I was even letting him slide for the numerous G-Unit features, while also allowing Curtis to run XXL for a day (which also led to the beef with Budden when he dissed him puttin’ his verse from “Focus” in the Negro Please column). When you think about it, isn’t Elliot the 50 Cent of hip hop magazines? Let me put it into perspective: 50 dissed Ja and put his career on hiatus, only to become him and be recognized for biting Ja’s style. Elliot dissed Zino and shut the Source down, only to jack their style and deliver the same biased views as the Source did.
This is why my $5 stay in my pocket when I’m in Barnes and Nobles (or any other store). I’d rather just read the b.s. while I’m there. Rap mags are turning into the media garbage that once was the outlet and alternative to “The Man’s” ideology on hip hop. But instead of “fighting the power”, they’re becoming the power. It’s to the point where I read alternative mags (Mass Appeal, Urb, etc.) in hope of some unbiased journalism. Either that, or I’m in one of my good books.

I’m pretty shocked too..but as I sift through my countless XXL mags I realize just how many of them are in praise of G-Unit and, although I can admit I was enthralled w/5-0 in his mixtape & “Get Rich” days, as soon as that ended I wasn’t feeling his shift. I can’t hate on him, but….eh.
Regardless, to see Elliot swoop in and almost take G-Unit under his wing, only to let them practically dominate the mag is as close to unethical as the operation of a magazine can get. I know, I know their covers obviously sell for him to continually employ this tactic, however it’s enough.
BUT for him to blatantly put down Def Jam like that –GRANTED WE ALL KNOW THIS PHOTO IS FAR FROM A FALSE INTERPRETATION OF WHAT THE DEAL IS– is damn wrong.
Funny shit..in fact, those pictures are almost always funny, but the mag is obviously biased and, although I do love me some XXL (those articles are pretty hearty and the mag can be a good read as a whole), I’ma have to agree..my $ will have to stay in my wallet.
P.S. Ain’t no WAY for Mobb Deep to put out serious numbers under G-Unit! Those niggas don’t have the crossover appeal 50 has, and 50 isn’t a PART of Mobb– his appeal trickled down to Banks, etc because all the mainstream kids (i.e. White) saw him with them. Not to mention those beats that most (mainstream) “fans” will get addicted to and want to dance to. Hell I can’t lie..the beats get me too.
End of the day tho, Hav & P don’t have that appeal…maybe I’ll turn to TRL. If I see their new vid (..that beat’s kinda crazy too) climbing THAT chart, maybe I’ll believe they’ll do some serious numbers.

The Bottom line is this, Bleek is a Mediocre Rapper with No Personality and he go on through affiliation. He should be happy for what he got through loyalty. If he wants more for his career he needs to put in the work. Not just making songs but making the fans want to hear about him.
Thats why I respect people like Kanye even though he seems a little gay, the DUDE gets out and touches people. Whether its collabos, Interviews, or just appearances. People are only interested in people who get out there and make people want to know about them.
Memphis Bleek is (no disrespect) a house rapper. He don’t get out there and touch people. As soon as he got in the game he was supposed to be getting on other peoples tracks, making appearances, having his feelings and opinions known. Generating a buz.
You can be the best rapper out there, but if you have no Personality People don’t care about you - only hard core fans who appreciate lyrics - and there are not that many of them in this day
