Bitter Vibes?

Monday, December 12th, 2005

It looks like a certain Vibe staffer is a little unhappy with their work environment and went and started an anonymous blog to air out some of the dirty laundry. So far there are only 3 posts up, but provided they haven’t found the mole yet, I expect there to be some good stuff posted here in the future.

From Bittervibes:

Lord, help me find another job before those critters at Vibe Magazine suck the fucking life out of me. The place is a cess pool full of marginally talented men and women who sit around all day smelling their own shit! There’s this one Asian Editor who knows as much about Black music and hip hop as Adolf Hitler. He thinks Young Jeezy is the greatest rapper alive. Speaking of Young Jeezy, he is not attractive and his music is wack. It’s like he got that shit out of a crackjack box.

Why is Mimi Valdez still the editor in chief of Vibe. Hasn’t she dragged the magazine down long enough? Her latest misstep is having 15 year old Chris Brown on the cover. Why? Why? Is she trying to get her next gig as EIC of Right On! magazine????

LOX Get Their Publishing

Friday, December 9th, 2005

LOXjpg.jpg

The LOX and Diddy have reached an agreement in their dispute over ownership of their publishing rights.

From AHH:

“What he did was sweet. He came back [with his offer] and I almost jumped out my seat,” Styles P said to Angie Martinez. “Basically, he gave us all our publishing back. He didn’t have to do what he did. In the business world, what he did, was like a four-leaf clover. The results was great.”

Styles said both parties assembled today with their lawyers and made a mutually satisfactory decision in a 45-minute meeting.

“What he did for us, he didn’t have to do. What he did for us was splendid. He made it so much easier. He made our business beautiful,” Styles continued.

I gotta come clean, a friend of mine close to the D Block camp tipped me off that something this was about to go down like 2 weeks ago, but I didn’t post it due to lack of a corroborating source. You all know the high journalistic standards that Nah Right holds itself to, so I know you understand my decision.

A Great Day in Atlanta

(Click for bigger image.)

Here’s the Great Day in Atlanta pic that was taken last month. It features pretty much every artist from Atlanta and is a recreation of the famous Great Day in Harlem picture taken by Art Kane in 1958. Good idea and all, it’s just too bad XXL already did it back in ’98 with rappers that people actually care about. No lie, I recognize about 3 people in this picture.

8 Grammy nods for ‘Ye

Thursday, December 8th, 2005

 Ye.jpg

Kanye West has picked up 8 Grammy nominations including nods for Album of the Year and Song of the Year for Goldigger. Kanyeezy has stated that if he doesn’t win big this year there’s gonna be a problem, leading many to speculate that the Chicago rapper may turn the usually stuffy awards ceremony into a replay of the 2004 Vibe Awards, or worse, the 2000 Source Awards. Given Kanye’s history of violence, I would imagine the academy will be taking extra security measures to ensure the safety of all attendees. Other nominess include Mariah Carey and John Legend both of who also received 8 nominations. View the full list of Nominees here.

Def Jam vs. Interscope

Wednesday, December 7th, 2005

DefJam_Inter.jpg

Who had the better year? Both labels had some big records as well as some high profile flops (cough, cough, Yayo, ahem, Bleek). If we’re talking numbers, I think Interscope has it when you add up the combined sales of Game and 50′s album. However, this is Nah Right and we don’t talk numbers. So album for album and song for song who wins? As much as I want Jay to win and 50 to lose, Def Jam was on the R&B tip a little too hard for my taste in 2005. Especially when they have completed albums from people like Redman and Ghostface that they act like they don’t want to release. On the other hand, 50′s album was trash and he wouldn’t let Styles P drop.  To tell you the truth, the only decent records to come out of Interscope this year in my opinion were Be and The Documentary. The only albums from Def Jam that I really enjoyed were the Kanyeezy and the Beanie joints. Now that I’m thinking about it, these two labels that are supposed to be the two powerhouses of the Hip Hop majors, aren’t making very much good music at all are they? What do you think, am I buggin’ or did neither of these labels win this year?

Foxy fires Lawyer

Wednesday, December 7th, 2005

foxy_brown.jpg

Foxy Brown has fired her lawyer, Joseph Tacopina, allegedly because he discussed her hearing loss with the media. This seems a little strange to me since Foxy herself has spoken openly with the media about her condition. The obvious question that comes to my mind though is: If she’s deaf, how the hell did she know he was talking about her?

From SOHH:

Foxy was actually at her lawyer’s side when the comments were made, and despite whatever hearing condition she might have she was unhappy enough to fire her lawyer for the unauthorized public testimony, particularly since she says the details Tacopina shared were inaccurate.

That’s funny stuff right there, she was standing next to him when he made the comments.  Ha Ha. Meanwhile, Foxy’s lawyer denies that his statements had anything to do with the seperation, stating that it was caused by a difference in opinion on how the case should be handled.

Kanye wants his damn Album of the Year Grammy or there’s gonna be problems.

Does jail time hurt record sales?

Em gets back with Kim. I guarantee they talked him into this in rehab. The dumbasses probably never heard ‘Kim’

Ridiculously long, yet very informative and entertaining Jaz-O interview. He airs out everybody from Nas to Jay-Z to Big Daddy Kane to 50.

Ethan Brown on the DVD mixtape phenomenon.

Corporate Grafitti Sucks Balls. Well said.

Looks like Fitty’s Mojo went missing.

SOHH has an interview with the Lorenzo brothers attorney who is now 1-0 with the feds.

T Pain is one of these guys that I literally just heard of last week for the first time in my life. Anyway, if anybody cares, AHH Rumors says that he got his chain jacked.

NYCNN has a fire new Papoose joint – Flashback – on some back in the day reminisce shit.
