Memphis Bleek: All Grown Up
I was reading this interview Bleek did with HiphopDx and I couldn’t help but be amazed at how level headed and mature he sounds, especially when asked about Cam’ron and his anti-chancleta campaign against his father. He also had some choice words on my favorite subject: How the East Coast never fell off and doesn’t need to be brought back to anywhere.
On Cam’s dis track to Jay:
I feel that’s a coward move. Def Jam is on 50th . You live on 145th. You can drive 60 blocks and come see that man. You don’t have to make a record. If there’s a problem, do something. We work 9 to 5. Our cars are parked on the same block every single day. If there’s a problem, do something. Don’t talk about me and now I can’t see you. Where you at? That’s wack to me. You ain’t going to hear me making a record about nobody. If it’s a problem, I’m coming to see you. Straight up. Address that problem to me to my face like a real man. And I don’t have security, never did. I will e-mail anyone in the rap game my itinerary, only me and my homies. You never hear Memphis Bleek going off the limb talking about nobody. I don’t have no problem with nobody. I don’t think about other people that much. I’m happy when a person doing his thing, sells millions of records. I’m glad. Another successful African-American like myself coming through the same struggles I did. I feel like a sucker by hating on his situation. But hey, you open the door on us and you give us leeway to do whatever we feel to you.
I completely expected him to be like "F*ck that nigga, I’m in the studio right now working on a whole mixtape dissing him, shit is gonna be fire!" I guess he figures if Jay isn’t stressing it why should he. I probably wouldn’t be worrying about much either if I was "in the will somewhere."

well quite frankly I think Jay-Z lives by the expression “keep your friends close, but your enemies closer” and I don’t think he regards Cam as a serious threat to anything he has or does.
Cam raps at a 6th grade level, Jay-Z could teach at rapping college, so basically there you have it.
It’s a question of education and that “street education” that dipset members are so proud of only goes so far in the business world. Sure you can shoot people all you want, but when it comes time to start making real money (see: corporate money) they are like a white kid from Montana walking through Harlem in the middle of the night dressed like a cowboy, now you know they stand out like a bad example of what NOT TO DO.
So to sum it up, Jay won because he plays in a different league.

Yeah, Dipset will be dismantled by mid ‘07. I’m calling it and puttin all bets up. Bleek did the right thing though. I agree with Cipher on waitin’ for a better Bleek album to drop. For some reason I still haven’t given up hope on him. When I listen to his Coming of Age Album, I don’t think he lost a step. Just never tapped into his full potential. He needs to vacate dolo to an island or Japan for a few months and just cool out… get some inspiration.
I think Cam seriously needs therapy and perhaps a warm, manly embrace from some of his peers (no homo).

I like Bleek but I need to call it like I see it. Maybe he has not “made a record” dissin’ anyone, but I sure have heard a few freestyles. As an emcee I think Bleek is fire. When I listen to Reasonable Doubt it amazes me that he was only 16! It’s a shame that he has not been able to make any albums comparable to his skills.
As for the homie Cam. Why? Who gassed him up like that? It’s like when they do the first few weeks of Idol; I think why wouldn’t a family member or a friend tell them they shouldn’t be trying to sing. Not saying that Cam shouldn’t rap, but; why didn’t anybody tell him not to go at Jay like that? He needs new friends. However, the worst is Dame cosigning in the video.

I skimmed through Bleek’s album and it seemed alright. I know that he was definitely doing his thing on that mixtape he had with Papoose a while back. I don’t know what it is about Bleek but he’s just missing something that would make me want to listen to him. I can’t imagine sitting down and just letting a whole Bleek album play. and not because it’s bad, but because I’ll be secretly hoping for a Jay verse the whole time. Bleek is actually a pretty good fucking rapper, he was just destined to be a in Jay’s shadow for his whole career.

Regardless of what you guys may think about Cam’ (personally I think his rhyming ability is sub-par), you gotta give it to duke, he keeps his name bubbling, and that’s the whole point. Once people forget about you, it’s over…. And one thing that I want to get off my chest; Jay-z is grossly overrated!……I kind of respect Cam for going at him; same thing Jay did with Nas, (who by the way is lyrically superior to them both).
