The little homey Nas and DJ Premier grace the cover of this months’s Scratch magazine.  2 questions for Milkshake:

  1. How long does it take to sign new deal?
  2. Where is my goddam ‘We Major’ remix with Hov?

Game wants to be a Baller

Thursday, November 17th, 2005

It’s been reported that The Game will be starting for the ABA’s Inglewood Cobras as well as purchasing a stake in the team. Apparently he did his numbers back when he was at Compton High with teammate and childhood friend Baron Davis

From AHH:

"I am starting at either the No. 2 or the No. 3 position – not because I’m ‘The Game’ – but because I’ve earned the right," Game exclaimed. "I grew up playing basketball. I’m only 25 and I’m still in professional shape. I’ve been in intense practices with the Cobras for about a month now and the team is looking forward to winning every game and selling out The Forum with the help of myself and a bunch of talented young guys eager to elevate their own basketball careers."

I can imagine how this career is gonna play out: Game flagrant fouls an opposing player. He apologizes, then fouls him again. He tattoos Michael Jordans number on his chest. He enters into a public fued with the teams GM and is kicked off the team. Lebron James comes forward and claims he showed Game his top 3 moves. Game shows up at the radio station where Lebron is being interviewed, and one of his boys ends up shot in the leg. He proceeds to makes 45 minute diss song about the Cobras and Lebron. The following week he apologizes to everyone he dissed, then during a NBA halftime show, beats down a guy in a Lebron James outfit.  Claiming he has turned over a new leaf, he tattoos a teddy bear on his forehead.

D-Block on Hot97

D Block was just up at Hot 97 talking to Angie Martinez about their situation and airing out some bad blood between them and Diddy. The whole argument revolves around the 50% of The LOX publishing rights that Puff still owns from their Bad Boy days. Diddy must have been listening, because he called in and lets just say some voices were raised and tempers lost.

Here’s my take on this whole situation. Were the LOX stupid for signing the contract 10 years ago? Of course. That was one of the worst deals that has ever gone down in the history of entertainment. This dude still gets paid to this day from anything they do that does well and that’s how it will be until they get out of the contract. Forever.

On the other hand, Puff is a shady motherfucker and I don’t think anybody can deny it. It comes out during the interview that he still owns Big’s publishing. Styles goes down the long list of artists that have had problems at Bad Boy: 112, Faith, Lil Kim, Junior Mafia, Mase, Black Rob. Shit, Big is dead. One dude did leave Bad Boy with all his publishing though: Shyne. But look where he ended up anyway. Messing with Puff.

So yeah bad decisons were made, but damn Diddy, why not spread some of the love? I mean how much are you earning off the Money, Power, Respect album in ’05? Let Jason, David, and Sean eat too doggie!

  • New Cam video for ‘Love My Life’  from the Killa Season soundtrack.
  • NYCNN – All New York Hip Hop, All the time.
  • Very interesting interview with U-God over at HipHopGame.

HipHopGame: Why do you feel that you’re the black sheep of the Wu?
U-God: Because I’m the light-skinned dude in the group.

He also has some choice words for the RZA.

  • The Game is a very conflicted young man. With G-Unot carved into his head, he wishes 50 good luck.

More New Biggie ft. Nas, 2Pac, Mary J.

Here’s another joint from the Biggie Duets album. This one is also kinda hot and features Nas, 2Pac, and Mary J. Blige. I’ve heard the Biggie verse, but I couldn’t tell you where. The Nas verse is crazy and ‘Pac sounds like he’s about 17. Mary J. is perfect as usual.

G-Unit Books?

Tuesday, November 15th, 2005

g-unitxxl.jpg

It was announced today that 50 is starting a publishing company called G-Unit Books that will will release novellas and graphic novels:

From AHH:

The new line of books will feature Tony Yayo, Young Buck, Lloyd Banks and Olivia as characters in the series, which will be published in 2007.

"These tales will tell the truth about The Life; the sex, guns and cash; the brutal highs and short lives of the players on the streets," Pocket/MTV Books said in a press release."These tales will tell the truth about The Life; the sex, guns and cash; the brutal highs and short lives of the players on the streets," Pocket/MTV Books said in a press release.

Let’s be real here, when they say graphic novel, what they actually mean is comic book. So basically 50 plans on marketing and selling stories about "sex, guns and cash" to children and teenagers. Damn Fitty, I know you’re a poverty pimp and all, and your in the business of profitting from ghetto misery, but this seems like a new low even for you.

On another note, that’s next month’s issue of XXL with G-Unit on the cover up there. I was beginning to think something was wrong, because they hadn’t had an Interscope artist on the cover in like 3 whole months. Click for a closer look and please tell me what is wrong with Prodigy’s grill piece.

Ice-T & Jay-Z being sued

Tuesday, November 15th, 2005

brother_marquis.jpg

Now I knew that Jay had stolen the chorus for 99 Problems from Ice-T, (Nas groupies always bring it up when claiming Jay is a biter), but I don’t actually know the original song, and I sure didn’t know that dude from 2 Live Crew was on it. Well he was, and now he’s suing Ice and Jay for unpaid royalties he feels he’s owed. Brother Marquis, pictured above with ‘friend’, joined 2 Live Crew even before Uncle Luke and shortly after the crew moved to Florida from Cali. I can’t really be mad at partner for going after what he thinks he deserves, plus it must be hard watching Ice on Law and Order every week and Jay rubbing up on Bey, while you’re at home with your fat, gay, whiteboy lover.

(Of course I’m kidding about the gay lover part, that’s just some dude who took a picture with him. I would normally have let the joke ride, but this guy obviously likes to sue people, and I ain’t got it.)

50 Loses to Animated Chicken

 cl_raph.jpg

Now, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t loving the fact that 50′s movie completely flopped this weekend, so I won’t say it. But I’m loving it.  The funny thing is I was talking to somebody, I forget who, just last week about the possibility of it not doing well and how great that would be. We both pretty much agreed that it would be pretty much impossible for that to happen…and then the numbers came in:

1 Chicken Little            $80,774,000     3658
2 Zathura                     $14,000,000     3223
3 Derailed                    $12,800,000     2441
4 Get Rich or Die Tryin’ $18,203,000     1652

Now in all fairness it should be noted that those numbers after the gross are the number of theaters each movie was showing in, and as you can see GRODT was shown in far fewer theaters than the other 3.

That said, GRODT had one of the biggest marketing pushes I’ve ever seen for a Hip Hop film, and it was released two days earlier than the other movies. In the past few weeks it’s been pretty hard to turn on the TV and not see 50 promoting one way or another.  This guy has books, soundtracks, re-released albums, and even video games all meant to sell you his fake gangster image and ultimately make you come out your pockets.  It looks to me like the public has had enough of what he’s selling.

The NY Post needs to get a clue

Somebody at the NY Post needs to get a clue.  Check this shit out:

FITTY SHOOTER TIED TO RIVALS

November 14, 2005 –  The mystery man who pumped nine bullets into 50 Cent was later hired as a bodyguard for the rapper’s arch rivals — Murder Inc. founders Irv and Chris "Gotti" Lorenzo, federal prosecutors say.

Standing next to the shooter that day in June 2000 was Queens drug kingpin Kenneth "Supreme" McGriff, who helped fund the record label with dirty cash, prosecutors said.

McGriff was in a Murder Inc. office later that day, taunting the shooter for not finishing the job, prosecutors said. The suspected gunman, whose identity has not been revealed, was later assigned to protect Ja Rule, a star for the label, now called The Inc.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office wants the judge presiding over the Murder Inc. money-laundering case, which begins tomorrow in Brooklyn federal court, to allow them to bring up all of the supposed shady connections between McGriff, the Lorenzo brothers and 50 Cent.

They’ve got to be kidding me. I guess this may be news to the conservative, Rethuglican demographic that The Post caters to, but not to the 8 million or so people who’ve heard 50′s first album.  I can’t help but laughing reading this shit, especially this: "The suspected gunman, whose identity has not been revealed".

Get a grip, everybody knows it was Darryl ‘Hommo’ Baum, notorious Brooklyn stick up man and associate of the real 50 Cent and Mike Tyson. You would think that The Post would know this since they reported that Baum was the shooter a month ago on the same day that SOHH and AHH ran similar stories!  That’s that good NY tabloid journalism for you.
