I may be about two years late on this post but fuck it, I got something to say.... Growing up when rap STARTED and witnessing the changes that various MC's brought to the game, I saw LL Cool J make Hip Hop more rugged and aggressive with the way his spit his rhymes, I saw Public Enemy FORCE PEOPLE TO THINK ABOUT OTHER SHIT, same with KRS-1 and Big Daddy Kane and many more...BUT the one MC that made the biggest impact on Hip Hop, similar to a FUCKIN' Sunami, well my friends...
THAT WAS RAKIM...it was incredible when you first heard it, he was way ahead of his time, FORCING EVERY RAPPER IN THE GAME TO STEP THEIR SHIT UP...he was simply the best and is STILL THE BEST...PERIOD

Yo sons,
I guess only artistically -intelligent masterminds can appreciate the rap skills of the legendary RAKIM. Bringing the most lyrical rhymes from the day, Rakim has made a not just brought a name to the rap industry, he brought a legacy. Believing he is one of the founders of the rap scene , rakim will never be underestimated for his achievement. Yes, the industry now is full of shoulder swaying( good look barrcode) and grill spitting gangstas whos self induced images are more focused on appearance than rap motion itself. Sucker Mc's are out thier for the grabbing and people take notice of these lyricals artists, but you can never speak that my niggah Rakim will be a artifact in the rap game...Looking forward to his album... Till next time....

^^^ it is sad i mean rakim finally comeing out should be discussed much more but i think it has to do with 2 main things. 1) ill admit hearing about rakim possibly coming out doesnt excite me anymore ( because ive been hearing he will forever but 18th letter was god knows how long ago ) now when i actually hear the new ra then i will be excited and i think alot of people really waiting on ra feel exactly the same. 2) honestly i think its because all of the real long threads have to do with 5-0 and the g-unit stans come hard trying to convince us 5-0 is real and that in turn gets the other side ( yup the g-unit haters ) all riled up and they start blasting back and no matter what the tread starts out as it turns into someone or something vs. 50 and that hasnt happened on this one. but either way i hope the album does come soon

What is sad is that this gets 25 comments and this is a rap/hip hop blog. If any of the many false flagging "rappers" would have been the subject it would have had double or triple the comments posted. It would not even need to be anything that would need a comment.

babyGcanada, yo son, can't hold a candle to todays's greats? that statement is a contradiction onto itself.
Let's bring back the real hip hop. the lyrically sensations that impacted us without the blatant, repetative use of ice, slang'in, and tired ass shoulder swings. like that nigga 50 got any ryhthm. Not saying Ra's usher, but he ain't front'in> Jada couldn't of hit it any closer when we said dude "wasn't comfortable in his own skin".
Ra gonna be Ra....scientific style. Forget numbers, true heads will know what's up. Bling don't stay shiny forever.

hum... @ Demiks

I just listened to PIF again.. the album. Rap is so much better now.. the only thing I would change today is LESS HOOKS.. I hate how every song is sung. I miss rappers having flow.. and less melody.. I don't know if I"m saying it correctly but that's what it is. Overall, I think if Rakim came out today he would need a "special" producer if he expects to blow like the rest of the Aftermath crowd ( plat stars ). He couldn't release PIF today and get the time of day... all you hounds would buy it sure, but since when was the industry interested in hiphop for the quality? it's all about numbers and to be frank I think they didn't release it because it was too old school, he needs more lines, better quips.. his old songs can't hold a candle to today's greats.. there has definitely been an evolution to trickier lines and more talent even in the midst of the hipPop generation.

Well the few releases we did hear while Rakim was on Aftermath were incredible. "Addicted" & "Watcher Pt 2" .. the Rakim album was my most anticipated album and I hope he finds a major label, I'd hate to hear him over week production and subpar mixed tracks with a release on Koch.

50 even said that Rakim used to be his favourite rapper (in "Hate It or Love It").

Ra didn't leave aftermath because of ego, he completed an entire album and Jimmy Iovine told him it wasn't commercial enough. They didn't wan't hip-hop over at Aftermath, they wanted pop music.

Like 2 years ago there was a petition trying to get it released, but internet petitions don't really do anything but get a bunch of people all get ignored for the same reason.

There were a couple songs from the Aftermath record on mixtapes, like "Welcome to the Hood."

now im defintely with you nyc. i came in this thread and saw people talking about ra takeing out 50 and felt sick. i mean i hope ra wouldnt even acknowledge a beef especially with someone like 5-0 now. i will be greatly disappointed if he came back beefing with anyone i just want to hear some new ra not see him beefing and lets hope 50 and ra can stay seperate, however i did recently see in an interview where rakim talked about how much he respects and admires eminem and how much he would like to work with him ( and i was just thinking then how come you him and dre couldnt work it out ) but anyway just bring that heat ra
