Jay-Z Sued Over Roc-A-Fella Hand Gesture
Pro wrestler Diamond Dallas Page has filed a lawsuit in Federal Court in Los Angeles alleging copyright infringement for Hov’s use of the diamond hand gesture that has come to be the symbol of Roc-a-fella Records. Page claims that he has been using the "Diamond Cutter" signal for the last decade inside the ring and out as a trademark of his wrestling persona as well as on the cover of his recent book "Yoga for Regular Guys".
Ok, so my question is, can you even copyright a goddamn hand gesture? If so, then I’m about to register the peace sign and the middle finger, and clean up on royalties. Seriously though, this lawsuit is obviously a result of Jay’s new status as rap’s wealthiest artist. I mean if that’s not the case, then why isn’t Page suing Nas, who has clearly been throwing up the diamond since ’94.

He can’t sue under copyright law for a hand sign. I took a course on copyright law in law school and one requirement to sue for copyright infringement is fixation. Meaning there must be some sort of writing. Therefore, I don’t know how he can claim a copyright infringment in a hand gesture. If he is sueing for trademark infringement then that is something different.

did page run out of money already to resort to this? i’m sure he’s not the originator of the gesture either. the point is that rocafella has clearly incorporated the symbol into its claim, while nobody gives a damn about some old wrestler. so if he tries to take away ‘the roc’ from the roc and hurt careers just because HIS career is over, i don’t know what is to become of him. what an idiot.

This is definately bullshit but Jay isn’t even doing the dynasty sign, he’s actually recreating the ‘Annuit Coeptis’ pyramid from American money. That is why his left eye is showing. On the pyramid, it is also a left eye showing.
I know it began as the dynasty sign, but I’m pretty sure when he does the eye thing it’s meant to be the pyramid.
