Elise Neal – King Magazine

Friday, February 17th, 2006

I catch a lot of flack for neglecting my Eye Candy section, so here’s a little Friday fire for you boys. That’s Elise Neal, from Hustle and Flow, and some friends. Sorry ladies, but you’re gonna have to walk with me on this post. If I don’t throw these guys a bone every once in a while they start to get anxious. I mean we can only argue Jay/Nas/50/Cam for so long right?

Jay-Z/Nas Interview Recap and Transcript

I just watched the Jay-Z/Nas interview and it was only a half an hour and all chopped up and peppered with old interview footage and video clips. It was still good to watch because it’s the first time you’re really seeing these two sit down and talk, but you’re better off reading the transcript for the bigger picture. There’s alot in there that was left out of the broadcast, plus it gives you an idea of how they edit this stuff for T.V. to play a certain way. Anyway…

It seemed like there was a little tension in the air when they were discussing the beef. Sway made it a point to bring up specific lines and ask how they each felt after hearing the other’s dis. They both played it relatively well, but you can kind of see what they mean when they say they’re not exactly friends just yet. Jay called Takeover a "figure 4 leg lock" and Nas replied "then I just lit a bomb".

Nas’s beef with 50 and Jay’s beef with Cam came up. They both basically dismissed Cam like he wasn’t even worth mentioning, much less responding to. Nas said he still has love for 50, but he kind of sonned him by saying he brought him up and used to bring him on tour with him, etc. They were asked if they would come to each other’s aid in the event of a beef, and they both said they didn’t think the other would need any help.

Sway made no attempt to hide his thirst for Jay to respond to Cam, to the point where Jay said to him: "If you want the record, just ask for it. Just say, ‘Jay, give me the record.’" Nas later tells Jay that he feels like he has to come out of retirement, and they both go on about how "artistic" they both are. All in all, a good interview, hopefully in the future they’ll release the footage of the whole thing, unedited.

New Busta, Cassidy and Papoose

Here’s a new joint featuring Busta "I’ll Never Tell" Rhymes, "Killer" Cassidy, and Papoose. I understand that’s a J-Dilla beat they’re flowing over, can anybody help me out with that one? All three of them murdered this, but the 2 young boys definitely outshined the old man.

If you go to the Source website, you’ll notice they have a nifty little 100% Benzino Free banner displayed prominently on the homepage. That’s so great. Right next to the banner is an interesting FAQ with new CEO Jeremy Miller.

SOHH has info on the newly reborn mag’s new deal with Image Entertainment.

Meanwhile, in Fantasy Land: Dave Mays has filed suit against the Black Enterprise investment group that now controls the magazine, and Benzino was spotted at a Ranch in Kentucky pricing horses.

BigL.jpg

Damn 7 years. People usually say they can’t believe it’s been this long, but to me it feels like it’s been much longer than that. To paraphrase Chris Rock: Big L is dead, but M.C. Hammer and Vanilla Ice are still alive? What part of the game is that.

Rest in Peace L, and just know that we’re still down here bumping your shit like it was ’96.

Jay-Z: You Can’t Sign Nas

Wednesday, February 15th, 2006

MTV continues to tease us with quotes and snippets from their "All Eyes on Jay-Z and Nas" special that will finally air tomorrow at 11:00 p.m.

"The movement is bigger than what someone says about Nas for the moment…I’ve always had someone say something about me. I’m one of the most crucified artists in the game, thank you! This is what challenges me, what makes me go on. When people have negative things to say, it’s all good."  – Nas

"We’re thinking bigger than what people perceive this as. We’re thinking as responsible, grown men. I know that’s not popular, especially in the state of hip-hop right now, but that’s what it is. We’ve been chosen as leaders. We have to lead. We can’t follow people’s perception of what this union is. I didn’t sign Nas, I partnered with Nas. You can’t sign an artist of Nas’ stature, you can only partner with him."  – Jay

The article also mentions that the two will address their respective beefs with 50 Cent and Cam’ron, as well as Nas’s daughters mother Carmen.

D12 vs. Tommy Lee

Tuesday, February 14th, 2006

tommylee_s.jpg

So you might have heard the rumor that the boys from D12 threw former Motley Crue drummer and Pam Anderson ex, Tommy Lee a beatdown during the Shady Superbowl party. Well group member Proof, staying true to his name, has posted the above post-beatdown picture on his Myspace page. Funny stuff. I bet he knows the name of their band now.

UPDATE: Illseed at AHH has a statement from Tommy Lee himself:  " …I remember saying hey to this Black dude. He said "Hey Tommy Lee" I said, "Hey bro….what up!" So a few steps later I’m at the top of the stairs leaving and BLAM!!! Some dude jumps two-deep over my security guard and friends and clocks me!"

He goes on to say that D12 had nothing to do with it, which makes me wonder why Proof would post that pic n his Myspace page….

Fat Joe Speaks On Shawn and Nasir

Monday, February 13th, 2006

fatjoe.jpg

I know I said no Jay/Nas posts until tomorrow, but this seemed interesting so whatever, sue me. In a recent interview with MuchMusic, Joe had this to say about the Jay/Nas lovefest:

"I used to look up to Nas a lot," Fat Joe told Hannah Sung. "And I don’t even really respect what he did. How do you become a friend to a person who disrespects your baby’s mother? It’s too much ugliness. I almost died, as a hip hop fan, when I heard they were together."

Correct me if I’m wrong, but haven’t Joe and The Little Homey always been on good terms? Why all the sudden hatred because he’s aligned himself with Jay? I guess it has something to do with the long running TS/Rocafella tension. Joe has to know that he’ll never hold the crown in NY, so he’d be smart to keep his mouth shut and hope somebody at Def Jam calls him for a feature.
