Kendrick Lamar’s New Album is Called DAMN, Here’s the Tracklist

Tuesday, April 11th, 2017

As it turns out, Kendrick Lamar’s new project is not called ALBUM, that title was just a placeholder for the LP’s iTunes pre-order page, as I suspected it might be. Going off a tweet from K.Dot this morning, the tape is called DAMN, will be 14-tracks deep and features appearances from Rihanna and U2. Presumably, that is the final album artwork up top.

Check out the full tracklist below, and look for the album to arrive this Friday.

Joey Badass Goes Sneaker Shopping With Complex

Monday, April 3rd, 2017

Joey Badass is joined by Joe La Puma at Alumni in Brooklyn for a new installment of Sneaker Shopping. Badmon breaks down his life-long love of Jordans and talks about the Pippen Uptempos which also hold a special place in his heart.

When asked about people boycotting certain brands such as Under Armour over pro-Trump statements, he says that he tries to stay away from brands that endorse political positions that he opposes.

That’s a pretty interesting statement considering the fact that he’s rocking a pair of Yeezy’s as he makes it, and as we know, Kanye is a proud Trump supporter. Yeah I know, Kanye deleted his pro-Trump tweets or whatever, but that means absolutely nothing to me until he actually opens his mouth and repents.

Joey’s new album is out this Friday.

Drake to Appear in Season 3 of Top Boy

Monday, April 3rd, 2017

It was reported last year that Drake had acquired the rights to the popular but prematurely canceled UK street Drama Top Boy, and now series star Ashley Walters has confirmed that the rapper will make a guest appearance when the highly anticipated third season arrives on Netflix in 2018.

Walters tells The Mirror that he recently met with Drizzy in London and they’re trying to figure out his roll as they plan out the next season. We already know Drake has some acting chops, and a penchant for accents, but North Americans are notoriously bad at pulling off British accents, so let’s hope he’ll be playing an American (or Canadian). UK rapper Kano played a prominent (and amazing) role in the first two seasons, and Skepta is reportedly on board for the third as well.

You can catch up on the first two seasons of Top Boy on Hulu right now bruv.

Jay Z to Produce Trayvon Martin Film & Documentary Series

Friday, March 24th, 2017

A new report from Variety reveals that Jay Z, in conjunction his new partners at The Weinstein Company, is planning both a narrative film and a separate documentary television series about the life and death of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin. Jay recently acquired the rights to two books about Martin’s 2012 murder by George Zimmerman: Rest in Power: The Enduring Life of Trayvon Martin, written by Trayvon’s parents Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, and Suspicion Nation: The Inside Story of the Trayvon Martin Injustice and Why We Continue to Repeat It by NBC correspondent Lisa Bloom, which will form the basis for the film and the series. While both projects appear to still be in the preliminary stages, with deals being negotiated as recently as last month’s Oscars weekend, the TV series will apparently be a 6-episode limited run similar to the Kalief Browder series that Jay and the Weinsteins produced and which is currently airing on the Spike network.

Kendrick Lamar Probably Just Teased His Next Album

Thursday, March 23rd, 2017

At the beginning of this month, Kendrick Lamar did an interview with the New York Times Style Magazine about creativity and inspiration during which he spoke very generally about his next project. He didn’t say much, but he did acknowledge that he was working on new music and it was enough to get fans’ minds working as to what he may be up to and the potential timeline.

That new project may be closer than any of us assumed if Kendrick’s activity on Instagram is any indication. At some point last night, he deleted all of his previous posts and replaced them with a single image of the Roman numeral for ‘4.’ As you know, K.Dot’s next LP would be his fourth full-length if we don’t count last year’s untitled unmastered compilation. Let the speculation begin.

Kenrick Lamar Talks Next Album with The NYT Style Magazine

Wednesday, March 1st, 2017

Kenrick Lamar is one of three artists (along with Tom Waits and Beck) profiled for a new package in the New York Times Style Magazine and during his brief interview with writer Wyatt Mason, the notoriously cryptic MC offered a small hint at his headspace as he prepares his new album. Speaking of his connection with fans and preoccupied with thoughts of his family, he offered up the following:

“Been thinking about my little brothers. One little brother, he bigger than me, he’s 22. Another brother, he just turned 11. Family.” Lamar paused, picked it up again. “I think now, how wayward things have gone within the past few months, my focus is ultimately going back to my community and the other communities around the world where they’re doing the groundwork. ‘To Pimp a Butterfly’ was addressing the problem. I’m in a space now where I’m not addressing the problem anymore.”

He goes on to say that the new project will be spiritual and “urgent”. And that’s pretty much all we’re getting out of K.Dot, for now. Continue below to watch a small video clip that accompanies the piece (read in full here) in which Kendrick talks about music as self-expression, his love of artists who embrace creativity and why living life is an important part of making art.

Khaled has got something up his sleeve. Today he posted a bunch of images and video clips from the set of a video shoot for a TOP SECRET new anthem, and Migos, Chance The Rapper and Justin Bieber were all in attendance. Whatever it is, it’s clearly going to be major and is presumably from his new album Grateful. He already went big on his first release from the project, “Shining”, featuring Jay Z and Beyonce, and he doesn’t appear to be taking any prisoners with this album. UPDATE: Lil Wayne was there too.

This morning, the Songwriters Hall of Fame announced their list of 2017 inductees and your boy Shawn Corey Carter will become the first rapper to ever be bestowed with the honor. Jay joins a seriously legendary class of writers that includes Motown founder Berry Gordy, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Max Martin and Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. Nile Rogers announced the list of inductees on CBS This Morning, saying about Jay, “It’s massive. He has changed the way that we listen to music. He’s changed the way that we have fun.” Not bad for a guy who doesn’t write.

The ceremony takes place on June 5th in New York City. In other Hov news, he is reportedly launching a new venture capital firm with longtime friend and business partner, Roc Nation exec Jay Brown.
