And although I was not directly involved with the production of this particular story, I can assure you that this was by no means some sort of "marketing scheme" that was pushed by Eminem's handlers. From what I know, the article came together over several weeks of reporting and required an intensive effort by our music writer, Brian McCollum. I get the impression McCollum encountered resistance from many of the Shady higher-ups. In other words, it's highly unlikely that this is some kind of slick marketing move. The Free Press got the story because the paper has been covering Eminem before anybody else ever heard of the guy, and was able to use the hometown connections to turn up information that the bigwigs didn't want out there. I happen to work at the Free Press.
