Tookie’s Funeral
The funeral for executed Crips co-founder Stanley ‘Tookie’ Williams was held today in Los Angeles. Snoop and Jesse Jackson delivered eulogies, and a tape recorded message from Tookie was played in which he urged attendees to give children an alternative to the streets and "teach them to avoid our destructive footsteps….and promote peace."
It’s been estimated that some 2000 mourners showed up to pay their respects, and while I can appreciate the connection that the streets feel to Tookie, they may have gone a little overboard with the bouncing lowriders. Other ghetto goings on at the service included dudes throwing up gang signs and smoking weed, people hawking Tookie T-Shirts, reports of gunfire nearby, and a SWAT team courtesy of the LAPD.
Williams body will be cremated and his ashes are to be scattered in Souh Africa as he requested.
