damn hip hop has changed so much, nobody out today can touch the old stuff… even as late as 96/97 things have completely changed.

This is the best thing yall ever posted. Credit where credit is do. “Props to the Kool Moe Dee, he elevated
and changed the r-records like the new rap language
Before the first four length LP’s
There was abstract brothas like the one from LZ
Run DMC broke crew in ’83
Outta Queens, started rapping hard over drum machines
808′s started shakin’ up floors ["The World is Yours" Sample]
We takin’ rock’s complex metaphors ["T La Rock" Sample]
A primary influence on L.L. Cool J
T La Rock’s futurism must’ve been respectable
‘Cuz Tragedy from Queens was young but very technical
Sham was eloquent, Chris was intelligent
The ‘R’ was all of the above with added elements
Slick Rick the Ruler was a street-made producer
Ultramagnetic had the vision for the future
Big Daddy Kane getting raw at The Appolo and
Kool G Rap was probably the sickest of all of them
Jaz from the BK, Mercy and Finesse from the BX
Prince Paul and Pharoe came next
Wu with the G-Z-A, G-F-K
N-A-S one of the best out to date
Any MC that’s added on to the list
Pump your fist, but first give praise to the true scientists

This is weird, cause I just bought Illmatic (along with Big L’s “Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous”.) The CD case had a black inset (like old CD’s) and says made in ’94. I thought I had bought a re-issue. I had to pick it up, because it was the last on the rack.

January 12th, 2006 at 1:17 pm
wow.
this album was my entire world in 94. my yellow sony brick walkman & my headphones were ALWAYS glued to my side. this album changed my life. it inspired me to write, to express MYself. it has had such a profound affect on me that i even made it the subject of my Grad school admissions essay (and i got in & obtained my MFA). but wow…i LOVED this. my only question is…why hasn’t Nas worked with Pete Rock again? “The World Is Yours” is, IMO, his GREATEST track. it’s haunting piano, pete’s deep voice singing the chorus, and Nas’ lyrics…you couldn’t get no better.
thank you for this….it made my day.

THIS GGG UNIT NIGGA IS OBVIOUSLY A KID….SO UR COMMENTS DONT COUNT….! FOR U TO EVEN COMPARE ANY OF 50′S WORK TO ILLMATIC IS CRAZY. 50 CENT HIMSELF WOULDNT….DOESN’T THINK ANY OF HIS WORK IS BETTER THAN THAT. IM SURE BEING FROM QUEENS OR FROM NY…OR FROM THAT ERA OF HIP HOP PERIOD ONE OF 50′S MAIN INFLUENCES IN GEETING IN RAP WAS ILLMATIC…AND NAS…LIKE COUNTLESS OTHER RAPPERS… AND I AINT EVEN A NAS FAN LIKE THAT…BUT PROPS WHERE PROPS AND TRUTH IS DO!

Yeah Ggggunit lol candy shop, and just a lil bit speaks for itself One of the worst lyrical songs ever made. An insult to the essence of hiphop and piggy bank ..the biggest mistake he ever did, Nas didn’t even bother to reply and jadakiss murdered him.
