BTW- All hope isn’t gone. If we have artists who aren’t simply swayed by the $ and choose to talk about more real subject matter, or maybe just less bullshit….wait —maybe if our ppl would start reacting to the music of artists talking bout real shit…DING DING DING— we could reclaim the essence of HH. For now, the $ isn’t the most important thing; it will eventually come. If we can sway and control the the focus of HH subject matter, make the real music made by real artists cool and popular in our own eyes, pop culture followers will follow us, cuz you know “everybody wanna be a nigga, but no one wants to be a nigga”.

We can’t only associate getting money with HH. If we pump out focused entrepenuers and get more kids in college, we can see a lot more money being generated in the Black community within a generation.
With more of one’s own money, the less dependent he/she is on the contributions of others who will undoubtedly and deservedly want a say in the product that is being produced.

Long story short: sure, for now it looks somewhat glim, but it’s still in our hands. Apprx. 4 labels are running this shit, but if

1) if we can look in the mirror and try to take steps to reclaim what is ours, if HH is destined to stay –and it is– we can still reclaim leverage in our artform
2) the artists already in it can see fit to get off the bandwaggon and stop making bullshit (if that indeed is what they are making) and start contributing something decent to HH society then maybe more ppl will react and go for more real artistry.

Now..what has to come first, the chicken or the egg?

Power is power. There will never be a Black FILM Company that can green light ‘ish nor will there be a Black distribution company.

c. Because folks in the 80′s 90′s failed to “CASH IN” on HH in its toddler years, ain’t no catch up fam.
