A Dr. Dre produced Jay-Z album? The source is the NY Post, so you know, grain of salt and all:

"RETIRED" rapper Jay-Z, who now toils as president of music label Def Jam, has industry sources snickering – because it seems the narcissistic hip-hop mogul can’t stand life out of the recording booth. One music business insider in L.A. for the Grammys snipes, "The big gossip of the Grammys is about Jay-Z. After saying he was going to retire when he became president of Def Jam so he wouldn’t compete with other artists on his label, he has a record coming out in June. To make matters worse, Dr. Dre is producing the record, which is huge because Dre hasn’t produced an album in years. Dre is on rival label Interscope, and while Def Jam and Interscope are both under the Universal umbrella, people have their noses out of joint. This album will be huge. But first of all, Jay is not using a Def Jam producer, and second of all, he will be competing with his own artists. Not cool. His ego is so big he can’t not release an album. He is a president of a label and should not be doing this."

Jay has a great ear for taking beats from different people and making them fit together. Having a hot Just Blaze beat followed by a soulful Kanye track is part of the reason his albums generally sound very cohesive. If one producer did his whole album, I think we would be wishing that he took some beats from someone else.

- The classic drumlines you (if your old enough and didn’t start listening to N.W.A. just because of Eminem or The Game saying their name) heard from the “Straight Outta Compton” and “Niggaz4Life” albums were done by DJ Yella. Where’s his credit?
- Dre’s earlier rhymes were written by Ice Cube and MC Ren. Dre doesn’t rap, he recites. (I even heard Jay-Z wrote Dre’s verses in “Forgot About Dre,” not sure if its true though.)
- Dre use to talk about never smoking weed and saying it was bad (listen to “Express Yourself”), then came out with his debut solo “The Chronic.” Hypocrite.
- Ask 2Pac and Eazy-E about Dre’s gangsta, if it’s real or not… oh wait.
- The G-Funk sound that Dre “pioneered” was stolen from some guy named Big Hutch or something like that.

^ Above, Sorry son that wouldn’t make sense. That is ridiculous from a business standpoint as Cam’ron is signed to Asylum/Warner. Now Jay setting it up to gain publicity for himself would consequently tighten competition as Cam’rons album would sell well.
Dre is not doing a Jay-Z album and if he were it wouldn’t be out til 2007 at earliest. Infact I wouldn’t expect a release from Jay this year.
Lets just look forward to Nas’ release.

someone mentioned earlier that dre is a hypocrite for saying he doenst smoke…..then releasing an album at some four or five years later called the chronic. Hell, I call that change, nothing more. A hypocrite is someone who actually does something he says he is against at the same time. he may have been strickly shooting 8-balls at that time. but really who gives an f? we are talkin about some weed!
To comment on dre and how he makes his music you need to keep in mind that in EVERY musical genre besides hiphop the producer is considered the person who puts the pieces together for the song to come to fruition….a la the producer of a movie. hiphop is the only genre in which the person who makes the instrumentation gets the credit as producer the majority of the time. In the true sense of the word dre prodoces his shit. in the hiphop sense of the word things may or may not be coming straight of his mpc(s) but you sure as hell know that he has a hand in it somehow as his shit is sonicly the best in the game…….every time.
Besides, if you read your recording/ productions mags (and Im not talking about scratch) then you will know that he is actually quite open about his team and who does what.
