Currensy Announces the Jetlanta EP

Wednesday, January 11th, 2017

After Curren$y dropped his 12th project of 2016 less than 2 weeks ago, he strongly implied that he would be taking a small hiatus to let all of that work he put in last year sink in. Well, that was the shortest hiatus ever because he’s already got a new project dropping this coming Friday. Spitta took to Instagram last night to announce the Jetlanta EP, which he recently recorded over the course of a few days in Atlanta with producers Don Cannon and Purps. Now, he insists this is actually a collaborative project as it also features Jet Life artists T.Y. and CornerBoy P, but I think he’s just making excuses for not being able to stop like ’96 Puffy. You can also be on the lookout for the upcoming Fetti project that he’s got in the works with Freddie Gibbs, although there is no set release date for that one yet.

Watch Spitta’s announcement below.

Pete Rock Was In The Studio with Kanye

Thursday, December 8th, 2016

After a couple of weeks of making headlines for all of the wrong reasons, Kanye West appears to be back to work. Recently on his Instagram account, Pete Rock posted a trio of videos, one of which included the caption, “Playing 45s in da lab with Kanye West”. The three videos don’t actually show Kanye, but eagle-eyed posters over at the KTT forums noticed that a list written in a notebook sitting on the boards appeared to show a video game-themed tracklist of some sort.

Some have speculated that the list could be a working tracklist for Kanye’s Turbo Grafx 16 album, the one he teased following the release of The Life of Pablo earlier this year. It could also potentially be a list of games that he intends to sample for that or some other project. In any event, it looks like Ye is looking to chase his demons away with good old hard work. Continue below to watch the videos and check out the tracklist. Be sure to give the instrumental that is playing in the third clip a listen as well.

Beyonce, Drake, Rihanna & Kanye Lead the 2016 Grammy Nominations

Tuesday, December 6th, 2016

This morning The Recording Academy released the nominations for the 2016 Grammy Awards and Beyonce leads the field with 9 nominations while the other three find themselves in three-way tie for second with 8 each. You can peruse the full list of noms here, but let’s take a look at some of the more notable nods and those most relevant to Rap fans. First of all, although Kanye, Drake and Rihanna are right on her heals, Bey sets herself apart with consistent nods across such important categories as Record of The Year, Song of the Year and Album of The Year. Drake joins her in the Album of the Year category for Views and he also pops up in Record of The Year, although it’s for his guest appearance on Rihanna’s “Work” rather that one of his own songs. It should come as no surprise that Chance The Rapper did really well in the Rap categories, landing noms in Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, Best Rap/Sung Collaboration and Best Rap Album for Coloring Book.

J. Cole Has A New Album Dropping Next Week

Thursday, December 1st, 2016

J. Cole dropped 2014 Forest Hills Drive back in 2014 and has pretty much skated off that album since. Sure, it went platinum, but what most people don’t realize is that he actually had guest features on every track, so does it really count? Maybe Jermaine will have better luck with 4 Your Eyez Only, a new project which surfaced on iTunes this morning for pre-order with a release date of next Friday, December 9th.

UPDATE: Cole drops a 40-minute documentary called Eyez that docuuments the creation of the album over the last several months. Watch below with a TIDAL subscription.

Snoop Talks Kaepernick & Castro on UNDISPUTED

Wednesday, November 30th, 2016

Snoop Dogg was the guest on today’s episode of UNDISPUTED with Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe and Colin Kaepernick’s ongoing National Anthem protest and his recent praise of late Cuban dictator Fidel Castro came up as topics. Snoop says he feels like Kaepernick needs to make a choice about whether he wants to be a football player or a revolutionary, but that kinda sounds like a cop-out to me.

Kanye Hospitalized “For His Own Safety”

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2016

The other day, after I learned of Kanye’s bizarre Trump endorsement, I joked that he had finally lost his mind. Now that joke seems disturbingly prescient as several media outlets are reporting that Kanye was hospitalized in Los Angeles “for his own health and safety”. According to NBC 4 in LA, police responded to a medical welfare call at the home of trainer Harley Pasternak at around 1:20 on Monday afternoon where Kanye was reportedly being examined for exhaustion.

It’s unclear what exactly happened next, but a decision was made to bring Kanye in for psychiatric evaluation after he was said to be “acting erratically”, and he was handcuffed and taken to UCLA Medical Center.

This incident comes after a couple days of surprising, but not necessarily un-Kanye behavior including the Trump rant in San Jose over the weekend. The following night at a show in Sacramento, Ye went off on Beyonce and Jay Z and criticized Hillary Clinton and Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook before abruptly walking off stage. Shortly thereafter, Ye canceled his Los Angeles show and eventually, the remaining 21 dates of the Saint Pablo tour were also postponed.

UPDATE: TMZ has more details. The police were called by Kanye’s personal physician, Dr. Michael Farzam, who warned them that he was suffering from “temporary psychosis due to sleep deprivation and dehydration” and had assaulted a staff member at Pasternak’s gym. There seems to be some confusion over whether or not the Doctor placed Kanye on a 5150 psychiatric hold, which would also explain the handcuffs.

Kanye Loses Mind, Says He Would’ve Voted Trump

Friday, November 18th, 2016

Last night at his Saint Pablo show in San Jose, Kanye stunned the crowd when he announced that he did not vote in the 2016 presidential election, but if he had, he would’ve voted for Trump. He goes on to let more garbage spill from his mouth by calling Ben Carson a “genius”, telling Black people that shouldn’t “focus on racism” so much and rapping “I hope they build the wall”.

So yeah, Kanye has finally gone off the deep end, and I have zero patience for this kind of rationalization of a man celebrated by white nationalists right now. A man who, without having even taken office yet, is already causing irreparable harm and pain to people of color on a daily basis.

Watch and listen to Kanye’s bullshit below.
