he is always joking around having fun and shit, not a care in the world.
Most of these other niggas feel as if they have to prove something to themselves.

The fact he is always joking around having fun and shit, not a care in the world.
i couldnt agree more. i remember seeing a b.i.g. interview back in the day when he talked about how you couldnt joke and kid around in hip-hop anymore these days and it was said that everyone has to be so hard and serious.
April 18th, 2006 at 9:56 am
Redman isn’t like this other niggas talking bout they rep the hood…. But have a million dollars worth of jewels on in a lambo for the video shoot, with a cgi back drop of the hood…
*believes most these niggas use green screen for hood shots*
Redman doesn’t just rap about the hood… He lives there and has more money than these overnight ballers. He doesn’t hire body guards and shit… Because niggas in the hood don’t need body guards…they need baby mommas.

Shout out to the Funk Doc… Happy Fuckin’ B-day my nigga. *thinkin’ about pickin’ up his “Dare Iz a Darkside” album from Planet Replay for like $6*
Tonight’s Da Nite still gets blasted in my vehicle. Redman is one of the most slept-on artists of our time. Red is the reason why back in like ‘92-’95 niggas here was rockin’ the nappy blowout with the fresh line (which to me is still a dope hairstyle, but Black people aint “natural” no more). Now put together with a blue Carharrt jacket, hoodie, baggy jeans, and the half-laced construction Timbs (or Herman Survivors… I KNOW you mofos don’t know nothing about that)… and WA-LAH, that was me, lol.
Es I can truly appreciate your Redman stan-dom, it’s refreshing.

I threw Bubba in there to ruffle a few feathers although he is a tough looking white dude…
And those niggas you named go without mention… Everyone should recognize those dudes as being real… Honestly Common is realer than they come. Because he could eat Jay alive while spitting a verse about sunshine flowers and butterflies…real talk

Thats a weak list slum lord. B.G.? Missy Elliott? Soulja Slim (no disrespect to the dead, but…)? Omillio Sparks? Him and Oschino been on the Roc around 7(??) years, nobody know’s squat about them. I lost all respect for Bubba Sparxxx since Ms. New Booty and this months XXL. Proof wasn’t humble, the whole reason he was caught slippin was because he was waving his tool. Your talking about rappers who don’t need to prove anything, but like half your list is deceased.
April 18th, 2006 at 10:09 am
@ Demiks
Well I put BG, Soulja Slim and Omilio on there because the don’t have to prove anything to anyone… I never said my list was about humble rappers.
I put missy on there because she isn’t like these other female MC’s that talk about sucking dick all day.
I put Proof on there because dude was real can’t take that from him…
April 18th, 2006 at 10:11 am
My list was focussing on real niggas in the hip hop game…

Yo I think it’s fucked up how Def Jam treats a legend like Red. I mean just look at the website. If you check on my man Red and you click on “Biography” it says “sorry there is no biography yet”. YET?! Wtf, dude released his first album for your sorry asses before the internet even existed! How you aint gonna write a biography in 15 YEARS?!
http://www6.defjam.com/site/artist_bio.php?artist_id=192
Ok now click on some new pop artist named Megan Rochelle. I haven’t even heard of her. Yep, sure there is a bio and the whole fuckin website is redesigned with her face on it!
http://www6.defjam.com/site/artist_bio.php?artist_id=610
Ok so I do a search on Google: “Redman” over 7 million hits. “Megan Rochell” 80 thousand hits. That’s 100 times more hits for Red.
Oh and btw to whoever said Red aint had a hit since 1999. What about 2001 Let’s Get Dirty? If that wasn’t a hit I don’t know what you call a hit.
And Ty, the mixtape you’re talking about was called “Straight Outta Lo-cash” I think… He released another one called Ill At Will too. Redman is the fucking shit.
April 18th, 2006 at 10:20 am
no doubt blood hound i just felt the had to be added for the others who still wanna deny them credit.
now demiks proof was real as fuck and guess what sometimes not being humble is real. secondly your just going on the family of the shooters word, because other witness’s have said the dude proof shot pulled out first but proof managed to pistol whip dude and shooot him only to get shot from behind 4 times by dudes cousin. obviously it sucks and is a shame but its as real as it gets homie ovbiously another case of when keeping it real goes wrong but proof was as real as they come, not many people in the D more reswspected than proof and for him to do what he did for EM shows what a real dude he is and he never went crazy hard after money and got on some greedy shit he did that shit out of his love for detroit EM and hip-hop
and just cause dudes are dead doesnt mean they werent real? you gonna tell me pac and big werent real?
and oschino and sparks yea people might not know alot about them but again that doesnt mean they arent real, you dont know about them because they dont eat of rap they have to still do their dirt ( i know dudes who actually deal with them dudes in some shall we say buisness ventures ) and they dont air all their shit out for everyone to hear they do their dirt in relative silence and keep it moving but dudes are real. and i was gonna say this the other day but god damn im ready for some new shit from them especially oschino i think dude is crazy nice

I could have been sure that k solo & redman were at least cousins or something they look just alike. anyways What thee album was my fav redman joint, dude always have the funniest skits. what ever happen to his mascot? anyways have anybody heard about the story when red & keith murray was chillin somewhere & red dared keith to slap prodigy and he went over there & did it? i don’t know if thats how i went down but that’s the story that i heard
@ biggums
O & Sparks are the shit i was hoping that they came out wit a album but i knew deep down that wasent gonna happen. O is the truth & omillio is tight i realized that when i cop this rocafella vs d block mixtape the whole state p was on there (except peedi) i think there were on hot 97 anyway O, chris & freeway shined on there. im just hoping they come out wit another state p album cause there first 2 was the shiznit
April 18th, 2006 at 11:40 am
which one of them state p dudes said this ” you can tell whos the man just look at his wrist/ iced out like chicago december the fifth.”
April 18th, 2006 at 11:44 am
I had to reply to this, its kinda funny to me, you all try to sound like you know Red and Jay, not one of you have a clue what your talkin about, your the ones hatin on hiphop, all this he said she said crap, ya sound like a bunch of chicken heads……Red and Jay don’t care what you all think, i bet Red and jay are laughin at you fag’s……………don’t get me wrong, alot of your are thinkin what i’m thinkin, but to the one’s who are writing shit like they know Jay and Red “jay did this” and “Red said that”, EAT A DICK YOU GROUPIE BITCHES, GO LISTEN TO POP
April 18th, 2006 at 11:47 am
joe 88 - yea keith murrary did slap the shit out of prodigy and red was there not sure about red daring him to do it but keith murray is gully he wont fuck around so he slapped him stupid
also the only reason i really care about the state property shit was for oschino and sparks, i like young chris too ( not so much neef buck ) but oschino is the truth for real
April 18th, 2006 at 11:59 am

@ joe 88 heres the actual quote that started the beef
wit mobb and kieth murray . From the infamuos prelude:
“And oh yeah.. to all them rap ass niggas wit ya half assed rhymes talkin bout how much you get high, how much weed you smoke and that crazy space shit that don’t even make no sense: don’t ever speak to me when you see me, knowaimsaying? Word. Imma have to get on some ol’ high school shit, start punchin niggas in they face just for livin. Yo, I’m finnished what I had to say, ya’ll can continue on.”
April 18th, 2006 at 1:43 pm
^^^ thats fucking great and murrary slapped the shit out of dude and checked him. that most of been one of the buetifulist things in the world. keith murray makes crazy sense when he rhymes yea he gets lifted and gets a bit crazy but he has more talent in his blunt rolling fingers than prodigy does in his whole body and we all know how bitch prodigy ass is anyway

When I said half your list was deceased, I meant everyone. Everyone, especially Big and Pac could of changed their outcome. You were talking about rappers who always have to mean mug, and said the realest ones are the ones who can just joke around like Redman. (That’s what I got when I read it.) So it look awkward that most of the list are known for acting hard.
I don’t want to be an asshole, but Proof could have avoided that shit. Yea, that dudes cousin shot Proof 4 times, twice in the head, twice in the chest, but Proof shot the kid in the face before. Wheres his condolences? (I’m not related to the man, but you know…)

demiks - your listening to the reports from the suspects family who is also family of the other victim, but there are other witness reports that say this guy pulled out first but proof got the shot off first ( if someone pulls out on me and i got a gun on me im shootin ) but you are right regardless he really had no buisness being at that spot at 4;30 in the morning with 5 kids at home but its still a shame and we should still show love and respect to the man for all the good he did

If Proof didn’t pull out his tool first (no homo), why would the security bring out theirs (no homo)? A gun should be the very-very last resort. If Proof didn’t take his out first, then what did Proof do to make shit escalate there? For security to need their guns?
The guy Proof shot in the face died in the hospital bed, but nobody is giving him any condolences, but worldwide, people who don’t even know Proof (only know him as a celebrity) are praising him.
