I never heard of this That Diesel DVD series in my life but they flooded Youtube with a bunch of freestyle and interview footage yesterday so they’re alright with me. Being on a label doesn’t mean you have a career. Not being on a label doesn’t mean that you don’t have a career as well. Prime example: I work alongside a group named J*Davey (who I plug as much as possible), a Black, alternative group. They’re signed to an indie, no single on the radio, no album for sale… yet they sell out tickets to every show. Not to mention their official bootleg sells out every show. Why? Because people support their music and love them as artists. This same group is about to do about 5 shows overseas next month. Why would these club promoters in Europe be booking a Black alternative group with no album or radio spins? This same group will be opening for The Roots in NYC in May @ Radio City Music Hall along with some of the most respected names in hip hop. Why? Because they have a fan base, supporters who dig artists with integrity. Nelly… is slowly fading. 50… is slowly fading. Why? Because their music is purchased mostly by teeny boppers who are THE MOST TRENDIEST CONSUMERS IN THE WORLD. When the teens grow up, then the music grows old. Why? Because the artists is no longer relevant to society. LL is the only one who has achieved such longevity and status because he has integrity. He didn’t start out saying he was gangsta and then started singing to emulate the trend. He sticks to his moniker, Ladies Love.
I said that to say that as long as Budden don’t change, he will always have a career. Mos Def, Common, Talib, Boot Camp, Ghost, and a few others have been around longer than your favorite RAPPERS (not MC’s) and have sold less. And guess what? They’re still here…

Today i went to best buy and futureshop to get the new ghost fishscale. i went out and got everything ready a blunt and 2 grams of the best pot i could find and was going to smoke that shit and listen to the cd cover to cover, unfortunatly both stores would not let me get the shit saying that the release date is april 4th, i was like what the fuck i fucking read all over March 28. I forgot to mention im from Canada, now what the fuck is that though i cant copp a fucking cd the day its supposed to come out.
Anyways after i decided i wasnt going to download any shit from the cd and just let the cd happen, pluis i like ghost i dont mind givin em like the 3.50 or so he makes on that cd anyways. instead in a rage i smoked that blunt and downloaded it, but dont worry im still going to copp this shit on april 4th and bump it till about 6 months like i did with pretty tone and bulletproof wallets, matter of fact im still bumpin wallets.

Shit, that’s how it goes in music. You can’t really predict what going to happen with an artist. Just because Jay Z is who he is, how many real “heatmakers” have they produced from the Roc A Fella camp? What about 50? Eminem? They can get you a shot, but if the public ain’t feelin your project, they just ain’t feelin it. And plus, stuff like that happens all the time. MOP ain’t put out a cd with the Roc. You never know the story behind the story.

A lot of times people dont buy music just because they think they are talented. They just like that brand. Britney Spears fans KNOW that Britney is not that good of a singer, they just like the pop tunes they make.
Thats why We have The GRAMMY”S, OSCARS, EMMY’S and BET AWARDS, to judge the Talent.
You would have to be an idiot to make Talent based on sales. People know whats good and whats not. Take movies. I like black independant movies that are bootleg. The acting may be garbage and is no way oscar capable but I still like it.
Most People know what talented is and isn’t. People dont always listen to things based on talent. Thats the distinction. Talent does not equal sales. There is a set of criteria in any genre of Art. That’s why things are studied and learned.
