Mixtape Awards To Continue, Voting Now Open
When Mixtape Awards founder Justo Faison was killed last year in a tragic car accident, there was alot of doubt and speculation over whether or not the show would continue. I’m glad to announce that the Awards will happen this year and voting is now open at the official website.
This year will mark the 11th anniversary of the awards that Faison created to pay tribute to the mixtape dj’s and artists that play such an enourmous roll in bringing new music to fans and maintaining hip hop’s connection to the streets.
Award categories include: Best East Coast, West Coast, and Dirty South Mixtape DJ’s, Best Underground Artist on a Mixtape, and Mixtape of the Year. At last years awards, Green Lantern, Jadakiss and Papoose won big, while P Diddy walked away with the The Mixtape Top Executive & Lifetime Achievement Award.

hey es, you read that mixtape weekly on that website you listed? it’s saying they’re cracking down on mixtape shops for selling illegally recorded devices. now i know that online shops sell “stickers” with a free promotional tape. personally, i go to burkina, which i’m sure you and biggums heard of. it would be a crushing blow to the ny mixtape scene to see burkina get shut down for that. every time i’m in there, there’s always an artist i just missed. styles p, papoose, jada, mobb sleep, and many others go there to get there hands on mixtapes, regularly. it would be a shame if they try to take that away from us.
April 14th, 2006 at 12:13 pm
I’ve heard of burkina, but where is it? I get all my mixtapes from the internet these days so I’m not really up on the spots like I used to be..
April 14th, 2006 at 12:17 pm
its in noho. east houston and 1st ave. maybe 5 lights up when you take houston off the FDR. they just have an infinite amount of shit. i been going there for like 7 years. back when flex put out that mixtape with those dope jada tracks, the beanie diss and others. its known by every new york artist, and is often mentioned by pap and kay. its dope just to check it out and so you can say you’ve been there.
April 14th, 2006 at 12:18 pm
mixtape of the year, hands down go to dj on point and joe budden, if you aint got mood music part2, get it, if you think other wiz, your buggin.
this mixtape put joe in his place as one of the hottest mc’s.
with song like three sides to every story, young niggas and are you in that mood yet, come on man, give my nigga his respect.
i love jay, but jay what you doing man, drop homies album.
i cop five of them if he needs the numbers, one.
no album since little brother’s is as hot as this mixtape, is hiphop losing it?
April 14th, 2006 at 12:18 pm
oh ok, I know the spot your talking about…but yeahf they do that shit they’ll kill niggas. But you heard about them dudes in Cali who lost their whole business over mixtapes right?
sidenote: this lupe fiasco album is fire…
April 14th, 2006 at 12:22 pm
nah, its the first i’m hearing of this. between that florida anti-hiphop cop ad, and this, and the shitty weather outside, i’m fuckin pissed. mixtapes have been 90% of the cd’s i buy. the last retail album i bought was After Taxes. there’s more substance on most mixtapes than there are on artists albums. its so fucked up that they try to take that away from us. and i’m gonna go online now to hear fiasco’s album. i’m not on that backpacking shit too much, but between you and the few other cats on here who talk about him, he’s worth downloading if nothing else.

April 14th, 2006 at 1:24 pm
>>why it it that everytime u bring up a nigga u feel, u gotta bring up something/someone from the south u don’t feel.
I hear you. I said that because I don’t subscribe to this “the South runs shit” propaganda that everybody is spewing nowadays. I’ve long said that niggas down there may, and I stress the MAY, be running shit commercially but overall quality wise, they definitely ain’t got it. As I’ve said a million times before there are tons of southern artists I love but for every dope m.c. down there ya’ll got 3 or four garbage ones.
So in my world where lyrics, content, and dope production rule, of course NY will always be my first choice. However so as to not sound biased I’m going to exclude NY from consideration and say Chi-town got it right now. From where I stand the South’s reign is almost over, and contrary to popular belief the Bay area is NOT the next up.
April 14th, 2006 at 1:24 pm

April 14th, 2006 at 1:46 pm
@ Ty Biggs & Artez
Yall niggas aint never lied! First off, hell yeah Ron Browz better get some type of award for them shits he did for Mood Muzik 2. I let my homie in NY hold down the Mood Muzik joint I had and burned the other one from Datpiff. I was missing listening to it in my car. Even my manz in L.A. fucks with it HEAVY. I repeat “Young Niggas” at least three times while I’m driving. From the first track to the last, crazy. If Joe Budden don’t win shit, I’m not going to be pleased. It will be a prompt meeting held with Ty Biggs for the Joe Budden Stan *ahem* Fan Club immediately!
And yall best belive that this is definitely Lupe’s year. That nigga had me amped off one verse (”Touch the Sky”). After that, I strated Googlin the dude and been a stan ever since lol. Weird shit: I was at a light blastin’ one of his mixtapes I downloaded, and the car next to me with Black dude drivin’ and a Hispanic chick in the passenger seat was askin’ me all types of questions about it. I brought that up because niggas aint did that in a minute since ____________ (your favorite lyricist) came out.
@ Es
Yo, when I was going to school in Manhattan, I used to stay in Harlem Music Hut. About a few months ago, I peeped an article with the owner of the store talkin’ about they was about to shut down his whole operation. I think it was in Complex mag, not sure. But yeah, the mixtape industry could take a major blow if this happens. Fuck around and cds will be goin’ for damn near retail price.
April 14th, 2006 at 1:48 pm
Slept on Revenge of the Nerds? @ Es. I’ll let that slide. Next time, you have to walk away from the computer, get you a juice box and cookies, and sit in the corner. It would also be appropriate if you slapped yourself once or twice.

The south and the midwest are all one. Most people from the deep south went to midwest factory towns. Most Mississippi and Tennessee folk went to Chicago and Indianapolis. Georgia and Alabama folk went to Detroit and Cleveland. Louisiana and Texas folk went to the West Coast.
Im from Miami by way fo Chicago. Go anywhere in the midwest they bumpin music from either the Midwest (Kanye, Nelly, etc.) or the South (their roots). When the West Coast was doing it big, most of their support was coming from the South (seeing how NY niggas couldn’t stand another region making money off of “their creation”). Listen to David Banner’s song “Westside”.

Btw, totally off the frickin’ subject: Copped Mike’s “Off The Wall” yesterday just for the hell of it. Didn’t realize how much I missed the old M. Jizzle until I bumped that in my car last night. Reflecting from that, it’s still not too many R&B shits that even COME CLOSE.
Fun Fact: Pharrell’s feat Jay-Z “Frontin”, sampled from Mike’s “I Can’t Help It”… which is still one of the best R&B songs EVER recorded. Quincey Jones was THAT nigga lol.

artez, if you can’t deal with alot of papoose’s harder songs and need something more listener friendly, get “Menace 2 Society II”. it has plenty of songs with mass appeal. he will also be dropping another mixtape next week called Boyz In Da Hood. from the new tracks that he has had out in the past month or so, this mixtape will be another “mass appeal” mixtape. and don’t judge him by that song “get right”. i don’t know one papoose fan including myself that won’t say that is the single worst song he has made. yes, including all the freestyle’s where he sounds like he’s rappin to hard into the mic.

I only give NY creation so much credit because the principles behind hip-hop such as repetitive hooks, drum beats, and melodic ryhthm all originate in the African-American South.

^ please Mr. SarcASStic, get the fuck outta here with that bullshit. Me and E from BK already took you to school in the tField Mob thread so don’t try start that shit up again in here.
April 14th, 2006 at 2:21 pm
mr. sarcastic, were you dropped on your head as a kid? the fact that ny took drum beats and melodic rhythm and turned it into a voice for the streets should make everyone respect it no matter where you from or what your taste in hiphop. im a ny hiphop head. my uncle was heavy in the hiphop scene when i was a kid. sunday nights when stretch armstrong was on might have been stronger than kay slay’s movement now. i’ve been brainwashed by ny and i will normally only like hiphop that comes from there. personally, i know that “some” good lyrics come from the south, but its not for me. i don’t like “country swagger”, we don’t have traps we have corners, and such and such. i like shit i can relate to and i have to admit i give eskay alot of props for being a yonkers cat who can actually respect music out of the south. he is a rare breed and i’m not doing it to gas him up, but to show that the south really gets no love up here. i don’t argue it as much as i would like because it comes down to taste. and somebody whose been in the “trap” for a while will prefer jeezy to papoose talkin about the corner store. nonetheless, i feel nothing will ever replace ny hiphop. no matter what the movement is now, no matter what is playing in the club or on the radio, ny puts out substance and alot of other people are just riding on a movement.
April 14th, 2006 at 2:22 pm

April 14th, 2006 at 2:24 pm
Well I tell you what. NY’s monopoly on hip-hop has been done. People from the West Coast, Midwest, and South do not relate to your train riding music. We all have cars, soul, and a knack for making good music. We’re not listening to your sound anymore because we are not forced to like we were from 1980-1999, give or take a few years.
All you people ever hear on the radio are 14 songs which Radio 1 thinks we should hear. They are all pop oriented, and all are non-lyricial. Get on the Southern underground scene. Come down here to ATL and go to club Apache’s spoken word contests if you want to hear true lyrics. I don’t know how many times I must say it, popular hip-hop right now is all dope songs. You NY heads need to sit down, shut-up, listen to some Outkast, Project Pat, UGK, Eightball and MJG, old school Three Six, Killa Mike, David Banner, and suck a you know what. Quit hatin.
April 14th, 2006 at 2:24 pm

I stay trying to tell these cats. if my boy gets in my whip and I’m playing that T.I album he’s like “what the fuck is this? when the fuck we start bouncing?”
April 14th, 2006 at 2:26 pm
Hell, I’m not finished… Why do NY hip-hop heads hate so much? The Motown Sound originated out of Detroit right? Did Detroit folk hate on Ray Charles because he was from North Florida? NO!!!!
Jazz originated in the South (New Orleans). Did Southern jazz heads hate on Harlem’s Duke Ellington? No!!!! Why then do y’all hate everytime someone takes your creation and puts their own twist on it.

Let me explain why the East Coast is finished. Simply look at the latest census data my friend. The nine states with the highest black populations are in the South, Midwest, and one on the west coast (California).
So anyway, the only people listening to East Coast music, is a small minority such as yourself. Nas is hot and that’s about it my friend. NY rappers are corny as hell right now (Juelz Santana comes to mind…) Come with more Nasir Jones, Talib Qweli type shit and you may get a couple more record sales… But the lyrical rappers y’all proclaim are not out anymore the same as Outkast, Goodie Mob are not anymore. Hip-hop has taken a new route which is not lyrical at all, it’s all dope music. Stop hatin folk.
April 14th, 2006 at 2:32 pm
Sad, right? @ Es. I have that single “Let Me Know”, and I might buy SDE later on. That fuckin’ NFL Monday Night loop had to been one of the most creative beats ever. Do you know who produced that?

Mr. Sarcastic,
let me explain something to you.
1.This is a website for hip hop FANS, NOT record executives, so guess what? WE DON’T GIVE A FUCK how many records you niggas aren selling! (which isn’t much by the way)
2. NY hip hop fans could give a flying FUCK what the rest of the country is listening to. Honestly, every non-NY rapper could retire tomorrow and we’d be good.
3. No real NY hip hop fan would ever Juelz Santana as an example of our dominance.

Verse One: Andre
Yeah
Oh yes I love her like Egyptian, want a description, my royal highness
So many plusses when I bust that there can’t be no minus
Went from yellin crickets and crows, bitches and hoes to queen thangs
Over the years I been up on my toes and yes I seen thangs
like Kilroy, chill boi because them folks might think you soft
talkin like that, man fuck them niggaz I’m goin off
and comin right back, like boomerangs when you throw em
With these old ghetto poems, Bankhead is better for em
When they can let they throw em, down from hitchikin and bitin niggaz
until the temple they call the body, now everybody got it
Had it, talked about it amongst they friends
Comin around my crew lookin Jazzy, wanna pretend
like you Ms. Goodie, Four-Shoes, even Bo knew, that you got caught
like accupuncture patients while our nation is a boat
Straight sinkin, I hate thinkin that these the future mommas
of our chillun, they fuckin a different nigga every time
they get the feelin to, I’m willin to go the extra kilo-meter
just to see my senorita get her pillow
on the side of my bed where no good ever stay
House and doctor was the games we used to play
but now it’s real Jazzy Belle…
Verse Two: Big Boi
See what if you was a playa real playa not no slouch
Havin the very best of life lots of steak and Perignon
Smokin an ounce of weed yeah every single day was personal FreakNik
Freakin these hoes in Polo clothes life as you conceived it
but your conception, deception, lookin into your watch I see
you weapon and it’s depressin, they’re diggin up in your thighs
leavin deposits keep your closets open not your boots and drawers
Hopin to get you sprung like bell-bottoms, steadily callin me Antwan
cause you thinkin that you my lady bitch don’t play me cause you’re chanky
I wanted to hit that ass but me and the Goodie we got danky
So thank thee, you runnin that Southerplayalistic game
You was the only one to blame, a nigga don’t even know yo’ name
it’s a shame, you crackin em up and fuckin a nigga like Tupac up
I’m leavin these foes to be the flowers and wake don’t get me see
I gotta be feedin my daughter, teach her to be that Natural Woman
Cause you’ll be Waiting to Exhale while you other hoes be
Dumb and Dumber, yeah you know what I’m sayin?
Verse Three: Andre, Big Boi
One two, yessss, ummkay, check this out right here now
See me ain’t no good, in the black on black ‘Llac no star
Windows are tinted so that no one knows who us are
Talk bad about her nigga guaranteed to snap like bra
Strap stickin together like grandma and grandpa-pa
In this dog eat dog world, kitty cats be scratchin on my
furry coat to curl, up with me and my bowl of kibbles and bits
I want to earl, cause most of the girls that we was likin
in high school, now they dykein *laughin*
Havin no mercy for the disrespect-ful ones, some
be hangin around the crew lookin for funds, dumb
deaf and fine, they be, askin me all about mine
How she doin how she be, I know she’s sippin that wine
behind my back they skwak like vultures
Off and On like Trendz of Cultures baby
hey he, fakin it like these sculptured, nails
But they can go to hell and lay with Lucifer
Cause they burnin anyway, Big Boi user and abuser

April 14th, 2006 at 2:37 pm
[Killer Mic]
I must admit, they planted a lot of things
in the brains and the veins of my strain
Makes it hard to refrain, from the host of cocaine
From them whores, from the flame
From a post in the game
Makes it hard to maintain focus
They’re from the glock rounds, and lockdowns, and berries
The seeds that sow, get devoured by the same locusts
Cause it’s a hard row to hoe
if your ass don’t move, and the rain don’t fall
And the ground just dry
But the roots are strong, so some survive
So you’re surprised, now I’m bustin cries
You got more juice than Zeus
Slangin lightnin tryin to frighten
Plains dwellers, of the Serengeti
But get beheaded when you falsely dreaded
Melanin silicon and collagen injected
Dissectin my pride, fool I don’t wanna get it started
We be the lionhearted, without a fantasy
It’s like that red sprite, you can’t imagine it
unless you lookin at the canvas of life
and not through the peephole of mortality
Single minded mentality
Gettin over on loopholes
Gettin paid two-fold on technicalities
Clickin your heels, scared to bust how you feel
Pack the steel
Pickin cotton from the killing fields with no toe
I don’t we in Kansas no mo’ though
Midwest or Dirty South
Clean dressed or dirty mouth
Whether robbin preachers or killin Poor Righteous Teachers
You a scared demon
Shouldn’t be allowed to spread semen
And your cowardly lies never defyin the jackals who babble
Runnin with they pack, tail between your legs
Though the man on your head say the story
As you downplay your glory
Cacklin, helpin the shacklin of your brethern happen
Just by rappin..

Mr. Sarcastic do the knowledge…Ray Charles did get hated on up north..no airplay, couldnt book his shows..He got called all kinds of dare I say ,,,,”BAMMAS”…he stayed getting played and jerked by many, which is why he just now is getting respect for his work, many, many years after his prime…

[Paul Wall]
It’s Paul Wall baby yeah that’s me, these hoes wanna know what I’m ’bout
Princess cuts all on my neck and on my wrist and in my mouth
Do’s open, do’s close, where’s the camera I’ll strike a pose
I’m still ridin on elbows, in eighty-threes and eighty-fo’s
The gangsta slab is what I flip, woodgrain is what I grip
That purple drank is what I sip, in my cell phone keep a chip
I’m talkin bid’ness I put it down, I’m choppin blades and I’m poppin shrooms
I’m from the land of that fry smoke, got plex I got the pump
Weighted trunk and chunk the deuce, keep it movin I’m on the prowl
I’m on the hunt for some one night love, best believe that it’s goin down
Money and hoes, cars and clothes, diamond rings and ice grills
SwishaHouse we keep it trill, and hold it down baby what’s the deal
LOL, Just fuckin with yall. But lyrical rappers are not in the spotlight like they were cicra(1991-1999) give or take a few years. Lyrical rappers don’t get much attention rather they are from East, West or South. Hip Hip has evolved as a whole no matter what region.

On the real lil homie, I have a piece of advice for you. Open up your ears when people are talking to you. I know what it’s like to be a pup, I was there at one time. You are at a stage where you want people to respect you as an adult, but somehow you are not quite an adult. It’s a trying time in life. The way to get past that it is to listen when people are dropping jewels and understand that you don’t know it all. IF YOU PAID ATTENTION, you would know that most of the NYers on this site have mentioned the Southern artists that were respected. I know myself, that I have listed KILLA MIKE, ‘KAST, HAZIQ, 4IZE, SCARFACE, 8BALL&MJG, BUN B and other Southern emcees along those lines. Somehow you want to continue and say that we are hating the South. Truth be told lil homie, most of Hip Hop is garbage to me. The problem with you is that you continue to talk without listening to what has been said. I’m sure if you go back and OBJECTIVELY look at previous posts by so called South haters, you will see a real concern for the music on a n artistic level. Stop getting in your own way!
April 14th, 2006 at 2:55 pm
Best Mixtape: Gangsta Grillz
> I ride wit the souf. But Gangsta Grills is not the best Mixtape.
I said it beforend I’ll say it again…
THE SOUTH IS MAKING BETTER MUSIC THAN THE EAST RIGHT NOW.
I’m not biased , I from the dirty glove. I aint cock riden but the east tries to hard to sell records. everyone tries to be a little commercial but the east isnt using tact. The south will snick a commercial hit in. East just say fuck it. And that shit start comin out yall pores.
April 14th, 2006 at 2:56 pm
Hip-Hop has not evolved it has de-volved…Since the “so-called” fall of the Wu-Tang dynasty, there has been absolutely nothing new . All recycled beats , rhymes and lifestyles…Shit is getting so wack, the beatmakers are keeping the beats for themselves to rhyme over cause dudes aint bringing nothing new, and where are the nice female MC’s…Rah Digga? Rage? Lyte? Foxy(Huh..?)?…Thank God for Fishscale because a brother cant bump No Said Date (Masta Killa) forever…
April 14th, 2006 at 2:56 pm
-Can’t think of any ritght now from that time. For gods sake im a eightes baby. Just let this intelligent ass brain think a litte bit and ill hit yall up with some lyrics.
-The south didn’t get as much attention as it does now from back then, so if I did post any you probably wouldnt know what Im talking about.

nigga get off the crack. whatever though, thats your opinion so I won’t argue it but I’ve seen plenty of southern niggas come on here and complain about all the bullshit that is being put out down there.
April 14th, 2006 at 3:02 pm
Also, yall niggas are too disrespectful. You start with your insults then expect not to be talked back to in that manner. The funny thing about it is you would NEVER talk that reckless face to face. I know that for a FACT. Chillax with that bullshit and be a little more civilized. Know this though, if you don’t want to be addressed in a negative way stop being disrespectful. It’s not a good look.
April 14th, 2006 at 3:02 pm

wow, people piss me off. The south is not doing their thing, they are just FINALLY selling a few cds. NY puts out a lot more platinum artist, since we are talking about the south running shit, which only means they are selling more! The only problem is that all the NY rappers didnt drop an album last year, like Jada, styles, nas, jay, busta, mob deep, etc…
Wait a few months, maybe 5 or 6, after all those rappers named abouve come out, and then tell me the south is on top just cuz Jeezy sold 1.5, when 50(who Im not a big fan of) sold 5, but NY is DEAD??? just cuz people expect so high from us. Busta, Papoose, Saigon, Styles, Nas, Jayz(maybe) mobb deep, Banks(sells) and a lot more will drop this year, while yall shakin’ your Laffy Taffys

Hey yo, I smoke dust and shoot cops, sold guns to Tupac
Smoked blunts with Biggie Smalls and sold drugs on newlots
I was too young, couldnt get up in clubs back in the old days
We used rob and terrorize kids in front of homebase
If Funkmaster Flex was inside, rockin the whole place
We was outside, smacking kids and snatchin gold chains
Baggin mad pigeons, catchin mad digits, bad bitches
And when they husbands came around we had to blast bisquits
A bunch of bad Brooklyn kids that always had pistols
Broken dreams and broken homes, we always had issues
And mad problems worshippin gangstas and bankrobbers
Watchin star fade startin fights and rap conscience (?)
Until we realized how to get the real money
Steal money, kidnap money, kill money
Its funny how the money make the whole world love you
Jealous cats hate you, dime pigeons
Little ghetto children run up on you, wanna touch you
Got the IRS lookin at you, wanna fuck you
Sniffin so much blow, you dont know if you can trust you
Ecstasy react to what the cocaine and the dust do
Go against the Ill Bill, and Non Phixion will crush you, bust you
Leave you with a tube and ya throat to suck through (?)
We truck jewels, we dust brothers fuck mothers
You thugs love us, ? the gunslingers and drughustlers
Where my gangstas at?
nice huh…

RAP is based on the emcee/rapper/actor being able to entertain through LYRICS! How can somebody be ok, but trash lyrically. Can you say oxymoron?

look, the south only artists that can stck to what NY can do, and thats outkast, Ludacris, scarface(fill in more if you think there worthy, but i’ll shut em down if ther not)… point finale… all them other artist can try but there hype last fora couple months then there done, thats why they gotta put out 7 songs on there album in order for it to sell lol, while NY niggas put out 4 or less and its hitting high sales within the first week, immortal technique said it best, south niggas aint caking as big as they say they are… shit D4L comes along and do there taffy laffy happy crappy shit and think there so fly cause they got a couple people dancing, then they come out with betcha cant do it like me, of course we cant, cause we do it better… niggas need to stop with that kinda bullshit if they plan on every being comparible to NY

The phones lines are open
April 14th, 2006 at 5:08 pm
no… cause that spot is taken by big daddy kane… and until someone brings it like him(keep in mind niggas been on hiphop since the 80’s) i dont tihnk anyone can have the longevity like he has, and he hasnt fallen off or sold out… now thats what hip hop is about… warm it up kane
April 14th, 2006 at 5:09 pm

April 14th, 2006 at 5:11 pm
joe88 it’s theoretically impossible. it’s been scientifically proven that you must live within a certain lattitude and longitude (40.77 x 73.98) for a certain period of time before you can be considered a GOAT.
on another note, this:

well in my opinion PAC can never be topped because of what he meant to rap and the world. but yea its possible i mean EM honestly could deserve that title if he comes out with a few more albums that are up to his standards, i think i can let encore slide if he makes it up to us, and joe buddens has the potential to as well if he can get the proper push and support ( all the buddens haters laugh but im dead serious i wouldnt put him close noe but every song i hear from him he amazes me more and more ) but i mean he is from jersey so not much different.
but being the best has nothing to do with where your from its your skills and talent

first off i know this will bring maddenmaster out but fuck what you heard SHEEK is underrated, madden makes it seem like i think he is among the best which i dont i just think he gets hated on way to much cause if you actually listen to him he is fairly nice.
now as for what you said with styles dog you crazy styles is insane nice i mean crazy dumb nice and like eskay said i’ll give the south scarface over styles thats it ( yea i like luda, t.i. outkast, and others but they aint fucking with styles P. )

Buddens not going to sell because his core audience DOES NOT buy albums. He nice, but the people who sing his praises are going to download his album instead of buying it. He shold think of going independent.
P.S. He should lay off the mixtapes for a awhile. He giving away to much for free and not gaining any new fans. The same people who loved him last year, love him this year.

Let me explain why the East Coast is finished. Simply look at the latest census data my friend. The nine states with the highest black populations are in the South, Midwest, and one on the west coast (California).
obviously you have never bothered to check who buys rap albums you might be shocked to learn that white kids buy 80% of the rap so what difference does it make where black people live
April 14th, 2006 at 6:48 pm
I bought the Styles album it was good but line for line he ain’t better than TI. He ain’t even on the same level as Dre 3000 either. Hell, Sigel better than Styles too. LIke I said he cool for a song here and there but he ain’t great. Sheek as well. Out of the three LOX he the winkest link.

while i dont completely disagree i still do slightly i mean there are atleast 10 cats i have turned into buddens fans o here on this website and thats only been in the last month or so, i stay giving my boy buddens mixtapes ( ny boy from philly came up last weekend was on the same shit as other buddens hater ” fuck buddens pump pump it up ” well i forced some shit on him he was sold he took that shit down to philly and he said his boys are fighting him for that shit. same shit happened when my boy moved to va. he has been a buddens fan as long as me and i just talked to him a month or so ago and he is telling me about all the recruiting he is doing for buddens he has richmond going crazy with buddens mixtapes. )
now yea he is giving shit away shit that is way better than what others are going multiplat for but mood music 2 was his way to say jay def jam everyone WAKE THE FUCK UP that mixtape was the hottest ALBUM in a minute weather you talking mixtapes or studio albums this shit kills it.
also unfortunitly he needs to keep with the mixtapes because his def jam album is taking forever to come out so he needs to do something to keep his fans like me happy.
also joey has potential to be like jay and walk that line perfectly between commercial and still have respect in the tsreets but he needs the proper push and the right beats to lace for his anthems
April 14th, 2006 at 6:57 pm
madeinmilwakee - ill give you sheek is the weakest link in the lox but thats like being the worst hitter in the yankees line-up your still better than damn near anyone else from any other team.
im a t.i. fan but to put him in the same caetgory as styles is straight up slander. styles should sue you for defamation of character that shit is foul. now beanie and styles are close dont get more even then those 2 dudes.
and andre 3000 is dope as hell but he is on some whole nother shit i prefer styles more strcily cause i can relate to him more, but dont get me wrong im a huge outkast fan ( but personally i like big boi even better than andre )

I would like to see Buddens do good, but right now his buzz ain’t big enough. Until that changes Def Jam is doing the right thing. I would rather have no Buddens album, than a rushed Buddens album.

i will say this again for you fucking fools sleeping on real hiphop… no one can touch Big Daddy Kane, period, not pac, not biggie, no one… hes in a league of his own, dudes been in the game for years, put out so many albums, has the respect of every artist alive, even the people’s careers he’s ended coming up in the underground scene, so stop bringin these other artist saying there on his level when there not, until people can last 20+ years and still be bringing the fire and doing tours like kane, then you can say there better, but until then shut it the fuck up he’s the best…
Rass Kass and Gza, that is a combo that shouldnt be fucked with, lyrical swords was a wicked track, i wish they spit more then one verse each though cause damn they both brought some fire, we should start a campagne forcing them to do an album together man, no jokes…
@ milwaukee, how can you say TI is better line to line then styles P??? i dont see it homes, 3000 on the other hand, man he got seriously lyrics and speed to match, and when that new outkast comes along he’s gunna show all the doubters how he got so big(listen to old school outkast and you’ll understand “return of the G”
April 14th, 2006 at 8:24 pm
Darth, i see you are a big kane fan. Have you erer heard the song with him & 2pac?? If not the shit is fire.

unfortunatley i havent… i tried finding his stuff in stores, but its kinda hard like they dont know whats good in old school… and downloading theydont have all his tracks… but im working on it man, before i die i will have every big daddy kane song… call me a stan for kane i dont care… he’s good enough
April 14th, 2006 at 8:29 pm

His catalog is nowhere near as good as Ball catalog. You need to listen to Lost and Trap Musik again. I respect what he do, and Im not saying he suck, but he not better than either one of those artist. Check TI verse on grand finale for an example. Check out Ball spitting wit Redman off the Lost album.
April 14th, 2006 at 9:04 pm
*walks in late…. As usual*
*exhales piff and flings roach*
*looks @ Eskay’s comment about styles being better than T.I.*
*shakes head but doesn’t argue because it’ll be stanish*
April 14th, 2006 at 9:05 pm
Styles and T.I. Have two different styles (no pun intended)
April 14th, 2006 at 9:09 pm
Bloodhound you from the South right? Tell these dudes Styles ain’t better than Ball or MJG.
April 14th, 2006 at 9:13 pm
Yeah I’m from the south…
8Ball and MJG will destroy styles…
But you have to look at *does those little gay quotation finger* “the big picture” in “most” eastcoast fans eyes… No One from the south will be better than anyone from the eastcoast… That’s real talk…
April 14th, 2006 at 9:17 pm
Don’t get me wrong AT ALL I like styles (no homo) but styles raps one way all the time he doesn’t get bucked while he is rapping he’s always calm beat to beat… His style never changes…
April 14th, 2006 at 9:18 pm
Hell Buck better than Styles too!!
April 14th, 2006 at 9:18 pm
I honestly am not all that familiar with 8Ball and MJG’s entire catalog, but I’ve heard enough to know that they can’t see Styles. Unless the shit I haven’t heard is drastically better than what I have, it’s impossible.
I am familiar with T.I.’s catalog and I think he’s nice, but he ain’t on Styles level guys think about what your saying. not that it’s his best lyrical performance, but this guy was on Benjamins. T.I. is just a whipper snapper.
>>No One from the south will be better than anyone from the eastcoast…
^now that’s not true, cuz T.I. is better than a few niggas from the East Coast.
April 14th, 2006 at 9:20 pm
>>Hell Buck better than Styles too!!
your wildin. Buck is not that good guys get a grip. he’s another whipper snapper. how old are you dog? your bringing up niggas that ain’t pop off until after 2000. these niggas can’t walk in the same room as SP.
April 14th, 2006 at 9:21 pm
>>but styles raps one way all the time he doesn’t get bucked while he is rapping he’s always calm beat to beat… His style never changes…
so you heard his last two mixtapes? if so, you thought he rhymed the same on every song?
April 14th, 2006 at 9:22 pm
Like I said homie Styles IS tight (no homo) but 8 Ball alone drops classics… And with MJG they are the shit… They really are Living Legends… They earned that name.
April 14th, 2006 at 9:24 pm
I don’t think I can name one 8Ball and MJG record off the top of my head. I assume you’ve all heard Benjamins? 24 Hours to Live? Money Power Respect?
April 14th, 2006 at 9:26 pm
Blood where you been anyway, whats good my nigga?
April 14th, 2006 at 9:26 pm
Im 26, you need to go listen to Bun-b verse off “Murda” off ridin dirty.
Next to Puff, he had the weakest verse on that song.
Go listen to Comin out Hard, or Outside Looking in, Top of the World. Then give your honest opinon.
April 14th, 2006 at 9:27 pm
*hasn’t heard his last 2 mixtapes*
*but HAS heard a few of his newest songs*
April 14th, 2006 at 9:28 pm
*hasn’t heard his last 2 mixtapes*
*but HAS heard a few of his newest songs*
April 14th, 2006 at 9:29 pm
Just being on a classic don’t make you a legend. Right now the only thing he got on TI is that he rhymed with Biggie.
April 14th, 2006 at 9:31 pm
@ Eskay…
I’ve been in ATL and I smoked something called The Pharoh’s whisper… And I was high for like 3 days off of that one blunt….
Dude told not to smoke a blunts worth, but I ignored him cuz I’m a gangsta and shit… But that Hybrid was more gangsta than me…
April 14th, 2006 at 9:33 pm
Go to any club in the midwest or the south and put on “Lay It Down” and watch what happened.
April 14th, 2006 at 9:33 pm
*was bumping armed robbery the other day*
April 14th, 2006 at 9:38 pm
>> Right now the only thing he got on TI is that he rhymed with Biggie
uh no. he has better lyrics hands down.
>>Go to any club in the midwest or the south and put on “Lay It Down†and watch what happened.
a record that gets a club wild isn’t neccessarily good. a certain song about candy makes the club get wild.
but whatever, I ain’t that much of an ass, I’ll go listen to the shit your talking about, but I doubt I’m gonna hear anything better than Styles. I’ve heard that Bun B verse and plenty others and to put him in the same class as Styles is absurd. and I like Bun B.
April 14th, 2006 at 9:39 pm
Blood, yeah I saw you talking about that shit in the other thread. I need to get my hands on some of that shit..
April 14th, 2006 at 9:43 pm
Eskay, that bitch is a mix of like four hybrids…. So its really like 8 different types of dro married together. When I remember all the names I’ll post it up somewhere on here so EVERYONE can grow that suicide in the form of outstanding weed.
April 14th, 2006 at 9:44 pm
I hear that. I’m about to go smoke some piffalicious shit right now. I’ll get up with ya’ll niggas in a few.
April 14th, 2006 at 9:48 pm
I guess we can agreeed to disagreed then. But listen to those albums though, think you might change how you feel bout Ball.
Point taken as far as Laffy Taffy, but there ya’ll go again bringing up the same groups again. Ya’ll act like all southern rap fans like these groups too. The same ones ya’ll think suck, we feel the same way.
April 14th, 2006 at 9:49 pm
Like I said… Styles is a great rapper its just that T.I. has the ability to change his style up at any given time. True he doesn’t have the track record of Style’s but just go back to all of his albums none of the sound the same. Real Talk
April 14th, 2006 at 10:59 pm
liste let end this simply
the ghost in a shell mixtape is better than anything ever from down south ( except old scarface well and the fix and old outkast ) that mixtapes is better than buck ( who I actually like best in g-unit but that’s like being the smartest kid with down syndrome ) t.I ( who again I like but he can’t see styles) I’m tellin you those dudes can’t see styles shit lots of them 8ball and them can’t see sheek let alone styles
April 14th, 2006 at 11:07 pm
also you people don’t listen to enough styles because he defintly doesn’t sound the same on every track dude stays switching flows.
also the best chronic is this shit called headband its a cross between sour diesal o.g kush cali mist and some purple. that shit is the truth but that’s some crazy homegrown shit
April 14th, 2006 at 11:27 pm
Infared is better than headband dude trust me. The Pharoh’s Whisper is the strongest shit plain and simple… I think its possible to O.D. on that shit real talk…
The effects are simular to smoking dro alomg with snorting coke and eating acid. R-E-A-L TALK MY NIGGA. I SAW UNICORNS FUCKING LITTLE PINK ELEPHANTS THAT HAD THE TRIX BUNNY RIDING ON THEIR BACKS… BELIEVE ME!!!! THAT SHIT IS “SKRONG” *that’s country for strong*
p.s.
I have a cajun/new orleans/latino accent. I’m all fucked up…
April 14th, 2006 at 11:30 pm
Now as for your “8ball can’t see Sheek” comment I know you’re just joking around so I won’t reply….
*sets abandoned house on fire*
BURN BABY BURN!!!!
*is a pyro*
April 15th, 2006 at 1:22 am
*walks in reaking of sours. looks around and is mad that he missed most of the action”
i know there’s alot of hating on sheek. but i think in the recent years he has stepped up alot. i really can’t believe the disrespect the lox is getting. they’ve been around for 9 fucking years. and its not how long they’ve been around that makes them so good, its how long they’ve been putting out quality music that puts them on top. jada has bounced around my #1 stop many times. not in a couple year’s, but none the less he’s still in my top 5. how many, people except for jay, have been around 9 years and still have a ridiculous following?
April 15th, 2006 at 1:23 am
#1 stop = #1 spot. es, biggs, either of you check that new jada mixtape?
April 15th, 2006 at 1:26 am
o thats wack. i thought it was all jada, its only got two new tracks. DAMN YOU BIG MIKE!!!!
April 15th, 2006 at 2:36 am
Jeez I missed a hell of a thread! Too bad you guys stopped talking mixtapes a 150 posts ago. But if you wanna wild out and act a fool then I’ma Throw out some midwest heat for ya. Round K.C. here we listen to Tech 9. He is hands down one of the most original rappers out there. Lets not forget that lyricaly he can keep up with the best in the game.
April 15th, 2006 at 3:22 am
you know who’s good on the mic? jayo felony, what ever happend to that nigga…
April 15th, 2006 at 4:45 am

April 15th, 2006 at 12:19 pm

April 15th, 2006 at 12:25 pm
biggs, check the tracklisting before you buy that new “jada” mixtape. its just another mixtape, i’ll email you a link to save you the $5
April 15th, 2006 at 12:52 pm
good looks uneckbone you beat me to it. I was just coming here to warn everyone else the same thing all I’ve been hearing is new big mike and jada tape ( figured it would be just jada and features ) but no god damn it theres one new jada track on it and I’ve already heard the shit.
I know green lantern and jada aint tight no more but what I wouldn’t do for a the champ is here pt. 2 right now
April 15th, 2006 at 1:24 pm
yeah Big Mike tried to get niggas..
April 15th, 2006 at 2:01 pm
well biggs, i can’t say for sure, but months back, i was at the 40/40, as we went outside to smoke, i saw green lantern. i walk up and tell him whats up and i appreciate the fact that he actually dj’s not screams. he seemed off due to the fact that that jada phone call got exposed that week. i told him fuck 50 and his boy next to him started screamin “I TOLD YOU!!!”. when i went back in and asked the person who got us our room why green was there, he said that him and jada were meeting in the cigar room earlier. when i asked if shit was all good after what happened, the guy said ” yeah, there gonna end up doing bigger things”. so last i heard, they were still doing shit together. mind you it was quite some time ago.
April 16th, 2006 at 12:43 am
My oppinions:
- Papoose already won Mixtape Artist of the Year before, he’s got Flipmode/Aftermath publishing, a guest feature from Nas, and is already on his way up. I think someone else coming up should get that, like Ransom from the A-Team.
- Comparing Styles P to 8Ball & MJG is like comparing Walter Payton to Micheal Jordan, both great players, but playing different sports.
- What happened to the Mixtape Awards website? I swear I was just on it a short while ago?
April 16th, 2006 at 3:32 am
i dont care what anyone says, 8ball would murk Sheek, i dont think he could get at Jada or Styles, but SHEEK!!? 8ball would eat him for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a midnight snack, and remember that 8ball’s a big dude too.
April 16th, 2006 at 4:31 pm
dude says 8ball is a big dude what does that have to do with shit. if that was the case freddy the foxx aka bumpy knuckles would be the best ever. but he’s not one of the most slept on defintely but his skills have nothong to do with that fact that he is the black hulk
April 16th, 2006 at 5:31 pm
^^^
if you’re looking for the black hulk, then go check out Big Tuck, that nigga takes to much steroids
oh and i was just saying he’ll eat em up as a joke, but on the mic Sheek couldnt see 8ball or MJG
April 16th, 2006 at 10:42 pm
the retarded 8 year old kid down the street from me is nicer than 8 ball & mjg
April 17th, 2006 at 12:40 am
^^
i hope you’re joking
April 17th, 2006 at 9:40 am
That retarded kid is way nice than sheek and styles than too!
April 17th, 2006 at 11:23 am
NOPE NOT JOKING AT ALL.
AND STYLES IS SO MUCH NICER THAN YOUR IGNORANT HEAD COULD EVEN FATHOM.
AND SHEEK AGAIN IS WAY NICER THAN YOU THINK
“Yo what’s beef to you, three niggaz with hoodies and bats
That ain’t shit compared to one small cat with gats
When we came here we cut off all kind circulation
Breathin, eatin, the whole situation
When we do our shit we do our shit for real”
HE HAD BY FAR THE HARDEST BIG TRIBUTE VERSE
“Right now I know you missin it, smokin in peace
After all this bullshit don’t cease, huh big
Right now, you and pac in harmony, probably huggin
While everybody from brooklyn to west coast is buggin
All these gang wars, big, show me a sign
As for your son i’ma raise shorty like he was mine (no doubt)
It seems that the devil got his stinkin back whooped
And we should pray for jesus, and ask for forgiveness
I can remember all the studio time, getting twisted
Bottle after bottle, bacardi lime, I miss it
We clicked like heels when we first met the
Junior ma-f-i-a and big po-ppa
Nearly broke down four times writin this verse
Filled with wild madness and sadness it hurts
But ain’t no need to cry, cause right now, where you at
Is more laced than any place a millionaire lived at
But it’s sad that it takes that for us to unite
The only time you see your family is funeral night
Christopher wallace, frank white, holdin it down
I guess you with the real king in new york now”
“I give it to you point blank, in your mom’s place
So like +Point Break+ with a mask on with president’s face
clear my space, when big sheek crash the boards
Y’all aint just mark niggas, y’all Hallmark niggas
With all that soft ass writin might as well be in cards
You gon’ gamble with your life, when I launch these torpedos
that’ll shoot the crack out your ass at Foxwood Casinos
Just me and my gambino’s drunk as fuck
with a time parking lot DVD in a trunk
I been drunk most my life, don’t ask me why
Through ninth grade, I ain’t go to high school
I went to school high
And I don’t care what y’all got, that shit don’t excite me
I’m black and deadly and my burner just like me
and I’m quick to stick one of y’all on tour
with the Sheraton, see what yours can be mine
without, inheritin, give up your chains
and them little diamonds in your ear
Is it worth your family cryin and the doctor yellin “clear”?
“I know niggas in the clink
That send pipe bombs thru sinks
That got dough and still wanna stick y’all wit minks
Y’all would think y’all was jinxed wit a month of bad luck
I’m that huntin muthafucka and guess who da duck
I’m Elmer and you Daffy like the Looney cartoon
But this ain’t no cartoon
My bullets clear out the room
I said “Boy, try to learn the fundamentals here, son.”
Like that rooster and that chicken hawk I teach about a gun
I place my money on one
I’ll pull it out, you’ll run
I wave it in front of ya son and both y’all is done . . . Blah!
For God’s sakes, what a nigga gotta do to make a half a million
Must I wave it at yo’ children?
Run up in yo’ buildin and go straight for the bank
Got the coke saran-wrapped at the bottom of the tank
I know those tricks
Ya suppliers, Papi and them, I know those dicks
Give me those bricks
Now, wild out niggas”
“50 you a rat, you a coward, you a snitch
You a bitch motherfucker now hear this {*tch-tch BOOM*}
All you talk about is money and sales
What you need to talk about is all them niggaz that you put in them jails
We don’t dry snitch niggaz (nah) rappin and whisperin
Knowin that the rap police listenin
Homey know just what he doin, who career he swipe
That’s aight, Ja got him, niggaz say goodnight (aight)
I’ma blast ’til I go on the run
Just mad at Game cause he ain’t like them, he ain’t your son (bitches)
50 this, 50 that; nigga 50 whack (50 whack)
Nigga laid you down, when you gon’ get him back? (woo)
And when you gon’ say somethin hot on the track? (never)
I guess the next time you get hit’ll be your back
A fucked up nigga, let me get down wit’chu
I make sure niggaz don’t hit you - ha ha
Hey yo maybe if I siiiiing, I’ll be rich (should I sing?)
And maybe if I rat on you, I’ll be rich (or maybe I should rat on you)
Maybe if I crossover, I’ll be rich (I need to cross over I think)
I wanna beeee, I wanna be, just like that 50 bitch (how can I be like that nigga)
Maybe if I siiiiing, I’ll be rich (should I sing son?)
And maybe if I rat on you, I’ll be rich (who should I give up?)
Maybe if I crossover, I’ll be rich (I need to cross over)
I wanna beeee, I wanna be, just like that 50 bitch
Hey yo Banks you got a half-assed flow
But fuckin with homey, all you gon’ get is half-assed dough
And where the fuck was you at wit’cha big-ass face
When I was writin “Benjamins” with ‘Kiss, Diddy and Ma$e
I ain’t heard of you homey, ’til you blew up quick
But back then I’m pretty sure that you was on my dick (
I dropped L.O.X., chest to chest, back to back
On Clue when, “If You Think I’m Jiggy” was whack
I wore shiny suits, niggaz knew I didn’t belong
But even back then I still never sang on a song
I’ve been white-tee’d ou, white haze and hash
It’s fucked up, 50 makin y’all wear that trash
What he do, put your clothes on the bed, put your sneakers on the floor
and tell you what hat to put on your head? (ha ha ha)
You lil’ muh’fuckers to me daddy
And I don’t give a fuck if the doors lift up in your Caddy
Go Young Buck (go Young Buck) that’s my nigga (that’s my nigga)
Even if 50 don’t let you get bigger
I see you run around stage wit’cha shirt off; you need some food
You ’bout as big as “The Passion of Christ” dude
And I still got love for the dirty South
But I ain’t gon’ respect no nigga with my dick in his mouth
G-Unit gon’ be gone once Dre bounce on you (G-G-G-G-G)
And it’s fucked up cause Eminem tried to warn you
You ain’t as big as these white dudes that cut your check
Think so? Wait and see who they go to next (D-Block)
You forgot about the hood scramps
Everybody ain’t workin with bricks, some niggaz got gramps
No new guns, just them shits that jam
Fuck it though, I’ma ride wit’chu do the death
D-Block muh’fucker ’til there’s no one left
G-G-G-G-G-G… the fuck outta here!
I CAN KEEP GOING. IM NOT SAYING HE IS THE NICEST OUT BOY HE IS WAY NICER THAN YOU THINK A WHOLE LOT NICER.
April 17th, 2006 at 11:49 am

April 17th, 2006 at 12:08 pm

April 17th, 2006 at 12:17 pm
“ox something get your publishing back/

SHEEK nigga that 3rd nigga that weak nigga/
that changed they listen when i speak nigga/
i’m a boss/

get the case tossed ” - sheek
April 17th, 2006 at 12:32 pm
yeah, alot of people sleep on sheek. yeah your right, he’s not top ten, but he’s damn close. i used to hate him so much back in the day, once his first album dropped that all changed. and i realized how stupid i was cause i would start listening to older freestyles and appreciate them.
April 17th, 2006 at 3:21 pm
EXACTLY I USED TO BE LIKE YEAH THE LOX ARE NICE BUT THAT SHEEK DUDE IS TRASH. PEOPLE ACT LIKE HE IS JUST ANOTHER YAYO OR BIZARRE OR SOME SHIT BUT SERIOUSLY HE IS NICE. HE IS BETTER THAN 85% OF THE INDUSTRY NOW SO STOP THE HATE
April 17th, 2006 at 6:16 pm
whoa! i’m done man, you’re putting yayo and 8ball in the same category!! you’re crazy!!
April 17th, 2006 at 6:17 pm
i’m not hating either, i listen to the Lox and J-Hood, but Sheek stays on the stores shelves
April 17th, 2006 at 6:56 pm
I DID PUT THEM IN THE SAME CATEGORY AND IM SORRY FOR THAT I WAS EXAGGERATING IVE BEEN ON RECORD AS SAYING THERE SHOULD BE A BATTLE WITH YAYO BENZINO CHINGY AND A COUPLE OTHER DUDES I CANT THINK OF RIGHT NOW CAUSE IM DUMB HIGH ( JUST GOT BACK FROM WORK THAT SOURS GOT ME IM TELLIN YOU )MAYBE SOME OTHERS CAN HELP REMIND WHO WE ALWAYS SAY SHOULD BATTLE FOR WORST RAPPER EVER, BUT 8BALL AND MJG ARE NEVER MENTIONED I GIVE THEM MORE RESPECT THEN I REALLY WAS SAYING EXAGERATING A BIT BUT HONESTLY SHEEK IS STILL NICER IN MY OPINION
April 17th, 2006 at 7:05 pm
well thats your opinion, so i’ll respect
April 17th, 2006 at 7:06 pm
but in my opinion, i think 8ball’s better
April 17th, 2006 at 7:30 pm
AND THATS ALL GOOD HOMIE ITS ALL OPINION SO WONT ARGUE THAT
SIDENOTE I REMBEMBERED SPIDER LOC WOULD BE IN THE WORST RAPPER BATTLE
April 17th, 2006 at 7:35 pm
yeah spider loc could be in worst rapper list somewhere
April 17th, 2006 at 9:23 pm
did you know Spider Loc has a joint with Ras Kass? talk about getting murdered on your own shit.
April 17th, 2006 at 10:55 pm
^^^ real talk my boy did the track for that song. its called too much $$$. unfortunitly he didnt get the offical credits da riffs pretty much jacked him for it but my boy did that track, he also did another one with rassie and he has done a couple more for spider loc. he also did a track for main-o and some other shit
April 18th, 2006 at 1:30 am
i dont even believe that spider loc is even a real crip, why the fuck would you add the loc in your name? i heard his brothers a actual crip, but i doubt the wack spider is even from a gang
