J Dilla R.I.P
Damn, this is just awful. The poor guy was only 32.
Hip-Hop producer J-Dilla passed away today (Feb. 10) due to an unspecified ailment. Early reports suggest he succumbed to kidney failure, a medical problem which arose in 2004.
J-Dilla, born James Yancey, was a member of Slum Village and worked with various Hip-Hop artists including Kanye West, Busta Rhymes, A Tribe Called Quest and Common’s Grammy-nominated album, BE.
Here are some of my personal favorite Jay Dee joints:

There’s No One Illa . . .
Than J Dilla . . . Can we have please have a moment of silence . . . For one of the greatest beat maestros that has graced the hip-hop scene — J Dilla aka Jay Dee aka J Dillinger. J Dilla (real name James Yancey) died on Feb. 10 in Los Angeles of kid…

The passing of Dilla is indeed a sad day for hip hop. And its something that only true fans and heads in the industry are able to recognize, ’cause while dude was hella prolific, he somehow managed to stay below radar. Too bad, too, ’cause he was one of the illest. Fuck that top 3 shit, good music is good music and Dilla made great tracks throughout the 90s and into the 21st century.
On a more positive note, its snowing llike fuck here in New Haven, and as such, some of my staff can’t make it to the radio station so me and my homie DJ LOKASH are gonna do a show at 2PM EST of strictly Dilla related tracks. You can get the link to the web stream from wnhu.net
peace and respect

I think the most heartbreaking thing about this is that, after reading about his ailment, they said it could have come from working too hard and neglecting eating. For working too hard to even be a possible contributing factor to his death is a sad but powerful testament to his sincerity. RIP

its so sad to see a BLACK YOUNG MAN, doing something positive and constructive with his life, with real talent pass away. RIP. pizzazzsales.com

this is skyzoo from brooklyn. nyc. i knew dilla as a fan and a friend. this was easily THE GREATEST PRODUCER EVER. point blank period. the man was a genius. people like dr. dre, pharrell, kanye west, just blaze, hi-tek, nottz, dj premier, questlove, pete rock, and countless others have gone on record to admit that they were inspired by/looked up to j dilla (and dilla was younger than most of the aforementioned). he was a man of incredible musical proportions. his latest opus “donuts” is an album that every producer with top 40 hits WISHES they could make, and he crafted it in his hospital bed! he defined “musical genius” and was the coolest person in the world (outside of the music). he was my hero/idol/good friend. someone i looked up to. i cried like a baby when i heard (fuck the macho tuff shit, i CRIED). his tracklist is phenomenal and calling him “ahead of his time” is an understatement. he stayed out of the lime light and preferred the studio as opposed to poppin bottles and cheesing in videos. he mastered every form of music when incorporating it into hip hop. i kno this blog is long but fuck that, he deserves it. for more info on his discography (he did everything from q-tip’s “vivrant thing” and “breathe & stop” to janet jackson’s “got til its gone”, go to http://www.stonesthrow.com. dilla knew he was soon leaving us, so he completed 2 more LP’s in addition to “donuts”, one entitled “the shinig” and another entitled “jay love japan”. both will be released this year. dilla, may rest in peace. you changed my life forever.
