Styles P & Adjua Discuss their Daughter’s Suicide

Wednesday, August 16th, 2017

Styles P and his wife Adjua Styles paid a visit to the Breakfast Club this morning for an emotional and enlightening conversation about the loss of their daughter to suicide in 2015. The couple discusses in great detail and with unflinching honesty the factors that they believe lead to Tai’s suicide, the scourges of mental illness and depression, the stigma that still surrounds members of the LGBT community and what they see as their own personal failings as parents to recognize and address their child’s pain.

They also speak at length about the need for absentee fathers in communities of color to do better with regard to their presence in the lives of their children, and how we all need to better communicate with our loved ones. As a father, this was extremely hard to watch at times, but these are hard lessons and if what Styles and Adjua went through is at all preventable then we all have a responsibility to listen and learn.
